Chapter 69

He wiped his mouth then spit some blood onto the ground and fixed his tie. “What do I have to say for myself? Yuri, you lie with men and break Russian law. So I showed you what it’s really like to have a real man.”

Ivan was faster than I was and let ambassador have it again right in the mouth. “Rape my Yuri will you? I’ll see to it you die in Russian prison.”

I went over to the fallen man and he was out cold. Mikel pulled me back. “Let him lay there. He’ll wake up eventually.”

I looked at my watch and it was almost 5 so Bennie and I had to get back to the residence. “Mikel, I have to return to the residence. Yuri, we’ll see you again. Ivan, please don’t take the law into your own hands.”

I shook everyone’s hand and got a hug from Yuri and Ivan. “Take care and be safe Ace.” Yuri said then he kissed me on the cheek.

On the way back to the residence, Bennie was extremely quiet. I’ve learned to read him during our time together so I pretty much knew what was on his mind. After I parked the Hummer, we got out and headed for the elevator. As soon as we walked in, Bennie took hold of my hand and held onto it like it was a life line. “How can someone be so cruel baby?”

“I wish I knew. I bet he’s gang raped in prison too.”

“Good, it serves him right.”

The elevator doors opened then we headed down to Bennie’s room so we could get cleaned up.

Over at Blair house, Ivan was on the phone with the Russian embassy. He was giving someone a real ass chewing about the Ambassador. After an animated call, Ivan was assured it would be handled.

I took my shirt and vest off then got a clean tee shirt. I was about to drop my trousers when there was a knock on the door. Bennie went over to see who it was. “What’s up Dad?”

“Don’t forget to pack clothes for a week. We’re leaving for California in the morning.”

“Are we staying at our house?” Bennie asked excitedly like a little boy.

“Yes we are. The advanced team is opening it up and getting it ready.”

“Will be going to Andrews in Marine 1 sir?” I asked.

Ben nodded his head. “Yes, the limo is being taken to California as is the Hummer along with another vehicle.”

I’m glad there was another armored vehicle here in case. I had to do some thinking on security. Since the President and Bennie would have to get into the courthouse, I wanted to know about the entrances. I sent an email to the advance team so they could check that out and have plans in place.

There was a knock on the door so I went to see who it was. Housekeeping was there with my clean laundry to I held the door open so they could set it on the bed. When they were finished I got my bag so I could pack for the trip. I got my bag packed then just had to wait for my suits. I had several clean ones in my wardrobe so I packed a couple of them and now I was ready to go. I was about to go into Bennie’s room when my cell rang. “Mason.”

“Agent Mason, is someone supposed to be picking up your Hummer?”

“Yes they are. It’s going out to California so they have to load it with the beast.”

“Alright, I’m just checking to be sure,” he said then ended the call.

I was still wondering what the other vehicle was coming with us.

I went into Bennie’s room and his bag was on the bed ready to go so I tossed that into my room beside mine on the bed. I saw the time and it was close to dinner so Bennie and I got cleaned up.

Chris and Ben were in the dining room. “Love, you’re coming with us.”

“Ben, I don’t want to be in the way and besides, what would people think?”

“It’s California so they won’t think anything and you won’t be in the way. I’ve grown used to having someone sleeping with me at night.”

“Just remember, I have to return to Seattle soon.”

Ben leaned over and kissed him on the lips. “I know and I’ll really miss you.”

“I’ll miss you too but I can’t wait to start college.”

Ben took Chris’s hand and gave it a little squeeze. “I want you to study hard and make good grades.”

Chris smiled. “Don’t worry about that, I really want to become a doctor.”

Bennie chimed in, “I’ll have free medical care.”

“Only if you’re a child,” Chris added. “Remember, I want to become a Pediatrician.”

“Then you can take care of our child.”

Chris smiled. “Now that I’ll gladly do.”

Just then Gloria came in with dinner. We had her Mexican fiesta and I stuffed myself silly. After dinner, Bennie and I had a quiet night in bed watching television. I heard a knock on the door then a head appeared, “Ace where can we put our bags?”

“Put them on the bed beside mine and Bennie’s.”

Dusty left then we went back to cuddling. “Ace, you don’t think a judge will force me to see her, will he?”

