Chapter 14

Scott met Noel at the gate. He grabbed one of the carry-on bags as they headed for the exit. The convertible was parked in front of the terminal building. They loaded the bags in the trunk and took off. Noel took Scott's hand. "Hi, beautiful, you look more radiant every time I see you. Are you taking something I should know about?"

"Yes, it's a new wonder drug called Noel. It's made a new man of me."

"I love that doctor talk," Noel said.

Noel told him about his trip. He told Scott that he was concerned about their security as well as the children's, and he was planning to consult with RW Nelson about instituting a security program that could protect them at all times. "I don't want anything to happen to you or the children."

"Look, baby, whatever you want to do is fine with me. I promise to be home early every night and even hire someone to drive me into town every day,” Scott told him.

Noel continued, "Would you mind taking on the task of interviewing and hiring our staff? You can deal with people much better than I can. Doctors intimidate most people anyway, and you're more qualified to check out the child handlers. We certainly need the children to be supervised by a competent staff. Whatever you do, don't let your friends or colleagues know you're looking for people."

"Your suspicious mind is always working, Tiger. Did they teach you to think that way in law school?" Scott asked. "That's not a criticism; it's just that I would probably have asked my friends. I can see the logic behind that. In other words, what they don't know won't hurt us."

"You've got it, baby. The less people know about our private life, the better off we are."

When Noel walked into the living room he was greeted with a huge bouquet of white roses on the glass coffee table. He opened the attached card and read the note,

"To my beautiful spouse, with all my love, Scott."

Noel walked over to Scott and threw his arms around him. Kissing him tenderly, he said, "I love you. This is the first bouquet of flowers I've ever received in my life; you are my prince charming. I would like to open a bottle of wine for this occasion."

Noel poured the wine and dimmed the lights. They sat on the sofa facing the picture windows, nestled together and sipping their wine. They watched the lights flickering on the East River, forty-five stories below them. Occasionally a boat would pass or a tug with barges in tow. Across the river they could see the headlights of vehicles moving along the streets of Long Island.

"New York City is really dynamic when you see it from this height. I feel so deliriously happy with you," Noel said. "I've never loved anyone in my life the way l love you. I firmly believe that our fate is in God's hands. Neither of us was ready for this marriage until this time in our lives. Leanne's cancer has made me conscious of how fragile life really is. Please promise me that you'll raise my sons if anything ever happens to me. They're great kids and I know you'll give them the love and caring they will need. I only hope that God will give us the time to live our lives together and to see our children become adults."

"You're right about finding each other at this stage in our lives," Scott replied. "I feel we are mature enough to handle the emotional realities of being gay. It's not going to be easy, baby; there are a lot of people out there who hate us. But I'm glad we're living and working in a gay-friendly city. That's why it's so important that our marriage remain strong, to withstand the blows from these divisive people. I love you, and I want to give you and our children the support you and they will need to build a wholesome and lasting relationship. I'm not as eloquent as you in expressing my feelings, Noel, but I want you to know how I feel, and how deeply moved I am that you're entrusting your children to my care. I'm delighted." Scott kissed him passionately.

"Come, my love, let's go to bed," Noel said. "I want to make love to you."

Scott awoke at five. He was reading the paper while drinking his coffee when Noel walked into the kitchen.

"Good morning, beautiful," Scott said. He took Noel in his arms and kissed him. "Why didn't you stay in bed and sleep?"

"You have me so well-trained already that I wake up now if you don't come back to bed," Noel said. "God, it's wonderful to find you here when I wake up.

"I have a lot of work to catch up with today," Noel said. "I must see my banker and sell some stock to be able to invest in Erickson & MacGregor. I forgot to ask you if you had a chance to meet with Bill Bennett about your divorce.

"I'm scheduled to see him tomorrow morning, barring any emergencies. I told my Dad to transfer twenty-million into our joint account. I'll let you make the decision on the best way to handle the Scarborough Manor estate."

"That's fine, dear," Noel said. "Didn't I tell you not to worry about that?"

"Come here and sit on my lap and let me hug you before I head for the hospital. I love you so much, Noel, you know I would give up everything today if you asked me. I can't live without you."

"That's the most unselfish offer you could ever make," Noel said. "Don't think I'm not tempted to accept it, but I love you too much to ask you to do that. You have too much time invested in your profession. You're too young to retire, you would become bored. Now, get going before I change my mind."

Scott grabbed his coat and took the service elevator to the garage. Noel thought to himself, 'We're too young to give up our careers at this point in our lives. Cool heads must prevail'.

"Good morning, Mac, I wanted to ask you to wave your magic wand again," Noel said. "I'm looking for an all-around houseman who can also act as a bodyguard. Someone who is capable of managing a household and organizing everything, someone like Kim. He can have his own private quarters and will have to drive me home if I'm stuck in Manhattan. The penthouse will be his only responsibility, which I plan to use only when necessary. If you can come up with someone, I would be your friend for life."

"Let me see what I can do," Mac said. "I'll check with Christopher, Drew's butler. He may have some ideas. Again, please feel free to call me any time. Drew asked me to help you in any way I can."

"If Drew gives you a hard time, I will create an opening for you in my company, Mac. Oh, and Mac, make sure you send me the bill for the fee on this search."

Mac chuckled, "I appreciate that, you know flattery will get you everywhere."

"You tell his exalted highness what I said. For sure, he is going to kick me where it hurts for trying to steal his right hand man. I enjoy pushing his hot buttons. I'm sure you know how serious Drew is all the time, but in spite of that, I love him anyway. Again, many thanks, Mac."

Noel had completed all his errands and had finished storing his wardrobe when Scott called to say he would meet him in front of the building in ten minutes.

Noel took Scott's hand when he settled himself in the car, "Have I ever told you how attractive you are? I looked over the contract you signed and everything is in order. I asked Stan Handman to send us a couple of copies of the itemized inventory tomorrow. We'll need to send a copy to our insurance broker. I'm anxious to see what goodies we bought. You're right; it's a little like Christmas morning for me. You married a big kid when you married me."

"I knew that, it's the main reason I married you," Scott teased.

"Here I thought it was for my brilliant mind and sense of humor. The engineers are due to inspect the property on Friday, and Handman said he would handle the walk-through for us. Everything is moving along just as we planned it. I have also contacted my friend at Chrysler Motors and ordered that special van we discussed. He said it would be ready for delivery in two months. All I have to do now is to hire our head of security, and let him handle and supervise the van safety features. You look like you belong behind the wheel of this car, it suits you. I wish I could kiss you right now, you look so sexy."

"Later, baby, just be gentle, I bruise easy. Well, this is it." Scott punched the security code on the touch pad outside the entrance and the main gate swung open as Scott drove through. "Welcome to Scarborough Manor."

"You were right, baby, this place is beautiful. I can't believe the family would want to sell this place. You can see a lot of love and thought went into the planning of this estate."

Scott unlocked the large oak door and led Noel into the elegant foyer. This set the tone for all the rooms that followed. They went from room to room, examining the entire manor from top to bottom. Every room was tastefully furnished. The last stop was the master suite.

"I saved the best for last," Scott said. He opened a beautifully carved door that led into a large, exquisitely furnished sitting room. The windows overlooked the front lawn that ended at the Hudson River. The double pocket doors on the left opened to the large master bedroom and the doors on the right led into the study and gym. Both rooms had windows facing the river.

Scott led Noel into the bedroom where he took him in his arms and kissed him tenderly.

