 Chapter 10
New Site, New Sight

Just before the rains came, Jerry pulled into a Wal-Mart parking lot and said, "There's a few things we need to get."

Kevin, who had been quietly relaxing but lost in his own thoughts of the dramatic turn of events in his life and in speculation on what the his future might be, said nothing but walked into the store with his grandfather.

Jerry led Kevin first to the boys clothing area and found a display of swim trunks. "No more skinny dipping," he whispered to Kevin. "You'll need something to wear in the pool at the resort. I've got mine in my duffle bag but I need to get a couple of other things. Pick one out that you like. I'll be right back."

Kevin was puzzled that they didn't stay together but busied himself looking through the assortment of swimming suits. Jerry, meanwhile, walked to the Pharmacy department. He wanted to get some condoms and KY because he anticipated that Kevin would want to engage in some really serious exploration of intimacy and he had certainly not prepared for such a development when he packed his things. He paid for them at the Pharmacy department so he could put them in a bag out of sight. He wanted to avoid Kevin's embarrassing questions as they checked out.

Returning to the boys department, he found Kevin had made his selection. "Like 'em?" Kevin asked.

"Yes, and they'll look even better with you in them," Jerry grinned.

Kevin grinned back but then said, "Condition one."

"Huh?" It took a moment for Jerry to realize that he had said something suspicious and that it might have been overheard. "Oh, you're absolutely right. My bad." While Jerry regretted his lapse of judgment, he added, "Thanks. I'm glad you remembered what I said. And I'm proud of you."

"What did you get?" Kevin asked innocently.

"Just some stuff we might need," Jerry replied. "Shall we check out and be on our way before the rain starts?"

By the time they reached the resort, the rain storm had passed on toward the east. Jerry was tense from driving through the rain that would occasionally severely diminish visibility of the road ahead. His eyes were strained, his shoulders and back were sore, and he was more than grateful to arrive at the resort safely.

As they approached the main lodge, Kevin exclaimed, "Wow!" upon seeing the massive, rustic building with individual cabins stretching down a side road into the woods.

As they walked through the lobby toward the registration desk, Kevin caught sight of the large indoor swimming pool on the other side of a glass wall at the rear of the lodge building and remarked, "That's bigger than the pool at the Y! Look! It even has two diving boards!"

"You can try out your new swim trunks as soon as we get settled in," Jerry said.

"I can? Don't you mean we can?"

"No, I'm going to soak in the hot tub for a while. I need to unwind from the drive and relax some sore muscles."

"They have a hot tub?" Kevin exclaimed. "Way cool!"

"How could a hot tub be cool?" Jerry asked with a grin.

"You know what I mean," Kevin replied indignantly.

The reservation clerk had them booked into Cabin 3, near the lodge building but Jerry asked if there was one further into the woods, near the trailhead. "Are you sure?" the clerk asked. "Most guests prefer to be the near the lodge and this one just came open."

"Quite sure," Jerry replied without explaining his reasoning.

"But sir," the clerk responded in a polite but somewhat officious tone, "there's only one large bed in that cabin."

"That's okay," Jerry replied. Then, to make a point, he added, "I'm sure my grandson and I will find it acceptable." Perhaps, Jerry thought, he had put just a little too much emphasis on 'grandson' but the clerk gave no sign of recognizing it.

It was a long walk to Cabin 37 from the Lodge parking lot but the cabin was very much to Jerry's liking -- away from the bustle of the Lodge, almost totally surrounded by trees, and an acceptable compromise between hotel-like comfort and the seclusion of nature's beauty. There was no TV in the cabin, only a radio. There was no tub in the bathroom, only a small shower stall. The furniture was spartan at best but the bed was queen-sized and would be, they both thought without comment, a primary focus for their enjoyment.

"Ah, here they are," Jerry said as he retrieved his swimming trunks from his duffle bag. "I'm going to the hot tub right away. What do you want to do?"

Kevin alternated his looks between the bed and Jerry with a wicked grin. "Not now, you horny toad," Jerry laughed.