“I don’t know love. Just agree you’ll see her as often as you can, it’s all you can do.”

“I’m not giving my free time up just to shag ass out there.”

“I know baby,” I said kissing him on the cheek as he cuddled closer.

A good movie came on that we both liked so that’s how we spent the rest of the night. After the movie ended, we did our nightly business then returned to the bed for some much needed sleep.

The next morning, I was awake at 7 so I got up and took a shower and put on a clean suit. I noticed my dry cleaning was back hanging in my wardrobe. I went back to Bennie’s room and put my weapon on then went out to the dining room. “Good morning Sir.”

“Good morning Ace, are you and Bennie packed?”

“Yes Sir, our bags are on my bed.

I fixed a cup of coffee then put them out beside the elevator. I put Dusty’s and JR’s with the others too.

I stuck my head in Bennie’s room and saw he was up so I returned to the dining room. I guzzled down my coffee then fixed another cup. “Is Bennie up yet?” Ben asked.

“He’s in the shower. What time will Marine 1 be here?”

“It’s scheduled to touch down at 9:55 for the short flight to Andrews.”

“Have the vehicles left for California yet?” I asked.

“They should be on their way by now.”

My cell chirped so I looked to see what had arrived. It was a message from the advance team. The courthouse has a secured area for us and there will be extra security on hand. I told Ben about the message and he said, “I want the press kept away. This is a private matter and not one for the public.”

I sent a reply to the email letting them know the President’s wishes. I was about to take a sip of my coffee when the chime rang. “Now who can this be at this hour?”

I got up and walked down to see who it was. I saw Isaac standing there. “Yes Isaac, what can I do for you?”

“Let me in.” He said pulling on the door that was still locked.

“You better have a very good reason for being here at this hour.”

“I need to talk to the President.”

I decided to let him in so Ben could rip his ass. “You do realize we’re about to eat our breakfast and he doesn’t like having his meals disturbed.”

“I can’t help this.” He said as he stood and waited for me to lead the way to the dining room.

I returned to the dining room and Bennie had a cup of coffee waiting on me. “What is so important my meal is interrupted?”

“I got wind from my news contacts they will be covering the trial.”

“Now how did they know this?” Ben asked as he ate.

“I don’t know sir but all the major networks will have crews there.”

“They’ll be kept a safe distance away,” I said diving into my food.

“They’re not going to like this.”

Ben slammed his fork down on the table. “I don’t care what they like or don’t like. My private life is just that, PRIVATE!” Do you understand me Isaac?”

“Yes Sir,” Isaac said softly then turned to leave. “I’ll see you on Air Force One, Mr. President.”

I got up and escorted him to the door. “You better be on Marine 1 or you’ll be left behind,” I said as he exited.

He just kept walking so I closed the door and returned to my breakfast. After we ate, Dusty and JR arrived. We sat and talked until it was about time to leave. I got Ben, Bennie and Chris and the group of us walked over to the west wing. I saw several agents in a discussion with some members of the press. “Listen, you’ve been told you’re not accompanying the President so the matter is closed.”

“Oh yeah, we have a right to go with him,” a bitchy reporter shouted.

“Do you now? I asked walking over to her.

“We do, we have a first amendment right to go.”

“And we have the right to revoke your White House credentials then where would you be?”

“You wouldn’t dare!” she spat.

“Lady,” I started. “Don’t push your luck.”

I noticed the time so I turned and left her. Marine 1 had touched down and our luggage was being loaded. A Marine came up to us and saluted. “Mr. President, we’re ready for you to board Sir.”

The agents surrounded Bennie and Ben then we walked out to the helicopter. We were about to board when that bitchy reporter came charging at us. JR turned and charged her taking her off her feet. I turned around and walked over to her. “Cuff her,” I said.

JR got her into cuffs. “Now what Ace?”

“Turn her over to another agent, revoke her credentials then have her escorted to her car.”

JR led her over to an agent standing by the door then trotted over to the helicopter. “I’m sorry Mr. President,” JR said taking his seat.