"You made the right decision, Scott, buying this estate," Noel said. "I have a good feeling about this house. We'll be happy here, Scott; now I want to make love in our new home."

They undressed and laid on the king size bed and made love.

Noel ended up with his head on Scott's shoulder. "You're a wonderful lover. I've never been so happy; it's heavenly snuggled next to you like this, listening to your intimate thoughts and future plans." They drifted off to sleep in each other's arms. Scott awoke around an hour later.

"Baby, wake-up. I want to show you the grounds before it gets dark."

Later, on their way back to Manhattan, Noel said, "I can't get over that place. It has everything, even snowplows and snow blowers. Snow removal equipment is something I never had to worry about in Manhattan; someone else took care of that. Do you think we should consider buying one of those four-wheel drive vehicles to get you to the train if you can't drive into the city?"

"I hadn't thought that far ahead," Scott said. "It may not be a bad idea. I'm sure we could use another vehicle. At this point, we only have the Rolls, and that monstrosity you use for the boat. The van should be here in two months. We should have at least three cars in case something breaks down. Anyway, we're going to need a car for our staff to use."

"Okay, that's settled then. What time do you want me to come into the hospital for my pre-op tests tomorrow?

"Come in with me tomorrow morning. I'll have you out by nine. Your surgery is set for seven o'clock Monday morning. I'll stay with you on Sunday evening as I planned to sleep at the hospital anyway."

Noel was up early Friday morning. Scott had emergency cases that keep him at the hospital until late on Thursday. He was beat when he crawled in next to Noel that night. Noel had packed their bags while Scott was at the hospital. They were all ready for their weekend at the Retreat. They were sitting in the living room having their coffee.

"Thank you again for my new wardrobe, Tiger, it's a generous gift."

"I'm glad. I enjoy giving you gifts; you're so appreciative; your face lights up just like my boys do on Christmas morning. I can see the delight in your face. The tailor said you were a perfect size and he will be able to finish the off-the-shelf clothes in a few days. You would look good in anything; you have such a great build. I know this embarrasses you to hear this, but you are beautiful with or without clothes."

"You're just saying that because you love me," Scott said. "Come over here and let's make out until our ride gets here."

"That's better. I'm so relieved after talking with Bill Bennett," Scott said. "He is a clever divorce attorney. I'm glad you recommended him. He has accepted my case. He's pleased that I had a competent detective agency following Linda. Bill said I have enough documented evidence against her now for a divorce, what with the all the photographs and video tapes. Oddly enough, Bill knows one of Linda's lovers, and that fellow cannot afford a scandal. Seems he's running for Congress. From now on Bill will work directly with the detective agency."

"He said it was perfectly legal for me to keep the baby in the hospital for a few days for observation. When I do bring Linda home from the hospital, Bill wants me to ask for an uncontested divorce with full custody of the baby. If she agrees, we sign the papers and it's over. He wants me to offer Linda a modest cash settlement, the car and pay the rent on our apartment for one year. If she refuses to play ball we go public. Bill said he would turn over the photos to the Daily News if that's the route she wants to travel. He doubts she will take that route, because it would ruin her socially.

"Do you realize what this means, my love?" Scott said. "I can live with you from now on."

The door attendant rang and notified them that their limo had arrived.

The Retreat

Drew and Mac were waiting for them at the landing pad. Drew made the introductions all around and led them to the Manor house. "It's good to see you, Noel. We plan to have lunch first, and then we can chat later."

"I've a good mind to have these two strapping Scotsmen hold you down while I give you a good swift kick for trying to steal my assistant," Drew said. "You Texans have no shame at all, do you?"

"Now, Drew," Noel responded, "I've seen you pull some deals in your time that would make the angels blush. I'm a gentleman, so I'll not mention all your feats of legerdemain to our Scotsmen."

Drew laughed, "I see you still like to stir things up. You're still as crafty as ever. I understand from Mac that you have decided to live like a human being again, and have moved back into your penthouse instead of camping on that scow of yours. Have you been doing any sailing this summer?"

"Funny you should ask," Noel said. "I found an excellent sailing partner in Scott. He is really a better sailor than me. We really should plan to sail this season; what do you say, Drew?"

"I would enjoy that. It's been too long since we've been sailing."

"All kidding aside, Drew, why don't the four of us take a long weekend off and go sailing? That is … if the President can spare you?"

"Let's plan on that. I know Mac would welcome the experience. Where did you learn to sail, Scott?" Drew asked.

"My dad taught me to sail the old fashioned way, without all the refinements that Noel's yacht has. That's one thing I miss since moving to the United States."

After they finished lunch, Mac told Drew and Noel that he would take Scott on a tour of the Retreat and show him the guest villa where they would be spending the night.

"We'll find you, Mac, after Noel and I have a chat," Drew said.

After they were settled comfortably in the library, Drew said, "I'm so sorry to hear about Leanne. This must be difficult for you."

"You don't know the half of it," Noel said. "You're my closest friend and you know I love you more than my own brother, but there is something I feel you should know."

"The feeling is mutual," Drew said. "We've shared a lot of grief over the years and I have cried on your shoulders many times in the past. I knew it had to be something important when you called me last week. What's this all about?"

"There are serious doubts that Leanne will pull through," Noel said. "I've nothing concrete to go on, but it's a feeling I have. The doctors are guarded as usual, other than the usual wait and see attitude. Leanne is acting as if the end is near. Cancer scares the hell out of me, and I always fear the worst."

Noel went on to tell him about his agonizing decision regarding his sons' future, and the reason for his hurried call.

"Now some wonderful news," Noel said. "I'm madly in love for the first time in my life and I'm married for life this time."

"I was unaware that you had divorced Leanne."

"I haven't, I'm married to Scott MacGregor. He is my spouse now. I hope this will not affect our friendship now that you know the truth about me. I've gone through an agonizing emotional time before I accepted the truth about myself. Everyone knew me as a womanizer in college and most of it was true. My love for Scott hit me like a ton of bricks. I was not prepared for it. Frankly, I thought I was losing my mind. Everything hit at once, Leanne's health and worrying about the boys. You could not possibly understand the pressure I felt. Then on top of all that, I fall in love with a man. Scott has been my salvation throughout all this and has helped me to understand my sexual orientation. I have to admit that in spite of everything, I have never been happier in my life."

Drew smiled, "I wish you and Scott a long and happy life. He is a handsome and charming man. God has been very good to us, Noel, for giving each of us a handsome Scotsman for a spouse."

"My God, you mean you and Mac are lovers? How wonderful! This comes as a big surprise. From what I've observed he is efficient and professional. I would have never guessed in a million years that you two are gay. I'm happy for you, Drew.

"Scott has made me so happy. He is the most thoughtful and caring person I've ever known. I never knew love could be so wonderful. Unfortunately, he's married to a real witch who has treated him very badly. As soon as his child is born, he is divorcing the bitch. Scott is the reason I moved back into the penthouse. We also purchased a beautiful estate on the Hudson River called Scarborough Manor for our new little family. We would like to invite you and Mac to spend a weekend with us as soon as we're settled."

"Scott is the ideal man for me, he is reserved and a take-charge person, like most doctors. He reminds me so much of you. A bomb could go off and you two would stay calm."