Kevin pouted but mostly for show and said, "I guess I'll try the pool." With that, he pulled his new swimming trunks out of the shopping bag and started to strip.

He was just ready to put on his trunks when Jerry commanded, "Stop right there, young man!"

The forcefulness of his grandfather's voice caught Kevin by surprise and he just stood and stared at Jerry wondering what was wrong.

"You're beautiful," Jerry exclaimed quietly as he admired Kevin's youthful body. "There's not a single thing about you that I would want to change."

Kevin almost blushed at the compliment but turned around slowly to give his grandpa a longer, better view. "I know one thing you would like to change," he said.

"No. Kevin. Not a single thing."

"I'll betcha!" he dared. Grabbing his cock and waving it at Jerry, he said, "I'll betcha you'd like to change this from soft to hard."

"You're right, Kevin, I would. But later. I'll make it hard and then do what it takes to make it go soft again." Both then laughed.

Kevin knew by now not to challenge his grandpa's reluctance to have sex but also knew that there would be ample opportunity later. Therefore, he pulled up his swim trunks and sat on the bed to lustfully watch his grandpa undress, still amazed at the sight of a real naked man and at his good fortune to not only see it but to finally experience what he craved for so long.

They walked to the lodge wearing their swim trunks and shoes with a towel draped over their shoulders. Jerry directed Kevin to the back of the Lodge where they used a rear entrance to go into the pool area. Jerry said, "I'll be over there," pointing to the hot tub near the shallow end of the pool. Kevin walked toward the two diving boards at the far end. Jerry sank gratefully into the soothing hot water of the hot tub but positioned himself so that he could watch his grandson enjoy the pool.

Jerry had watched Kevin compete in several swim meets and had joined him at the pool in the Y several times but he now saw his grandson with new eyes. He was no longer a little boy; he was a young adult. He had outgrown the awkwardness that accompanies a young teen's growth spurt and was now fully in control of his body as he dove and swam. Thoughts of their illicit relationship only magnified Jerry's new perception of Kevin. Only a few days ago, he was a handsome teenager. Now, however, Jerry saw him as something quite different: a perfectly erotic young man.

In fact, Jerry thought enviously, there was a grace to his movements that had escaped his notice to this point. Was his love for and pride in his grandson distorting his perception? Or was he now simply paying more attention because of what was going on between them? Probably a little of both but even an unbiased observer, Jerry concluded, would admire Kevin. Surely the girls and some of the boys at school would take particular notice of how attractive he was. That thought reminded Jerry of Condition Three and he dreaded the end of their vacation together. Jerry then had to consciously remind himself that the relationship must end. It was the best thing he could do for Kevin.

Twenty minutes later, Jerry joined Kevin in the pool. They swam and dove. They splashed and dunked each other. Jerry was acting almost like a teenager, frivolous, laughing, and enjoying himself immensely. Since there were several other guests in the pool, they refrained from grab-assing and coping a feel although both were tempted.

Nearly an hour later, they both soaked in the hot tub. Kevin was enthusing about what a great time he had had in the pool. Since no one was nearby, Jerry bent over and whispered inconspicuously in Kevin's ear, "Was it the best time you've had so far?"

Kevin grinned and whispered back, "Second best. You should have known that."

"Just wait. There's more fun and adventure ahead of us."

Kevin flashed a wicked grin, thinking about the bed back in the cabin, and was surprised and disappointed to hear Jerry say, "While we're here, we can go hiking, horseback riding ... they even have a tennis court and we can rent some rackets. What would you like to do?"

Kevin recognized the teasing and said, "All that." Then, with a grin, he added conspiratorially, "And more."

Kevin then got out of the hot tub and headed for the pool again. Jerry followed but chose to sit in a deck chair at the side of the pool and admire his grandson. Once again, it was as if he was watching somebody he had never seen before, somebody whose personality, intellect, and body was the epitome of male perfection, somebody whose life lay before him with the promise of decades of achievement and satisfaction yet the threat of suffering from irrational discrimination. Jerry renewed his resolve to prepare his grandson for both.

To be continued...