The crew chief made his walk around then climbed aboard and closed the door. The engines started and we lifted off for the short flight over to Andrews. Bennie and Chris were like little boys as they tried to see everything out the windows. The flight was uneventful and all too soon, we were landing at Andrews. The helo taxied over by Air Force One then the engines were shut down. We had to wait a few minutes for the rotors to stop spinning then the crew chief opened the door and walked down letting us know we could get off. Ben and Bennie walked down followed by Chris and me, then the other agents. The Marine was saluting Ben as he came down the steps and Ben returned the salute. As soon as Ben and Bennie were on the ground they were surrounded by Dylan and his team. We escorted them over to Air Force One and they quickly climbed the steps then boarded the plane. The agents boarded the plane and the door was closed. “Ace, where can we store these?”

Dylan was holding his AR-15. I took him to the weapons locker and opened it for him. “They can go in here. Only certain agents have the combination so let me know so I can open it for you when we land in California.”

“Thanks buddy.”

“Good morning everyone, this is your captain speaking. Would everyone please take their seats as we’re ready for takeoff.”

We took our seats then I heard the engines whine as we started to taxi to the runway. I knew from previous flights that we were first up for takeoff so we wouldn’t be stopping. I watched as we taxied out then felt the plane make the turn onto the runway. The pilot pushed the throttles forward and the massive jet engines started to roar as we sped down the runway. We lifted off then we were clear to walk around the plane. A steward came over with a tray and asked, “Would you care for some coffee?”

I gladly accepted then had my refreshment. Bennie looked like he was fighting sleep. I saw him get up and head over to Ben’s office. I had just finished my coffee and watched as once again, Isaac played screener for anyone wanting to see Ben. Bennie went to knock on Ben’s door when Isaac grabbed his hand. “What do you want?”

Bennie took exception to this and put Isaac against the wall with his forearm across his throat. “Don’t you ever put your hands on me again! DO YOU READ ME?”

I got up and hurried over. I put my hand on Bennie’s shoulder. “Let him go love.”

“Baby, I’m tired of this shit with him.”

Just then, Ben came out of his office. “Bennie, back off.”

“Dad, you better deal with him. I’m tired of having to explain myself when I want to talk to you.”

Ben started to walk over. “Sir, Isaac brought this on himself, I saw it.”

Ben nodded his head then I went to get Bennie off Isaac. Bennie moved back then Isaac mumbled, “You’ll get yours for this.”

Bennie heard it and he once again had Isaac against the wall. “Spit it out louder.”

“I don’t know what you mean.”

“Repeat it.” Bennie growled.

“Repeat what?”

I put my arm around Bennie and eased him back. Ben went over and looked at his son. “In my office now.”

I was on Bennie’s heels as he went inside. “Sir, Isaac made a threat towards Bennie and I heard it.”

“What did he say Ace?”

“He told Bennie he’s get his for this.”

Ben saw red. “Isaac IN MY OFFICE NOW.”

There was a light tap on the door so I opened it. “Y-y- you want to see me Mr. President?”

Isaac was still outside so I had to hold the door open.

“Get in here.”

He finally entered then I closed the door. He was shocked when he saw me standing behind him.

“Now, repeat what you said to Bennie out there and don’t tell me you didn’t say anything.”

“I don’t know what you mean.”

I looked at Ben and basically asked for permission to deal with this. He nodded his head so I stepped in front him. “Cut the crap Isaac, I heard it. I don’t take kindly people threatening by partner.”

“I don’t know what you think you heard but I didn’t say anything.”

“That cuts it. Isaac, I’ve taken your stuff for a long time but this time you over stepped your bounds.”

“Sir, you have work to do,” Isaac said trying to defend himself.

“WHAT THE HELL HAVE I TOLD YOU?” Ben growled.

“But Sir,” Isaac started.

“SILENCE!” Ben bellowed.

“When we get to Sacramento, you’ll have to find your own way back to DC. You’re services are no longer needed.”

Isaac looked down and became contrite. “I apologize Mr. President. I’m sorry you’re no longer pleased with my work.”

“It’s not your work I’m not pleased with.”

Bennie was standing there glaring at Isaac. He walked over and got into Isaac’s face. “Listen you Attila the Hun, you’ve kept me from my dad long enough. When I was little, I believed you when you said he was too busy to see me but now, you’re just a prick and I’m not taking it any longer.” Bennie said the opened the door and point for him to get out.