"He is so thoughtful, when I returned from Charleston he gave me a huge bouquet of roses with a love note attached. That was the first time I had ever received a bouquet from anyone. It may not seem important to anyone else, but it meant a lot to me. I love giving him gifts. He has not been on the receiving end lately. I know how it bothers him to accept expensive presents from me and it's the one thing he finds difficult to adjust to, you know how proud these Scotsman are. I gave him my Rolls as an engagement present and you'd think I had given him the world. He was so heartbroken when he realized he would have to give his Mercedes to his wife. I felt he needed the Rolls to lift his spirits. Tell you the truth, I feel safer driving around in my beat-up van than in the Rolls. Scott is a dedicated, hardworking plastic surgeon and tops in his field. Oddly enough, he is the rugged outdoors sportsman, hunting, fishing and all that rot. One thing I've learned about a true Scotsman, their word is their bond. And they are loyal; once they give you their word, it's forever. Now tell me about Mac, he looks like he could snap me like a twig. They sure grow 'em big in the country, don't they?"

"Mac is everything I ever wanted. He is brilliant, sophisticated, kind, considerate and a passionate lover. He is a competent executive well beyond his years. Mac has that disarming way when it comes to dealing with people. He is a good listener and can spot a winner in a matter of minutes. He is extraordinary when it comes to his mental abilities. He is twenty-seven, with the brain capacity that would equal both of ours put together. He amazes me with his capacity to absorb and retain information. It's unbelievable. I have never found an executive who could come close to his abilities, or dedication. He is a delight to work with and never forgets a thing. Besides everything else, he has an enthusiasm that is contagious and you can't help but be infected. He frightens me sometimes, his perception is so extraordinary. Mac has opposed my decision only once. As it turned out, he was right. He is a team player; once the decision is made he will accept it without another word."

"Mac has been supportive and has lifted a heavy burden off my shoulders by taking over for me while I'm overseas. He has made me happy and I love him dearly. His only fault is that he pushes himself too hard. I'm afraid he'll burn out. His powers of concentration are unbelievable. He can block everything out of his mind except what he's working on at the time. The strain has been too much on him; I noticed that today. We plan to relax and recharge our batteries for the next week. Next month we're planning an extended vacation. We both had a good laugh at you offering him a job. It's surprising it wasn't more like the other way around. He knows all about you. He told me he needed a man like you in his organization. Mac is a unique individual and you will discover that soon enough for yourself. He has been looking around for a firm like yours. If he thinks you're a good fit, he'll make you an offer you can't refuse."

"I love you like a brother, Drew, but there's no way in hell I'm going to sell my firm to Mac or anyone else. I could never work for another man. I'd close the company before I'd ever sell it to another person."

"Let's make a little wager," Drew said. "If Mac decides you're the man for him, not only will you join him, but you'll become a division under his corporation. Let's bet a case of Napoleon Brandy. It's a done deal when you become a division of MacDonald-Stevens."

"That's a bet," Noel said.

"Now I don't want to hear any of your moaning and groaning if you lose."

Noel laughed heartily, "Drew, old boy, I don't plan to lose."

"Remember now, if you turn down his offer, I owe you a case of Napoleon Brandy," Drew said. "Don't be fooled by his youth and his easy manner. Behind that facade is a tough-minded businessman. He has put together a ten-year business plan that would knock your socks off. It is the most brilliant piece of work I have ever read. The most amazing thing about his plan is that it's working. I could not find any holes in it. His timetable is kind of tight for my conservative thinking, yet there's no doubt in my mind whatsoever, that he will succeed. He is running my company now, and my people are crazy about him. He has cut down on absenteeism, and has reduced our turnover rate to less than five percent. He is tough-minded, yet fair in his dealings, and works harder and longer than anyone in the firm.

"I'm not saying this just because I love him. Mac has formed a new corporation with my backing and support. When I return next month from overseas, he is resigning from GW to concentrate on the MacDonald-Stevens Corporation.

"The two deals he put together in Paris two weeks ago were the slickest pieces of business I've ever seen. Remember our brainstorm days at Harvard, when we each tried to plan the ideal business development plan? Well, Mac did it in practice. Jesus, it was beautiful to see it fall into place. Are you ready for this, Noel? Mac is in the process of purchasing two firms, and one of the principals is willing to bankroll him. I am talking billions of dollars. I could not believe my ears when he told me what he had accomplished. I've not seen the likes of him in all my years in business," Drew said. "He's in a class all by himself. Enough of my spouse, let's find those two handsome giants and share our good news."

"You speak of Mac as some sort of superhuman," Noel said. "I hope you won't feel too badly when you lose our bet, Drew."

Drew smiled and patted Noel on the back, "Whatever you say, Noel." They found Mac and Scott strolling back from the villas.

"God, what a handsome pair of Scotsmen those two are," Drew said. "We are two very lucky men."

"I'm impressed with your surgery, Drew, its top notch," Scott said. "It's on a par with anything I've seen in my own hospital. What do you say if I operate on you here tomorrow, Noel?"

"No, thank you; I think we'll go with the original plan," Noel said.

"Mac, we're going to have to open a bottle of our best champagne tonight and toast these two on their marriage."

Mac smiled, "Well, congratulations. I wish you a long and happy life together. Scott, I thought I detected a sparkle in your eyes every time you spoke of Noel."

They all walked back to the manor house and sat in the drawing room. The room was bathed in the warm glow of the afternoon sunlight. Mac closed the doors after them. Each couple sat in the matching pair of large comfortable sofas that faced the windows. The view was spectacular through the large windows.

"Drew, isn't this wonderful?" Mac said. "We have another couple to socialize with. I've always wanted to meet you, Noel. Drew told me you were quite the playboy during college."

"How did you and Drew meet," Scott asked.

"We met in that surgery you like so much," Mac said. "This house is a very special place for me, because this is where we met and fell in love. We have been together almost a year now and I still feel we are on our honeymoon; at least it has never ended for us. Drew found me on his doorstep, in the middle of a raging snowstorm, frozen half to death. Drew is my world now and I could not be happier. Of course I believe that we are part of God's master plan, but that's a story for another time."

"I was pleasantly surprised when Drew told me that you two are lovers," Noel said. "I've never seen Drew so happy; you must be doing something right. You married a super person. Now, that Scott and I are married, we are going to need friends like you two even more than ever. Let us not kid ourselves, there are going to be some tough times ahead for all of us because we are gay. That's why I feel it's more important than ever that we should stick together. Scott and I are both facing difficult times with our wives right now that we are working out. We know that no matter what happens, we will be together from now on. Scott has been supportive and has given me the strength to get me through this difficult time with my family."

"Drew, you know my family," Noel said. "You're also aware of my relationship with Leanne and the boys. I must confess I was looking for a meaningful relationship, but I never thought it would be with another man. I believe in what you said before, Mac, God has a lot to do with it. When Scott walked into my world that Sunday night, something magical happened between us. At that moment, Scott was the only other person on this planet. Time stopped and I was in his spell. We spoke for over two hours, yet it seemed like two minutes. Later that night I had this overpowering desire for him. It was only then I realized where my sexual orientation was headed. I didn't want to deal with it anymore that evening so I took a couple of sleeping pills and fell asleep."

"I met with him the next day in his office and my feelings toward him had not changed. It was a replay of the previous night. I felt like a lovesick school kid. I had a crush on Scott. After that night, we saw each other every day until I left for Charleston. We made plans to go sailing on The Jason the following weekend. That's when I discovered I was in love with Scott. That was also the night I asked him to live with me."

Scott said, "What Noel didn't know was that I had a crush on him for some time. I'm sure you all have experienced the emotional trauma we endure when we accept the fact we're homosexuals. It can only be described as pure hell. For me, as a doctor, it was a little easier to accept. I tended to look at homosexuality more clinically."

