Chapter 27

We’re Cheaper

Tuesday morning after running, we went to our appointed places.  Les and Dale picked up Mrs. T. and she showed them three more houses.  They really liked a four bedroom house near the church.  Les decided to buy it and rent a room to Dale.

The Lords lined their shelves and after lunch the three doctors joined me at the office and it was apparent that we needed to get the portables in place immediately, since I had only had three examination rooms so only three of us could work at one time.  Lash had already started to look for people to join the staff, and we would be interviewing them on Thursday.

After dinner and the dishes had been cleaned, Les and Dale took us to see their house.  Jeff and Beau were having a field day making plans for the house.  Finally I said, “Guys, these are two grown gentlemen.  They are capable of making their own decisions.”

“They’re fine, Jack.  They have a better sense of what needs to be done than we do.”  Les said. “Neither of us has ever been involved in making decisions like this.  Mrs. Tillison will pay to have the carpet changed and to have the appliances updated.  We are going to take care of the painting.  We’ll hire Beau and his friends to do the cleaning so we can perve on their bodies again.”

Beau said, “I forgot to tell you, we are on strike.  After this weekend the guys may never talk to me again, after they see how many windows we are going to be cleaning.”

Jeff said, “You already know what the Lord’s house looks like and how neat it turned out.  Dad, you take Beau and the guys to see Chip’s and the Edmond’s houses.  I’ve got to go home and make some calls about tomorrow.  The Lords took Jeff home

Beau and I took Les and Dale to see the Weaver’s and Edmond’s houses.   We went to the Weaver’s house first and Jill was showing us around.  Dale said, “Jill, you and Reg sure do have some beautiful furniture and accessories.”

Jill laughed and said, “Yes we do, thanks to Beau.”

Les said, “Jill, you sure did a wonderful job decorating the house.”

“Believe me, there was so much to choose from and we had a lot of help from Jeff, Beau and Anita.”

“Thanks for showing us around.” said Les.  “Where is Chip?”

“He and Reg went to visit Reg’s Father, to help make his day since he is still limited in what he can do.”  Jill said as we left.

At the Edmonds house, the twins showed the guys around.  They told them that cousin Adam had given them the furniture.  “Beau got money for the furniture that we couldn’t use and now we have a lot of money in our college funds.” said Larry.

Lenny added, “Yep, just like he did for Chip's college fund.”

“Thanks guys for showing us around.  The house is wonderful” said Dale.  They shook hands with the Edmonds and Les said, “You sure have a lovely home.”

Mrs. Edmonds said, “Thank you, I’m sure the guys told you who is responsible.  If it weren’t for Jeff, Beau and Adam, we would probably still be living in Nebraska City.”

We bid everyone farewell. As we were driving home, Les said, “The three houses look so good and they are all very different.  I guess we have some big decisions to make.”

Beau turned to him and said, “Remember you are the ones who are going to be living there, so make it the way you want it, since you have that opportunity and the time to do it before you start your jobs.  So how are you going to work the finances?”

”Beau, that’s none of our business.”  I scolded.

“Jack actually it is a very good question.  I’m going to buy the house, since I have enough money to make a sizeable down payment.  Beau’s implication that people would talk if we bought it together is something we have to consider.  This way there are probably some people who will look funny at us, but we will just have to be careful of where and how much we are seen together in public.  Besides, we have to see how or if anything develops between us.  We may not even be compatible.”  Les answered

“Father W. how do you feel about what’s happening?”  Beau asked.

“Beau, quite frankly, I am scared to death.  First, I will be starting a new job on Monday, and am perhaps about to become involved in a gay relationship for the first time in my life.  I may need your other Dad’s professional help.”

Beau laughed, “Just stick with Jeff and me. We’re cheaper.”

We walked into the house laughing.  “What’s so funny?” Jeff asked.

Les said, “Beau just said that you were cheaper.”

“Cheaper than what?” Jeff looked skeptical.

“Cheaper than a sack of potatoes.” Beau quipped.  “What are we wearing tomorrow and how are we getting to the college?”

“Not to worry.  The transportation is all arranged.  Mrs. Johnson and Uncle Dan will be picking you guys up.  All you have to do is be ready by 12:30.”

Beau said, “You still haven’t told me what you want us to wear.”

Tommy was standing on the stairs listening, “Beau, you had better wear something more than your bikini briefs, because the audience would laugh.  Besides I borrowed your last clean pair, so I can accentuate my best features. What are we wearing Jeff?”

“Just wear you loafers, khaki slacks, and a nice long sleeve shirt.  We’re not having a fashion show; we’re having a display of talent.  Here’s a copy of the program so you can be ready.” Jeff said, as he handed Beau and Tommy a program.

Beau looked at the program and yelled, “Jeff, I don’t even know this song.  How can I sing it?”

“We’re going to practice now.  Come on Tommy, we’ll practice your song too.”  Jeff said, as he went into the piano room.

The guys followed him.  The rest of us were sitting in the living room listening to them.  Jason came in and was sitting beside me leaning against me.  Suddenly he went to the piano room door and called in.  “Jeff, why is Beau singing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star?”

Beau surprised Jason and pretended he was sitting on him.  “I have to sing it since you couldn’t remember the words.”  He helped Jason up and said, “You get your bottom in here, since you are being mean to me.  You’re going to sing a song with Tommy and me.”

“Jeffrey honey, the three of us are going to sing Que Sera Sera.  Is that okay with you?”  Beau asked.

“It’s not in the program.” Jeff said.

“So, programs are made to be broken.  We’ll do it right after the class band performs.  It will make everyone forget how bad they were.”

The guys practiced the song and they really sounded good.  The four guys came out laughing.

“Dad, I have a sore throat.  I think I have to have my tonsils removed.” claimed Beau.  “Jeff honey, I won’t be there tomorrow.  I’ll be in the hospital having my last rites from Daddy Baby Maker after the Headless Horseman Doctor tries to remove my tonsils with his toes.”

Les caught Beau by surprise and sat on him.” I’ll take them out right here in the living room by yanking them out.  That way we’ll save your Dads a ton of money when you bleed to death.”

“You must be a vampire like Lash.  All you think about is blood.” Beau laughed as he surprised Les and flipped him over and was sitting on him. “You had better be nice, or I’ll take your slacks and boxers off.  Poor Doctor Andy would probably faint when she saw your miniature thing.”

Beau climbed off Les and helped him and hugged him, “Dad, he started it.  I think I had better go to bed before I get whipped.”

Jason and Beau went up the stairs with Tommy.

Jeff and I followed shortly.  I didn’t hear anyone come to bed.  I think Jeff and I were as exhausted as our guys.