Bennie closed the door then Ben went over to him. “Bennie, just what do you think you were doing?”

“Dad, he started it.”

“Son, I don’t like you putting your hands on the staff.”

“Does that hold true for them also?” Bennie asked.

“Well, yes it does.”

“Then why did Isaac have to put his hands on me?”

“He did what?”

I stepped in then. “That’s right Sir. Bennie went to knock on your door and Isaac grabbed Bennie by the wrist and asked him what did he want.”

“I know you’ve told Isaac not to do that but it seems he does what he wants.”

Ben sighed. “Yeah, you’re right about that. I can’t tolerate a member of my staff who can’t follow my orders.

“Who will you get to replace him?” I asked.

“I haven’t a clue right now. I have a few people in Sacramento who worked on my campaign. I know someone who would make a good chief of staff.”

“Do you suppose you could contact him and see if he’d be interested?”

Ben smiled at me. “This person is female.”

“Does Bennie know her?” I asked.

“He does but it’s been a number of years since he’s last seen her so he might not remember her. It’s 8:30 there so she’s probably awake. I’ll give her a call and see what she says. Tell Bennie I’m not upset with him.”

I headed for the door. “I’ll do that Sir.”

When I stepped out of the office, I was confronted by Isaac. “Well, you got me fired. I hope you’re happy.”

I walked away from him. “You did that yourself when you put your hand on Bennie. You just didn’t expect him to stand his ground. Now, where do you get off threatening him?

“He will get his all in good time.” He said.

I turned around and grabbed him by his jacket. “Listen you ass wipe, no one threatens Bennie. If you try to hurt him, I will use every means at my disposal to protect him and that includes using deadly force if it comes to that.”

Isaac saw the fire in my eyes so he backed off. “Fine, just keep him away from me.”

“Don’t you worry about that; those words hold true for you too. Now, go find a seat in the press area and stay there.”

Isaac stormed off and I went into the galley. Bennie was in there nursing his wounds eating some fried chicken and having a soda. I went up behind him and kissed him on the cheek. “You dad said to tell you, he’s not upset with you for defending yourself. You did good love.”

Bennie kissed me and I got a chicken flavored kiss. “I’m not going to forget what he said love.”

“I don’t want you to either, that means you’d drop your guard.”

Bennie gave me one of his looks. “I also had a little chat with Isaac and I put the fear of god in him.”

Bennie wiped his hands then stood up and gave me a huge hug as a steward entered. “He’s my man.”

“That’s some man you have Sir.”

“I know it and he’s all mine.” Bennie said showing off his ring.

“Congratulations to you both. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have meals to get ready.”

Bennie took me by the hand and we back into the main cabin. We went to the sofa and sat down then Bennie snuggled close to me. I got comfortable then nodded off. Sometime later, Bennie was shaking me. “Love, lunch is ready.”

I opened my eyes and tried the clear the cobwebs so I could move. “Are you coming too love?”

“I’m full.” He answered.

I made my way to the dining room and sat down. Lunch was a fine meal of fresh fried chicken, a vegetable and potato salad. After lunch, Ben called me into his office. “Ace, I contacted the person we talked about and she’ll be glad to take the position.”

“Has she been vetted?”

“Yes but I’ll put a call into the FBI so they could pull her file.”

“Will she take over when we land?”

“Yes, she’ll meet us at the house.”

“I better call the advance team so they won’t think she’s a prowler or there to do you harm.”

“This is the Captain speaking. We’re on final approach so everyone needs to be in their seats with their seatbelts fastened securely.” Bennie and I went over to our seats and got ready to land.

The landing was smooth and soon we were taxiing to a secured area. We pulled to a stop and the engines shut down then the steps were brought up to the door. I got up and opened the door and saw the vehicles in place. The Hummer was the lead vehicle then came the beast followed by the Black Hummer of the Counter Assault Team.

Agents were standing at the bottom of the steps waiting on Ben, Bennie and Chris to deplane. I went inside and got them. “Sir, we’re ready.”

