Chapter 5
{Authors note} Its been awhile but I had to re-read Luke and Gerry's journals that they had around the holidays, and no matter what year they were, it was the same story over and over by the two.
It started the day before Thanksgiving break at Crazy Horse when Mr. John Two Feathers called us into his office. I turned to Gerry and said," I bet it means that Edward will not be able to have us during Thanksgiving or Christmas". Mr. Two Feathers shocked us all by stating that as a Christmas present to Gerry, his father had signed all rights over to Edward. Not sure what that meant, we just sat there as Mr. Two Feathers also told us a story (I did not know if it was fact or fiction), and I have decided to share that story with you, dear diary.
They had just started the carving of the Crazy Horse Monument when this takes place, and a little background on the man that started it: Sculptor Korczak Ziolkowski and Lakota Chief Henry Standing Bear officially started Crazy Horse Memorial June 3, 1948. The Memorial's mission is to honor the culture, tradition, and living heritage of North American Indians.
Sorry, I need included some pictures that I located when I went back out to Crazy Horse. they are:
The Sculptor and his wife Ruth taken in 2007 at the Monument's 60th anniversary.
The entry sign to both the school and park.
This was taken in 2008. It's the Monument ablaze at night.
Now let's get back to the story as Mr. Two Feathers told it to the boys: There was a brave Indian brave that meet somebody and fell head over heals for this person only to have both fathers say, "We have no son by that name" but there were other family members who did care and followed the progress of these two young boys. I thought he was talking about Edward only to be shocked when he got on with the story and both of us where shocked.
The holidays vacation came up and neither myself nor William Sitting Eagle could believe it when William's brother, Thomas, or Tommy Listening Eagle came to the school to take the two of us back to (I included Thomas in full Indian Gear) Florida to enjoy the holidays with William's family ( they are Seminoles). We packed up just before the first snowstorm and were heading to Florida to be with other Indians that wanted us and where not ashamed that we cared for each other.
After listening to the story about Mr. Two Feathers and Mr. Sitting Eagle (who now taught in the upper school), it dawned on me that Luke and I were not so bad off as we had thought since we had Edward who wanted us and loved us unconditionally. Maybe what Mr. Two Feathers was trying to say was we did not have it as bad as Gerry, and I thought since we had Edward.
Sorry, brother but my time to send this message to all our readers from the Happy Hunting Ground. I wish you and yours a very Happy Holiday Season and please have a Safe New Year love Luke and Gerry.
We are going to be celebrating with you in spirit and trying to send Edward some healing vibes as my big brother has been ill since July.
To be continued...
Authors note: I have not been in the best of health fighting cancer but as my brother stated, Please Have a Happy and Safe Holiday Season.