"That first night on his yacht was intense," Scott said. "It was the night I opened up to Noel and told him about my private life. I guess we were both feeling the effects of the brandy and we were both tired. Later that night, Noel woke me up in the middle of the night. He was having a bad nightmare. I was concerned, because it was obvious to me that he was heading for a breakdown. The next morning on deck was the first time I had the chance to hold him close to me and it felt wonderful. Later that morning, I held him in my arms while he fell sound asleep for over an hour. I was in my glory. Here I was, on a beautiful ketch running with the wind, and holding the man I have been wanting for a long time."

"I was troubled, because Noel was not responding to my overt advances," Scott said. "Finally, it happened; Noel kissed me, thinking I was asleep. It was a beautiful moment for me. I kept my eyes closed to see what he would do next. When I opened them, he was gone. I stowed the blankets and followed him below a few minutes later. He was working at the sink when I came up behind him and took him in my arms and kissed him. It was pure bliss from that moment on."

"We have a few immediate problems that we would like to ask your help with," Scott went on. "We need to find a male houseman who can take care of the house and take care of Noel when he comes home from the hospital. Noel goes in for his operation on Monday morning and I don't want him to be alone in the apartment after he comes home from the hospital. I can't contact any of my staff at the hospital, because it might get back to Linda. We would like to find a man who could cope with our life style. I understand from Noel that you were trying to find someone for us Mac. Have you had any luck at all?"

"I think we may have someone for you. Drew's butler has been helping me with this project and we are trying to set up a phone interview this afternoon."

"Why don't we try and reach Chris now?" Mac said, "Come on with me, Scott. I've talked to this candidate very briefly, and he is good. He's a former CIA operative and may be overqualified for your position, but I want to interview him anyway. He may know someone who could fit. He is twenty-eight, a Chinese American, gay, and highly intelligent. He has everything you're looking for including his martial arts expertise. Drew's security VP, RW Nelson has checked him out. I suggest we take the time to interview him today."

Mac called Michael Lee and made arrangements to have him fly over to the Retreat and to plan on staying the night.

"I really appreciate this, Mac." Scott said. "Noel wants me to handle the staffing. He thinks I have better people skills because I'm a doctor. This is all new for me and I'm going to need your help, if you don't mind giving me a hand, Mac."

"I find it interesting that Noel would place that burden on you," Mac said. "I'll be happy to give you a hand. You can tell the beautiful one that we Scotsmen know how to handle everything. If you give me a free hand, I'll have my people do all the necessary screening. The final decision will be up to you in the end. After all, you're the one who will be living with them. Now, Dr. MacGregor, I want to speak to you as a professional. Can you spare me a few minutes?"

"How can I help you?" Scott asked.

"I want to know all about anal sex," Mac said. "Is it safe, and if so, what precautions should I take? I would not want to do anything that would hurt either of us. Anyway, I would rather find out from a doctor. Drew and I want to explore different ways of having sex."

"I will explain the basics. Let's head back to your surgery where I will get the things you'll need. I will also give you some pointers on how prepare your partner. The foreplay can be just as exciting as the actual sex itself. I suggest you both take an enema before you have intercourse. It can be less messy that way. It takes a little time to prepare your lover, but I assure you the results will be well worth the effort. Any time you have questions regarding a sexual matter, just ask."

Scott explained the way to expand the anus, the use of the finger cots, the special lubricant and the use of condoms. He suggested body massage could be very stimulating as an exciting way to start.

"We'd better get back to our spouses before they start to pout," Mac said.

Scott laughed. "My Tiger is really a pussy cat."

When they returned, Noel and Drew were in the same spots.

"Well, Mac pulled it off," Scott said. "We are going to interview a candidate in an hour."

"That's the way to go, men," Noel said. "Now I don't have to get up out of a sick bed to make dinner and clean the house."

"I have one other problem that I would like to kick around with you guys that I don't feel like discussing with my shrink unless I have to," Noel said. "My boys are the same as their father when it comes to nightmares. Both Jason and Eric have been having nightmares in the middle of the night since Leanne has been sick. Jason, my oldest, woke up every night. The last two trips I had them sleep with me. My question is how I should handle this when Scott and I are sleeping together. I certainly don't want them to walk into our bedroom and find us in each other's arms. On the other hand, I expect them to come to me if they're frightened. They are going to be under more stress when Leanne dies, not to mention the trauma of adjusting to new surroundings."

"Have your boys been taught not to discuss family business with outsiders?" Mac asked.

"Absolutely. Leanne taught them at an early age never to mention anything that happens in the house to outsiders," Noel said.

"Then I don't see the problem. Children are naturally curious, and they won't think much about your sleeping with Scott. Boys are even less concerned then girls," Mac said. "Kids today, are taught sex education in school at an early age, and they know about homosexual and heterosexual relationships.

"Naturally, the schools only scratch the surface and try not to delve into the subject too deeply," Mac said. "If they come to you crying, don't take them into bed with you. Walk them back to their own bed and stay with them until they fall back to sleep. This way you have accomplished two things: you are there for them, and they can wake up in their own bed the following morning. I suggest you place monitors in each of their rooms. With the monitor on you will hear them when they wake up crying. You can go to them before they walk into your bedroom. The best idea would be go to them if you hear them cry out in the middle of the night. It would be a good idea if Scott could go to them a few times. I feel the boys will adapt quickly and accept Uncle Scott."

"Live your life the same way your parents did. Have your sex behind closed, locked doors. If the kids ask why you are sleeping together I think you should try to probe a little to find out what prompted the question. If Jason suspects the truth, then you should be prepared to tell him the truth. But your shrink should be able to advise you better on these issues. Your sons love you and won't question you. I'm sure they will accept Scott, particularly after they've been sick a few times. They will automatically accept Scott, because he is a doctor and your friend. Anyway, he is going to have his own baby whom they will love and be very protective of as big brothers do. That's normally the way children are toward a baby. If they are not happy with you guys, Drew and I will be happy to take them off your hands."

"Thanks, Mac, we needed your no nonsense farm boy approach to keep us on an even keel," Scott said.

"Did you bring the video and pictures of the boys?" Drew asked. "I'm anxious to see them again."

"Yes, I did, they're in my suite," Noel said.

"Mac and I have to leave to talk to Michael Lee in a few minutes," Scott said. "I'll pick them up on the way back after the interview, Noel."

Scott and Mac took off for the landing pad.

Michael Lee's helicopter was landing as they reached the pad. They all shook hands and escorted Mike to the second guest villa.

"Did you bring along a copy of your résumé, Mike?" Mac asked.

Michael handed Mac a folder containing all his paperwork. Mac scanned the résumé and passed it to Scott.

"You have an outstanding background," Mac said. "I see you were stationed in Japan for a while. I am studying Japanese myself, and find it a very difficult language to master. Maybe you could help me brush up a little tomorrow, if you're free."

"I have a few questions to ask you," Mac said. "Then I'll turn you over to Dr. MacGregor. I'd like to know why you resigned from the agency."

"I did not resign. They forced me to resign after they learned I am a homosexual," Mike said. "My conduct during my career was above reproach. I was very bitter when I was forced out."

"I can understand your resentment, Mike, but in reality they did you a big favor," Mac said. "You would not be here today talking with us if they hadn't kicked you out. You've learned a great deal from the agency and now it's time to make use of that knowledge in the business world. In time you would have discovered that on your own. That is my opinion, for what it's worth."

Mike smiled and said, "Thank you for your kind words, Mr. MacDonald, I did not know you were part Chinese, you understand our wisdom."