Dusty, Johnny, JR and I got into position then we walked down the steps. Agents held the back door open then we got Ben, Bennie and Chris into the limo. When I got on the ground, I spotted two motorcycle officers in front of the Hummer. The bags were unloaded and put into the limo then we were ready to leave. I drove the Hummer and Dylan rode with me. I started the engine then turned on the lights and we were on our way. It took us about thirty minutes to make the trip to Ben’s residence and members of the Counter Assault Team (CAT) were there waiting for us to arrive.

Dusty and I got a briefing from the team then we got settled into the house. The team had installed cameras so we had eyes on the property from all angles. “Ace, can you come up here?” I heard Ben ask.

I climbed the stairs and found him in the sitting room. “Yes Sir?”

“You and Bennie will have the same rooms as before.”

I nodded then thought. “Sir, I don’t think that’s what Bennie had in mind. I’d venture to guess he’ll want us to sleep together.”

Ben smiled, “That’s fine with me. Come on and we’ll meet the rest of the staff.”

The one thing I was wondering was who was going to cook for us since Gloria was back at the residence. I checked the clock on the wall and it was a little after 11am. “Agent Mason, there is someone here to see you.”

“Copy that, I’m on my way out.”

I walked outside and saw a woman standing there talking to one of the CAT (Counter Assault Team). “I’m agent Mason, how may I help you?”

“My name is Winnie Davis; I’m here to see President Jacobs about his Chief of Staff.”

“One moment,” I said then went inside to talk to Ben.

Ben was in his room getting unpacked. “Sir, there is a Winnie Davis downstairs here to see you.”

“Ah good, show her to my office please.”

“Yes sir, right away.” I said as I headed back outside.

I went and brought our guest inside and escorted her to Ben’s office. I knocked then heard a voice, “Come in.”

“Mr. President, this is uh, I’m sorry I didn’t get your name.”

The woman extended her hand and I shook it. “Winnie Davis.”

“Nice to meet you Ms. Davis,” I replied.

I left the two of them to talk then went to find Bennie. I went upstairs and found him in his room. “Hey love, what are you doing?”

“Just getting unpacked. It feels good to be back here but I’m glad Nate’s not here this time.”

I went over and hugged him. “You won’t have to worry about that.”

“Yeah and you can sleep in here with me too.”

I looked at the door. “I think I can take the locks off the doors too.”

“Nah, don’t bother,” Bennie said. “It gives us the privacy we need.”

“Alright love,” I answered as I went over to my room.

When I went in, I didn’t see my bags. I looked in the wardrobe and Bennie had unpacked for me.

Down in Ben’s office, he and Winnie were chatting like old friends. “So what have you been up to Winnie?”

“Nothing much,” Willie replied. “I retired from the DA’s office after the election and have a small law practice.”

“Is it keeping you busy?”

“It pays the bills but things are slow right now.”

“Have you given my offer some thought?”

Winnie sat there looking at Ben. “You can imagine my shock when you called this morning. I’d always thought Isaac would be your Chief of Staff.”

“Well, he’d thought he was irreplaceable. He learned otherwise this morning too.”

Winnie’s eyes got big. “Oh my, he must have really crossed the line.”

“He did and I’d told him about it several times too but he just never got the message.”

“Ben, I always enjoyed working with you so to have his opportunity present itself, I’m really flattered.”

“So can I take that as a yes?” Ben asked.

Winnie stood and extended her hand. “I’d love to take this role on. When do I start?”

Ben smiled. “Well, there’s no time like the present. Come on and I’ll introduce you.”

Ben pushed a button on his intercom. “Ace, can you and Bennie come down here please?”

Bennie and I headed downstairs then I saw Ben and Winnie come out. “Oh my, is this Bennie?”

Bennie stopped and looked at the woman. “Winnie, is that you?”

“It’s nice that you remember me. You have really grown into a young man.”

I got the agents into the living room and Ben made the introduction. After that was done, we went back to our routine. Ben and Winnie returned to his office to discuss some things. “Ben, I should let you know now your mother-in-law came to see me back in April and I refused to take the case.”

“Thank you for letting me know this Winnie but how did she manage to get the case together, filed and on the docket so quickly?”

“I don’t know. The courts are backlogged so how it was done so fast is a mystery.”

