Chapter 3
AUTHOR'S NOTE: First off, it's been a hard year so far after my house burned down, then having heart surgery and being treated for prostate cancer. If I did not love both Luke and Gerry so much I would have told Tickie to yank the story down, but instead I decided to continue just to fulfill a promise to my late brother. The next few chapters are going to be short ones as I am still recovering. Now this chapter and the next couple probably should have been at the beginning, but hey, I'm just transcribing (with some minor editing) what my brother wrote in his journals. Edward.
****** From Luke's Journals ******
I just hope that nobody but Edward reads these next couple of pages because I know Dad will kill me if he reads them. Have you ever had the gut feeling that something was totally out of place? Well, I have some questions and the answers just do not seem correct.
1) Why did Mother marry Dad?
2) Dad stated that Mom died from giving birth to a dead baby and yet the baby is never mentioned; why is that?
3) Is Edward right when he told me that some Indians are what they call "Horse Whisperers"?
4) Why was the house left to me and not to Edward? ( He hates to be called Eddie.)
Now from what I was told by Eddie, my stepfather was both a truck driver and great con artist. Supposedly he met my grandfather and asked to marry Mom after stating that he owned a large trucking company and was a partner in an up-and-coming computer company. Well, after talking to Edward, the truth is that Dad worked for his ex-brother-in-law to pay off his gambling debts, and the only thing he knows about computers is that he can get porn sites and email off of them.
Edward told me that our baby sister was adopted by some friends of Dad's right after Mom gave birth and then passed away. I do not know why Dad never told me her name, but I checked out the local birth notices for January 11th and saw the following: "Angel of White Wings gave birth today to a 7 lb. 10 oz. baby girl named Melanee", and under it was stated that right after giving birth, Angel of White Wings passed away from a massive heart attack. Ok, I know Melanee's name now, but where she is I have no idea.
On our ranch we had some quarter horses, and my horse was called 'Big Brown'. One day in the barn, I could have sworn I heard him ask for extra oats to eat. Edward said, "Ask Gramps if you are what they refer to as a 'Horse Whisperer'," since I had told him what both my horse, as well his 'Beauty' had asked in their nicking.
Edward claims that the house was left to me because Dad said he was not leaving any faggot something as expensive as the house. While I was at Crazy Horse, and Edward was at U of W, Dad left town leaving my big brother, Edward, as my legal guardian.
To be continued...
Added Note from the author:
I am not on a timetable to get the chapters out and also I am attaching pictures of Luke, Gerry and the house. See chapter selection page for the pictures. The Indian Brave Pictures where taken by a friend, and are of the real people in this story, but the names are changed to protect the families that remain.