"I'm a great admirer of the Eastern culture and philosophies," Mac said. "Scott, why don't you tell Mike about your position?"

Scott outlined the position at the penthouse and possibility of becoming the head of security for Scarborough Manor.

"I think your position is a great opportunity for the right person, Dr. MacGregor, but I feel I'm not the man for you," Mike said. "Please don't misunderstand me; it would be a piece of cake working for two professionals like you and Mr. Erickson. However, it's not challenging enough for me, I would be crawling the walls after a few months, even with the added responsibility of security for the Manor. I know the ideal guy for that job, and he is looking to make a change. He's a homosexual and feels the agency will kick him out too. It's only a matter of time before they find out about him. He could handle all your security problems and manage everything for you; he is a super guy and an excellent teacher. He also happens to be a gourmet cook."

"Are you working now, Mike?" Mac asked.

"No, I've been concentrating on finding the right career opportunity for the last three months," Mike explained. "I've turned down several good offers in the process, but I'm not going to accept a job unless it's the right one for me."

"I may have a solution for everyone," Mac said. "Mike, would you be willing to work for Scott temporarily until we can check out this guy you mentioned? They are in a bind now and need your help. You can use the time to help me to find the ideal staff for them. What do you say?"

"I have no problem helping out temporarily, as long as it's understood that it's temporary, and that I'm able to take the time off to interview," Mike said. "If we can agree to those conditions, I see no problem starting tomorrow."

Scott was all smiles, "Thank you, Mike. I really appreciate this."

"Why don't you head back to the house, Scott?" Mac said. "I want to spend a few minutes with Mike."

"Great! See you guys later," Scott said as he left.

"What did Chris tell you about me?" Mac asked.

"He said you were forming your own firm in the near future. He told me in confidence that if you offered me a job, do not hesitate, accept the job. He said you were the smartest man he ever met and if I had the chance to work for you, go for it."

Mac chuckled and said, "Good; that will save us a lot of time. I'm considering offering you a job in my organization, but before we go any further, there is a battery of tests that you must pass before I can hire you," Mac said. "Do you have any objections to taking my tests?"

"I have no objections," Mike said. "I'll take any tests you want. I can assure you that I'm clean, Mr. MacDonald."

"Good, I saw immediately that you were overqualified for Scott's job. Now let me tell you a little about what I expect from you if you accept my offer to become my executive assistant. Do you have a starting salary in mind?"

"I need a minimum of fifty-thousand and that is for a seven-day week if required," Mike told him.

"Because of the sensitive information you will be privy to, I must have your complete loyalty," Mac said. "Sometimes my orders may not make sense to you, but you must not hesitate to carry them out. The only person who can counteract my order is Drew Stevens. Drew Stevens is my business partner and my spouse.

"In addition to the many hats you will wear, your most important job is to be in charge of my security," Mac said. "I'm putting my life in your hands from this day forward. I want you to call me Mac, unless we are in a situation where last names are appropriate. Your starting salary will be $60-thousand dollars with a five-thousand dollar sign-on bonus. In addition, you will receive the complete corporate benefit package starting on your first day of employment. You won't need a company car because you will be traveling with me most of the time. I would like you to purchase a large stock vehicle that does not attract attention and modify it to meet your security standards.

"We have a strict dress code," Mac said. "You are to dress as any successful young executive in the company. The company will pick up the tab for your first complete wardrobe, after that you will be responsible for your own wardrobe. You may want to check that out with Chris when you get back to Manhattan. When we finish up here I'm going to turn you over to Kim. He's our complex manager. He will give you the once over and explain our dress code. Kim happens to be my good friend and is Chris's counterpart here at the Retreat. They are a good source if you have any questions about protocol. We will meet every day from now on to discuss some of my projects and work out your exact responsibilities. Naturally, you will be living with Scott and Noel, but after you finish that assignment, you will be living with me at the Penthouse. Why don't you work that out with Chris? Before I digress, I expect you to have a private life and if you have a significant other, I will arrange for you to live together. Do you plan to have a lover, Mike?"

"I'm working on it, Mac," Mike said. "He is in the same line of work so that doesn't present a problem."

"So, what is the problem? Doesn't Doug want to get married, Mike?"

"He doesn't want to make that commitment now. He is only twenty-six and doesn't want to get married until he leaves the agency. He needs time to sort things out, before making a marriage commitment. I understand his concerns about the agency, and his close ties to his family. His father is well connected in politics and would not understand his reasons for leaving the agency."

"If he's good, I might be interested in hiring him. You may want to check him out; in any event, I would like to meet him. What's his background?"

"He's a Chemical Engineer and is a linguist, he speaks Spanish, German, and Japanese, very intelligent and a super guy" Mike said.

"I know just where we can use Douglas Austin Chatham, III," Mac said. "Now that that's settled, I would like you to work on finding Scott his staff, ASAP. Let's start with the former CIA candidate, you mentioned. We can build the organization around him and he can help us fill the other positions. I would like you to take care of that right away. Welcome on board the MacDonald-Stevens Corporation. I know you'll do a fine job, Mike, you're on my payroll as of today. I'll drop off the employment package to you tomorrow. Meet me at the penthouse for breakfast, 6AM Monday. I'll give you your computer and have RW give you chapter and verse on our security. Coordinate your wardrobe selections and fittings with Chris. I want you to start your training next week even though it's only a few hours a day. I'm sure we can get the honeymooners squared away by the end of next week. Now I'll call in Kim to get you squared away."

"How did you know Doug's last name?" Mike asked. "I don't recall mentioning his name."

"You didn't. I read your mind," Mac said. "You also accepted the job the same way. You gave me your permission when you agreed to take my tests. Reading your mind was one of my tests."

Mike smiled, "I like your style, Mac. You are the smoothest person I've ever met, inside or outside the agency," Mike said. "I'm going to enjoy working for you."

"Promise me you'll keep my secret, and don't mention this to anyone, not even to Dougy," Mac said. "Secondly, I want your permission to read your mind during business hours."

"You have my permission any time you want," Mike said. "You knew everything I was thinking about all this time?"

Mac smiled, "I'm flattered that you think I'm a handsome hunk and one smart cookie to boot," Mac said. "In return, I would like to say, that you are a handsome man yourself and extremely intelligent; we should get along just fine. When you feel like talking about it, I would like to learn all about your children."

Kim knocked on the door and entered.

"Kim, I want you to meet my new executive assistant, Mike Lee," Mac said. Mac put his hand on Kim's shoulder. "Kim is my mentor and good friend, Mike. He is nothing short of a genius, and I love him. Kim, I want you to take charge here and help Mike the same way you did for me. He is a good man and I want you to work your magic on him. He will be joining us for cocktails and dinner. You won't have to work as hard on him as you did with me. He's not just off the farm like I was, so he will be easy to fix up. You can take anything you need from my closet that will fit for tonight. He has a beautiful head of hair, but it looks like hell. I'm sure you can wave you magic wand on that as well. The poor guy has been going to the wrong barber. If you can spare the time tomorrow, maybe you can help Mike select a nice townhouse. Mike has a lover, so assign him one where he can have some privacy. Mike, you can change the interior decor any way you wish. If you have your own furniture the company will pay to move it. Kim will help you all he can. Is there anything I can do for you before I leave?"

"Only one thing," Mike said. "Where do I meet you tonight and at what time?"