“Do you think she has a chance in winning?”

“Well, that all depends. How old is Bennie?”

“He’s 17 and he’s in a civil union.”

“Well, in the eyes of the law, he’s an adult. I don’t see a judge forcing an adult into a visitation order. I think we should move for a dismissal without prejudice.”

“I think that sounds like a good course of action.”  Ben said then picked up his phone. “I’d like you to explain this to Adam Graham. He’s co-counsel. But I want you to sit as counsel too.”

“This could prove interesting. She’ll think you brought out all of the hired guns.”

“Well, in a sense, I did,” Ben replied smiling as there was a knock on his door. “Come in.”

The door opened and in walked Adam. “Yes Sir, you wished to see me?”

“Ah Adam, come in. I’d like you to meet Winnie Davis. She’s accepted the position as my Chief of Staff.”

“Welcome aboard. Weren’t you the District Attorney?”

“Yes I was. After the election, I decided it was time to retire.”

“Adam, Winnie has come up with a plan for the case tomorrow.” Ben started. “She feels it would be best to go for an outright dismissal.”

“Without prejudice, I would assume.” Adam added.

“That’s correct,” Winnie answered. “The reason for this is because Bennie is an adult and no judge would try to write case law by forcing an adult to visit someone, especially when they live on two different coasts.”

“Winnie, one thing I’ve learned is never under estimate a judge. But I do hope you’re right. I can say this however, if the case goes against The President, I’m prepared to take this to the Supreme Court.”

“You think the justices would overturn the ruling?”

“I do because they’re not ones to see case law written in this fashion.”

Winnie was thinking about what Adam had said. The rest of the afternoon, Bennie and I were upstairs cuddling. By early evening we were all pretty tired as our body clock was still on east coast time.

Ben told us that court started at 9:30 so we would have to be ready to leave by 8:30. Bennie and I watched television then that was all I remember. My body clock had me awake at 0630 so I eased out of bed and took care of my morning business. I got my vest on then put my white shirt and tie on next. I put my weapon on my belt then went downstairs. I smelled the coffee so I followed my nose. I got a cup and had my morning wake up. “Good morning Agent Mason.”

“Good morning, what time is breakfast?” I asked.

“Are we hungry?” The chef asked.

“No, I just need to know when to wake Bennie.” I answered.

“Breakfast will be in about an hour.”

“Thanks,” I answered then finished my coffee.

I got my second cup then went to wake Bennie. Bennie was still sound asleep so I had to shake him firmly. “Come on love, wake up.”

“Oh baby, do I have to?” Bennie moaned.

“Come on baby.” I said again shaking his shoulder.

“Aww,” Bennie whined again so I yanked the covers down.

“Alright love, I’m awake.” Bennie moaned as he sat up.

I did my job so I returned to the kitchen for another cup of coffee. “Morning Ace,” Ben said as I walked in.

“Morning Sir, Bennie is up.”

“Good, did he give you a problem?”

I smiled. “No more than usual.”

The chef set my coffee cup down at my place so I took a mouthful. I sat and talked with Ben about the day’s activities.

Bennie came in so I got him his morning coffee. “Morning love,” I said giving him a kiss on the cheek.”

“Ungh,” he moaned as he sipped his first cup of wake up.

“Did you have a rough night son?” Ben asked.

“No Dad, still tired. We watched television until we fell asleep.”

The agents started making their way in then breakfast was served. As soon as I was finished, I talked with Dylan about the trip to the courthouse. “Ace, when we head inside, my guys will form a circle around Ben and Bennie.”

“Good, the rest of the team will put them in an inner circle.”

“Good idea. The advance team will keep the press at bay.”

“Good, we don’t need them starting anything.” I said. “I want eyes looking for Brenda too.”

“Already been handled,” Dylan answered.

“When we get inside the courtroom, I want Bennie surrounded by agents in the gallery.” I said.

“How’s this,” Dylan started. “We’ll have three agents in front of him, one on each side and three behind him.”

“Works for me,” I agreed.

At 8:15 then agents started getting everything ready for the drive to the courthouse. As I was checking the Hummer, I saw four motor officers from CHP pull up. Dylan came over to me and said, “They said it wouldn’t take more than thirty minutes to make the trip to the courthouse.”

