A Lot of Love
On Friday morning, at 6:40 the alarm went off. I woke Jeff and we took a shower and got dressed. Jeff went downstairs and brought me my coffee. He changed the sheets.
We went downstairs and Beau was talking to Andrea and Ted, “Hi Dad, did you wake Tommy and Jason?”
“They’re on their way.” Jeff said.
The guys arrived and everyone sat down and Beau served everyone a potato casserole with chicken fried steak and scrambled eggs. Andy said, “We’re all going to get fat.”
Beau said, “You probably won’t eat again until dinner and I figured you needed something to get you through the day. Jeff, you and Tommy do the dishes while Jason and I change the linens in the guest room and get it ready for Jenny. Doctor A. and Doctor T., dinner is at 6:00 and that is not negotiable. Come on Jason.”
Jason came out with the used sheets and put them in the washing machine and started it. Beau came out with a towel wrapped around him. “Okay the room is ready for Tommy’s date.”
Beau disappeared and came back dressed for the day. Just as we were getting ready to leave, Colin called and said, “Jack today is Davey’s birthday. All he wants is to go for pizza and have a sleep over. He doesn’t want any gifts. Can Jason come?”
“Colin, let me put Jason on. It’s his decision.” I said as I handed the phone to Jason.
Jason took the phone and finally said, “Mr. Montgomery, I am so glad you asked. Now I don’t have to be tortured by Beau and his kissy, kissy friends. I’ll be there.” He said as he hung up.
Before anyone could say anything, the phone rang again. Jeff answered. “Hi Coach, Beau is right here. … Beau, Coach Winston would like to talk to you.”
“Hey Coach, what’s up?” Beau asked. “You mean that umpire was the opposing pitcher’s grandfather? … Mr. Spicer said that he thought Mr. Sockrider should be suspended forever and that the opposing team should forfeit all of the game that the two were involved in.”
Beau asked, “Coach, can you give me Mr. Dean’s number? I’d like to put my two cents in before he destroys peoples’ lives.”
Beau made another call and when he hung up he asked, “Why are so many people hell bent on winning? Why can’t they let sports events be fun?”
Jason said, “Beau, I won’t be here for dinner. Tommy would you stop by Target and get a $50.00 gift card and an appropriate birthday card since Spencer wants to mow some lawns today?”
“Jason, you’re beginning to sound like Beau. I’ll do what your highness wants.” Tommy laughed.
Jason left and came back and said, “Here is $50.00 for the gift card and $5.00 more for the birthday card.”
Davey came in and everyone left for the day.
Spencer did indeed have plans for the guys. They divided into three teams and the teams each mowed two lawns. When I stopped to pick the guys up, Beau was lamenting, “I hope the guys saw my directions. Dad, could you order some pizza and wings for about 9:30?”
When we got home everything was progressing on schedule. Dale and Les were already there helping Jeff and Tommy. Les said, “Beau, I think you forgot to dot this i.”
“That’s not possible.” Beau said. “You must need glasses. Let me see.”
The guests started to arrive and Beau sent the adults to the living room. He had Jeff playing host. When Jared and Jenny arrived, Beau confiscated them. At precisely six o’clock the guys escorted the ladies to the dining room. Beau and Jared served the fruit compotes for the appetizer.
They then brought the salad and bread and then served everyone a huge piece of lasagna. The conversation was lively and Beau and Jared were having a great time. Beau had skillfully made sure all of the right groups were together.
As everyone finished, Beau got up and said, “Doctor Icky and Father W., you have cleanup detail. Jared and I have to get dressed for our party and high school students have to get ready for the dance. Jeff honey, you have to be host for the tonight. Does anyone have any questions?”
“Beau honey, is it okay if I breathe?” Aunt Cora taunted.
“Only if you promise not to take all of the oxygen.” Beau laughed as he hugged her.
“Hey Boy, what are you doing talking to my Grandmother like that?” Drew challenged.
“She can’t be your Grandma. She's too nice to have someone like you in her family.” Beau said as he dashed from the room.
Everyone was laughing and Jared went to join Beau.
I took the guests to the living room and the highschoolers left. Jeff, Les, and Dale were doing the dishes and cleanup.