"How stupid of me," Mac said. "Cocktails at six in the drawing room, and if you like classical music, drop by the family room around five. I'm giving a private recital for Drew this evening. Kim, would you have one of your staff show Mike the way? I will try to give you the grand tour tomorrow, Mike. Now, I must be off before Drew gives me hell," Mac said. "Kim, I have no secrets, you are free to answer any of Mike's questions; I know he has a curious mind. See you later."

When they were alone again, Mike said, "He is the nicest person I have met in a long, long time. Have you known him long, Kim?"

"I've only known Mac for a year now," Kim said. "Yet I feel I've known him all his life. Mac is like a son to me. You'll never meet two finer people than Mr. Stevens and Mac; they are the greatest. Besides being a terrific guy, Mac is brilliant, yet he is down to earth and fantastically loyal to his employees and friends alike. He has made Mr. Stevens very happy and for that matter, everyone else in this complex. You cannot help but like the man. You must be a smart guy yourself, because Mac only hires the best people. Now let's get you ready for tonight. I don't have much time, so I'll run up to the master suite now while they're occupied. You're the same size as Mr. Stevens so it should be easy. In the meantime, you take a shower and shampoo your hair with the shampoo in the bathroom. I'll be back in a few minutes."

When Kim returned he cut and styled Mike's hair and trimmed his eyebrows. "Now let's try these clothes on." Kim helped him dress and made a few more changes in his wardrobe until he was satisfied. "Good! Now take a look in the full length mirror."

"My God, You've made me look terrific," Mike said. "These clothes are absolutely beautiful; they're so soft and fit so well."

"You are a handsome man, Mike," Kim said. "You're as bad as Mac. You're two of a kind. Why is it that handsome men never see themselves that way?"

"You stick with Mac and he will take care of you," Kim said.

"Mac spoke highly of you, Kim," Mike said. "It's obvious he has a warm place in his heart for you. Thank you for your help; you did a great job. I would like to hear Mac play. Would you give me directions to the family room? Kim, don't worry about Mac; I'll see that nothing happens to him; I promise. He's my boss now."

Kim led him through the underground tunnel to the main house and up to the family room. He could hear the music coming through the open door. It sounded beautiful, even from outside. It sounded as if a symphony orchestra was performing in the family room. When he walked in, he saw that Mac was seated at the concert grand piano, playing. The orchestra accompanying Mac was on a prerecorded digital tape. The sound quality was excellent. The speakers and electronic systems were first class professional equipment. Mac controlled the tapes from a compact control panel attached directly to the piano keyboard allowing Mac to fine-tune the speed of the tape deck. He was playing the Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto #2.

Mac nodded to him as he entered and continued to play. An attractive young man walked over to him and extended his hand, "Good evening, Mr. Lee, I'm Drew Stevens, Mac's partner. I'm glad you could join us this evening. I understand congratulations are in order as well. Mac told me of your new position with our firm. I'm pleased that you will be working for Mac. Let's sit down and enjoy his concert."

Rachmaninoff was one of Mike's favorite composers. The beautiful sound quality made him feel he was listening to the music in a concert hall. The music had a hypnotic effect on Mike. Watching Mac's hands moving so rapidly on the keyboard carried Mike beyond the huge windows. He felt suspended in space above the huge green mountains, staring into the huge setting sun. The music was definitely having a dramatic and exciting effect on him.

Drew noticed how the music affected Mike. "I see that you enjoyed the recital," Drew said.

"That was so beautiful, combined with the view of the sun setting over the mountain, was so profound, I felt as if I was floating in space and not in this room at all; I was out there. I love classical music, but this was a unique sensation; it was truly magnificent."

Mac walked up to the sofa, bowed and said in Japanese, "I'm glad you could make it, Michael-san. If you promise not to leave the room again, I will play a Mozart piano concerto I've been practicing for Drew. I promise it is not as dramatic and moving as Rachmaninoff is.

"Drew, please excuse my rudeness," Mac said. "I could not resist the urge to practice my Japanese. Mike is fluent in the language and I wanted him to point out any mistakes I was making. I was telling Mike that I wanted to play a Mozart I've been learning for you, unless you would like to hear something else."

"Please play the Mozart," Drew said.

Mac returned to the piano. He started the tape and synchronized his playing with the recording. Scott and Noel came in and sat down to listen to the concert.

Mac finished the concert and turned off the sound equipment as everyone applauded. Mac bowed and joined the group.

"Now, gentlemen, your waiter will be around to collect your generous gratuities for my efforts," Mac said. "Drew needs every penny now that he is not earning a regular salary."

"In case you were wondering who this handsome young man sitting next to Drew is, I hasten to introduce him," Mac said. "Mr. Chairman, gentlemen, I have the honor of introducing my new executive assistant, Mike Lee."

Kim came in bearing a tray with a bottle of champagne and crystal tulip champagne glasses, which he placed on the table in front of Drew. Kim uncorked the champagne and poured it into the glasses, then served each guest and left.

Drew stood and raised his glass, "Gentlemen, I have the delightful task of proposing a toast to Noel and Scott on their marriage," Drew said. "May your marriage last forever, and may your love for one another continue to grow."

Noel thanked everyone for their kind wishes and love. "We especially want to thank Drew and Mac for their hospitality and help, and especially to Mike for helping us in our time of need."

"Mac, would you like to play something that our friend from Texas will relate to," Drew said.

"Noel, would you like me to play anything special, or would you like to hear some of Drew's favorites?" Mac asked. "I don't want to pressure you in any way, but remember he is your host and he pays my salary. Now what would you like to hear?"

Noel laughed, "Whatever Drew likes is fine with me," he said. "I wouldn't want to see you starve. You need that salary now that Drew is not bringing home the bacon these days."

Mac sat down and played the show tunes Drew enjoyed. They were lively and lightened the mood a little.

Mike walked over to the piano, bowed his head and said in Japanese, "Duncan-san, you are a man of many talents, how did you learn to play so well?"

Mac gave Mike a brief account of his early life on the farm. How his Mother taught him to play classical music, and explained his gift for languages.

"You are to stop worrying that you may not do well as my executive assistant," Mac said. "Remember your primary job is to protect me. That is what you have been trained to do, and will do well. Your other responsibilities will become clearer as you learn more about my business and exactly what I expect of you. You're training in the company will be invaluable to me, because I plan to use you as my trouble shooter. You will be my eyes and ears in the field. As I add new divisions, I will need you more than ever because it will be impossible for me to investigate all the problems that will develop. That's where I intend to use your talents, so I intend to train you thoroughly before I turn you loose. After you have learned my way of working, I plan to send you out in the field. If you stay with me and do my bidding, you will become an important executive in my corporation and a wealthy one as well. Remember, every project I assign you to is important, or I wouldn't send you. Never doubt my loyalty or confidence in you. If you have any misgivings about any assignment, I expect you to come to me and we will discuss the matter. It won't be long before you will live as comfortably as Drew and I. If you are willing to work hard, the benefits and rewards will come. All that is required is your dedication and loyalty."

"I believe in you, Duncan-san," Mike said. "Thank you for choosing me. You will never regret hiring me." He bowed again and walked away.

Drew walked over to the piano after Mike left. "Thank you for the recital. Your talent is improving every day."

"Thank you, sweetheart," Mac said.

"Would you be disappointed if we excused ourselves early this evening?" Mac asked. "I would like to spend some quality time with you tonight."

"I'll work everything out. You've added another disciple to your ever growing circle," Drew said. "You promised you would let me sit in on the next hire."

"Sit down next to me, Drew, and read my mind," Mac said. "You can have an instant replay."

"After he finished, Drew said, "I understand why your people would never refuse you, Mac. I'm concerned about this death threat you were talking about. Are you in any danger?"