Beau and Jared came down and fixed some Chex Mix and healthy foods and took it downstairs. Jeff went to get the television so everyone could watch the show. There was an announcement that the show had been delayed so that the people on the west coast could see it.
The young people started to arrive and Beau was like a baby trying to take his first steps. He was so proper and introduced everyone. Finally they had all arrived and the twelve teenagers disappeared downstairs. Mrs. Tillison asked, “Jack, aren’t you going to check on them?”
“No ma’am. If they need something they’ll ask. I was asked to have pizza and wings delivered at 9:30. With twelve people downstairs, I can’t imagine anything too bad happening.”
At 8:00 the show started it was even better the second time. They edited out the pauses. They had retained everything that Beau, Chip and Spence had said. At 9:30 the doorbell rang. Jeff answered the door and Beau was there with Rosa. Hey, how much do I owe you? … Here’s the money and the tip. Thanks for being on time. We are starved.” Beau said as he and Rosa took the food.
The young man said, “I think I was just struck by lightning. Call me again if you need anything. I have never made $10.00 so easy in my life.”
At eleven o’clock, the young people came up and their rides started to arrive. Beau thanked them for coming. When Juan picked Rosa up, she hugged Beau and thanked him for inviting her. Denny was the last to leave, “Doctor Wilson, I can’t believe that no one came down to check on us. I guess you realize that we can police ourselves probably better than without any adult interference. Thanks for trusting us, Sir.”
Beau and Jared disappeared and cleaned up the den and took all of the trash out. Beau came in and sat down and leaned against me. “Thanks for trusting us Dad.” He reached up and gave me a hug and a kiss.
He moved to Jeff and did the same thing. He went and plopped down between Les and Dale. “Hey Icky and Daddy Baby Maker, we will probably need your help tomorrow, so don’t make any plans. Jeff, you have to take care of dinner. Jared, give everyone a hug and kiss. We need to go to bed.”
Jared got a funny look but came to me and very tentatively kissed me. I pulled him close and kissed him on the lips and Jared started to cry. Beau grabbed him. “Jare, what's wrong?”
Jared sighed, “I felt love when your Dad held me and wasn’t having bad feelings like when I do when my Father touches me.”
“If you think Dad’s good, you need to try Jeff, Doctor Icky and Father Baby Maker.” Beau advised him.
Jared hugged and kissed them
and said, “I declare a four way tie. I’ll take them all.”
“Forget it kid, you can’t afford them. I already own them all. Dad, where’s Tommy and Jenny?” Beau asked.
“We’re in Bermuda sunning on the beach creep. What’s it to you?” Tommy yelled from the kitchen.
“Dad, make sure their chastity belts are locked.” Beau said.
Jared said, “Jen, get Doctor Wilson and the rest to give you a kiss and a hug. It isn’t creepy, like when Dad touches us and he never gives us a kiss.”
The two guys disappeared up the stairs. Jenny sat down beside me and said, “Doctor Wilson, what is Jared babbling about?”
“Jenny, I have no idea.” I put my arm around her and pulled her close and gave her a kiss on the cheek.
Jenny just looked at me and started to cry. “Doctor Wilson, I wish you were our Dad. That felt genuine and I didn’t feel like you were trying to undress me.”
Tommy said, “Hey Jen, let’s play musical chairs. I’ll go to Dad and you move to Jeff and we’ll see which of these four is the best hugger and kisser.”
Jenny and Tommy hugged and kissed all of us and Jenny started to cry really hard. “Is everyone in Fremont this full of love?”
Tommy put his arm around her and said, “Nah, only the ones that have been trained and captured by Jeff and Beau.”
Jenny went to her room and the rest of us departed. We had to be ready for the next happening.
Jeff lay in bed next to me and said, “Dad, there is a lot of love in this house even though Jason is missing.”
To be continued...
Editor's Notes:
This chapter was very interesting and it brings to mind some facts that might be important later. There sure is a lot of love in Fremont, isn't there? This story is one of my all time favorites, and let me tell you I have read and enjoyed a lot of stories. There is a lot more happening in Fremont and elsewhere.
I can hardly wait.