"Yes, but not in any imminent danger," Mac said. "Everything is under control. RW has assigned a security detail to me around the clock. Mike is an added precaution. If I thought it was more serious, I would tell you immediately."

"My God, Mac, don't you know I could not live without you?" Drew said. "Are you absolutely sure that you're safe?"

"I'm safe for now, you can check with RW," Mac said. "He is coordinating everything. Please don't worry, everything is under control. I'm not afraid. It has to do with my premonition. We will die in each other's arms and it's not for some time to come. That much I do know. I think maybe that will allay your fears."

Drew smiled, "I love you too much to have anything happen to you, I wish we could leave and make love."

"Read my mind and you can," Mac said.

"Wow! I never thought this was possible. We must stop; I'm getting us too aroused."

"You are one sexy guy," Mac said. "I'm glad I'm sitting down. Think about your trip; that will cool you down."

Kim announced dinner was being served and everyone followed Drew to the main dining room. After dinner, they all watched the video of Noel's family.

"Those are two wonderful kids, Noel," Mac said. "Drew and I would take them off your hands in a heartbeat. Scott, that is a beautiful package deal you latched onto. Two fine looking boys and a handsome Daddy to complete the package. If the boys don't behave you can take it out on Daddy."

"Leanne doesn't look good," Drew said. "It's a damn shame; she was a lovely woman. The boys are going to be miserable for a long time over losing their mother. You're fortunate to have Scott to lean on."

"Gentlemen, I don't mean to desert you, but I'm returning to Washington on Monday, and I have a lot of reports to go over. Please make yourselves at home and we will see you tomorrow at brunch. You can order breakfast anytime you feel hungry, either in your room or in the dining room."

Drew and Mac took the elevator to the fourth floor where they undressed and dimmed the lights. Mac took Drew into his arms and tenderly kissed him. They walked over to the lounge and lay down together. The moonlight shone in through the windows. Drew laid his head on Mac's shoulder.

Mac loved to feel Drew's naked body pressed against his. He gently stroked his silky golden skin. He knew every inch of Drew's body and spent many hours in a state of euphoria. Mac knew exactly how far he could go before they would erupt.

"I want to have anal sex with you tonight," Mac said. "I want to know how it feels to have you deep inside me, my love."

Mac led him to the bed and explained to him exactly what Scott had told him.

Mac took the condoms and placed one on Drew, then the other on himself. He passed Drew the finger cots and the special lubricant. He turned on his side. Drew followed Mac's instructions and when Mac's rectum was sufficiently relaxed, he entered him.

"If I'm hurting you, sweetheart, let me know," Drew said.

"It feels a little uncomfortable but not unpleasant," Mac said. "You keep pushing until you're in as far as you can go. I'll let you know if it hurts."

Drew waited until he felt Mac's penis harden. Then he synchronized his thrusts with the same rhythm he was pumping Mac's penis. They both became more aroused and well on the way to climax. Drew whispered, "This is such ecstasy, my beautiful baby; I can't hold back any longer." Their minds and body's merged into a beautiful and satisfying climax.

"Are you all right, Lover?" Mac asked. He kissed Drew once again. "I had to pry myself out of your arms. You didn't want to let me go. I thought you were going to stay inside me for good. When you first entered me, I felt very full and uncomfortable, then the most sensational feeling took hold of me and I wanted you to continue forever. When you finally withdrew, I felt very empty and emotionally drained. It was the most gratifying sexual activity I've ever experienced with you. I felt that we were one in mind and body. I'm sorry I overloaded your circuits."

"I'm still tingling all over from that experience," Drew said.

"I really started to worry about you, baby; you were somewhere else," Mac said. "I'm concerned about using our brain waves too much. You acted as if you were on an acid trip."

"You are the sexiest and most beautiful man I have ever known," Drew said, "I can't even remember what life was like before I met you. I'm not referring to the sex part, which is always great. I'm speaking of the months of happiness you have given me. You are so caring and thoughtful, you went out of your way to help Noel and Scott, and you have given Mike Lee a new lease on life. I'm madly in love with you."

"I've a little surprise for you, my love, this will be my last trip overseas," Drew said. "The President accepted my resignation last week and has asked me to find my replacement. You mean more to me than any Presidential appointment. I should be home for good in three weeks. I don't want to be separated from you any longer. My life is nothing without you, and I intend to share whatever time I have left in this life with you."

"God! You've made me so happy," Mac said. "I know I promised not to cry anymore, but this is such wonderful news. I need you here even more than ever before. All the hard work and the building of our new corporation mean nothing to me unless you are part of it. I don't want to come home to an empty bed. God, this is wonderful news."

"Now you've got me crying."

They fell asleep in each other's arms and didn't wake up until the sun streamed through the window at seven o'clock. Mac kissed Drew until he woke up. "Do you realize this is the first time I have not been up by five o'clock since I was a young kid?"

"Poor baby," Drew said. "Bad habits are hard to break."

Mac squeezed him hard, "Are you making fun of me? Think of all the cows that will be hurting because we didn't milk them. I guess early to bed, early to rise, doesn't cut it anymore. Speaking of rising, let's not waste our erections. He handed Drew the KY Gel, the condoms and the rubber glove and said, "I want you to make love to me again."

"You don't have to ask me twice," Drew said.

They made love for the third time in the same satisfying way, but this time they stayed locked together and fell asleep again.

Drew awoke and realized he was still holding Mac. He had finally found the satisfaction he needed. He turned Mac on his back and sat next to him on the bed holding his hand. Mac was sleeping soundly. Drew could do anything he wanted to him and he would not wake up, except if he called out his name. Drew enjoyed these quite moments watching Mac sleep.

Drew thought, 'He is more handsome today than he was the day I found him'. He marveled at his beautifully tanned muscular body, with light brown curly hair. 'I love everything about him'.

Their only regret was they couldn't have children and they both felt strongly about that. Every man wants to plant his seed and watch it grow. They would never see that happening.

Mac opened his eyes to see Drew was holding his hand. "This is a pleasant way to wake up." He pulled Drew down in his arms and held him.

"Good morning! It's not like you to be up before me. I understand if you are having second thoughts about resigning. Our marriage will survive if you feel guilty leaving the President. It will just be a little harder on us. Other lovers have had to endure being separated."

"No second thoughts, that's behind us now," Drew said "No, I was thinking how lucky Noel and Scott are to have a family to raise. I know we both want children, and our line ends with us. We both love children and we have the means and the desire to raise them."

"I was planning to talk to you last night, before you attacked me. We have two possibilities to consider. I could marry Lenore Hart, and with the wonders of artificial insemination, she could bear our babies with the understanding that we raise them. The other alternative is to search for several suitable surrogate mothers. We won't have to marry the mothers. But I think we can work everything out. All it will take is money, and we have that. When you return, we are both going to make a trip to a sperm bank and make a few deposits. We can find the mothers and then in nine months, we'll have our babies."

"I was thinking of talking to Lenore about marrying me for appearance sake only. Lenore and Roberto can never marry and will never give each other up. So a marriage of convenience can be arranged with an escape clause for both of us. I've not worked out the fine points, but I feel Lenore will sign a premarital agreement. The marriage will give us both an out, and the respectability of having a legal marriage. What's to prevent us from proceeding with our second plan as well? If I know Lenore, she will do it just so she and Roberto can stay together. I know she has no interest in raising children. Her career, and Roberto, is more important to her. We only need her for window dressing once we have the children. I think four would be a nice round number.

"I have to put it all together legally. We don't want anyone to take the children away from us once we've started to raise them. I'm also going to take your name legally. I am changing my name to Duncan MacDonald Stevens, or Mac Stevens to my friends. It would be helpful for the children. I know the children will take on our characteristics and looks. We will raise them as a family. I like the arrangement that Noel and Scott have; each is married and each will have their own children to bring to the table. No one really cares why there is no mother. They will think only about two wonderful men taking on the responsibility of raising their children. No one will ever question the fact that we are lovers once I'm married."

"I like the idea, providing you can work everything out," Drew said. "We will make the deposit at the sperm bank as you suggested. You go ahead and search for suitable surrogate mothers, and don't limit your search to the USA only, don't forget we have our island with its own laws. Let me think about all the ramifications of a premarital contract with a suitable woman who we can trust, and also about Lenore Hart. I think you should marry Lenore, since you are almost engaged to her. I'm flattered that you want to take my name, you're always so thoughtful, that's why I love you so much. You can always change it to MacDonald-Stevens. You will inherit everything if anything happens to me anyway."

"That's sweet of you, Drew, but I don't think I'll have any use for your money in heaven. I've told you we are going to die together."

"You said we would talk about that. Is there something you would like to tell me, or do I have to wait until the end is upon us?" Drew said. "Not that I mind, it's nice to know we will be together forever, but I would like to know how you came to that conclusion."

"You're right," Mac said. "You know I receive these little glimpses into the future. Well this particular premonition had to do with our death. I don't know when, where, or if anyone else is with us, all I know is we are together in each other's arms when it happens. I didn't want say anything to you unless I knew more of the premonition. I do know we are not young anymore. Sometimes I receive little bits, but not always. I'm glad in a way, because I don't want to know anymore, but I have no control over these things."

"How long have you known this, Mac?"

"Since the day I woke up in your bed. I was confused at first, and frightened by this premonition. I didn't understand the significance of us being in each other's arms. All I knew then was we will die together. We weren't sad or frightened, that was the strange part; we were happy. It was not until we became lovers that I realized the significance of the dream. RW helped me to put everything into perspective. That's why I'm not afraid of being killed. Later, I also knew you were not going to die prematurely like the other males in your family. Anyway, I can't think of a better way to die, can you?"

"You came into my life in my arms, and we leave this life together the same way," Drew said. "I've come to believe in your premonitions. You have an extraordinary gift and you continue to amaze me."

"I thank God for you every day, Drew," Mac said. "I hope he gives us the time to finish our work here on earth and to raise our children to carry on with what we have begun."

He kissed Drew, "It's time to hit the showers and visit with our guests."

Mac had finished dressing. He walked into the den to fax all the documents to Barbara regarding Michael Lee. He read all of Drew's messages and answered what he could. As soon as Drew was ready, they went into the dining room for brunch.

Mac pulled Noel aside and asked him if he could visit him next week on a legal matter.

Noel told him, "If it's important, Mac, I can take the time now."

"Thanks anyway, but this is kind of personal and for your ears only. Look, you have enough on your mind today and you don't have time to listen to my problems on top of everything else. I would rather wait until next week if you can spare me some time. I need your sharp legal mind."

Noel said, "You've got it; next week it is."

Mac had another conference with Mike and they worked out their strategy for the upcoming weeks.

"I want you to complete the application papers and bring them to my apartment tomorrow morning at six; we can have breakfast together. I'll give you your computer, and the access codes you'll need, before you leave this afternoon. I would like you to find a good man to replace you after Noel is better. If Doug isn't the man for that job, try working with Chris or Kim to see if they know of anyone. I'm sure you know all about notebook computers and working on secure channels. Once Scott is home and you have completed your work there for the day, you can work with me for several hours every evening. You can study the dossiers on all my clients, and our agreements with the South American and German new ventures group. I want you to become familiar with them since you will be flying to both areas to find suitable housing and offices for our operations.

"You may want to check with my friend, Karl Landsdorf in Paris, who knows where all the bodies are buried. I'll leave that up to you. Drew has resigned from the President's committee and will be returning to New York within the month. By that time, you should be ready to work with me full time. If you have decided to include Doug in your plans, I will want to meet him in person. Do you have any questions so far, Mike?"

"You know I want to include Doug in my plans," Mike said, "but I haven't talked to him yet. I spent most of last night being overwhelmed by your offer and preparing a list of possible candidates for Noel's staff. I'll be meeting with one of the agents tomorrow. If he is amenable, I'll have him go over the list of candidates I've pulled together and let him check them out. If they are available, you can decide on the best choices, and we will interview them and give them the usual tests."

"Why don't you feel out Doug about working for us?" Mac asked. "If he's interested, tell him he would be reporting to you and working on several exciting projects, but I must have his answer as soon as possible. You know the type of person I want in my company. If Doug fits the profile, I want him. With Drew returning in a month, it will give me more time to concentrate on my own corporation. I'm going to push my own projects along at a much faster pace. Keep looking for good talent. I only want loyal, dedicated people. If Doug is interested, the company will pay all his expenses to come for an interview. I plan to talk Drew into flying back to Manhattan after lunch, so if Doug wants to make it today I will be available after five."

"I'll get right on it, Mac. Doug could be on assignment, but if he's in town I'll have our answer before you leave."

Scott and Noel decided to spend the rest of the day at the Retreat. Drew insisted that Scott keep him posted on Noel's condition. He told them Kim would arrange their transportation for them when they were ready to leave. Drew went to the den for his papers and computer and walked with Mac and Mike to the pad.

"Doug will meet you at your Penthouse at five this evening, Mac."

Mac patted Mike on the back and said, "Great. I'll let you know his answer tomorrow morning."

"I am pleased that you are working for Mac now," Drew said. "If you work hard and follow his lead, you will not be sorry."

"Yes, sir," Mike said. "Thank you for this great weekend, Mr. Stevens. You have both treated me like royalty. I can't thank you enough for everything."

"Mac is very important to me, Mike," Drew said. "He is the most important person in my life and one of my top executives. Mac is your boss and I never interfere in any of his decisions. However, I am ordering you to take every safeguard for his life. You are his chief of security and I expect you to find the best people money can buy to guarantee his safety. Mac forgets that he is a target, and would make an ideal hostage. He is no longer an anonymous executive, and he could fetch millions of dollars in ransom. You know your job and what you must do.

"Furthermore, you are to trust no one, except myself, my Mother, my sister, Jen, Rod Johnson and RW and anyone Mac vouches for," Drew said. "You are to coordinate your efforts with RW so we don't have a duplication of effort. RW always has a team watching me. Again, you must make up your own mind regarding any security arrangements when it concerns Mac; you have the final say on his security. RW already has a detail on Mac. However, from now on, you will assume that role. He will give you his full cooperation and give you the names of the people he has already cleared. If you suspect anything at all, and you can't reach Mac, you are to contact me first, then RW, or Chris. Do we have an understanding on this issue then?"

"Yes, sir. Mac has already instructed me to coordinate all security arrangements through RW and to use Chris as a backup," Mike said. "He has made me aware of your concerns for his safety and has agreed to follow all my requests regarding security matters."

Drew smiled, "I should have known your boss would not have left anything to chance. You know, Mike, I could develop an inferiority complex with our resident genius here."

Mike smiled, "Mr. Stevens, rest assured that I will take care of Mac. I don't plan to lose my meal ticket."

Drew smiled, and boarded the helicopter with Mac, as they took off to Manhattan.