“Alright, we’ll leave about 8:45.” I answered.

At the appointed time, we got Ben and Bennie into the limo then I went to the Hummer. We started our engines then turned our lights on then it was off to the courthouse.

The trip went smoothly and was without incident. When we arrived, we were led to the underground parking. Dylan’s men bailed out of their Hummer then went to the limo. One of his men opened the back door then waited for Ben and Bennie to exit. They had them encircled and waited while we parked the vehicles. I parked the Hummer then hurried over to the others.

The elevator doors were open so we headed to the courtroom. There were people milling about and they quickly moved out of the way as we headed to the courtroom. Dylan found the room then entered while we waited. Some of the advance team were waiting and they gave Dylan the all clear. We entered then took our seats. Ben, Adam and Winnie went through the rail and sat at the defense table. I looked at the clock and it was 9:25 so we all got seated and ready for the session to begin.

The door to the courtroom opened and right away I heard Brenda’s mouth flapping. “Now you listen here, I want my rights and one way or another” She was rattling.

“Then we heard, “All rise, this court is now in session. The Honorable Judge Milton Reeves presiding.”

Brenda kept running her mouth as the bailiff called the court to session. Judge Reeves came out of his chambers and climbed the steps to the bench and Brenda was still flapping her gums. “I do hope I’m not interrupting you madam,” Judge Reeves said looking down on them.

“Ah, no Your Honor,” Her lawyer said trying to save face but it wasn’t working.

“Is this how you conduct yourself in court counselor?”

“No Your Honor, my apologies,” he said as he took his place.

Brenda finally shut up when Judge Reeves banged his gavel. “Alright bailiff, I think we can proceed. What is the first case this morning?”

“Your Honor, this is Brenda Schultz vs. Benjamin Jacobs. She’s claiming alienation of affection between her and her grandson.”

Judge Reeves lowered his glasses and looked over the top of them at Brenda. “Madam, this is a first. Are we ready to proceed?”

“Yes, Your Honor, Larry Smith representing the plaintiff Brenda Schultz.”

“I hope you know what you’re doing counselor.”

“Then Ben stood. “Your Honor, Benjamin Jacobs attorney for the defense.”

“Good morning Mr. President.”

“Adam Graham, co-counsel for the defense.”

“Good morning Sir.”

“Winifred Davis, co-counsel for the defense.”

“Nice to see you again Ms. Davis.”

“Thank you Your Honor. If I might, I would like to put a motion before the court.”

“May I see..” The judge started but didn’t get the chance to finish what he was saying.

“Objection.” Mr. Smith shouted causing the judge to stare at him.

“Based on what, counselor?” Judge Reeves barked.

“Relevance,” Mr. Smith answered.

“If I might have a moment to look at it, I’ll rule on your objection.”

“Yes Your Honor,” Smith said then sunk back into his seat.

Judge Reeves sat back and started reading the brief handed to him by Winnie. After several minutes he sat up and looked out at Winnie. “Is this information correct, Ms. Davis?”

“Yes Your Honor,” she replied as she stood before him.

I could tell, the judge wasn’t pleased at what he just read. We sat there waiting for the judge to finish reading the brief then he sat up and removed his glasses. “Mr. Smith, your objection is over ruled.”

“But Your Honor.” He whined.

He waved his hand. “Mr. Smith, I’m surprised you didn’t do your homework better before bringing this law suit. Mr. Jacobs Jr. please stand.”

Bennie stood and watched the judge. “Young man, is it true you’re 17 years old and in a civil union?”

Bennie looked at me then back to the judge and smiled. “I am Your Honor.”

This revelation didn’t sit well with Brenda. “Wait, I object.”

“Sit down Madam or I’ll find you in contempt.”

“I’ll not sit down. I want that union over turned. I didn’t agree to it. I demand my rights.”

“You asked for it,” Judge Reeves said. “You’re in contempt and it will cost you $150.00. If you interrupt again, the fine will double and you’ll be risking jail time.”

Smith pulled her by the arm back into her seat. “Now sit here and be quiet.”

“I told you, DO YOUR JOB.”

“I’m trying. Now; be quiet.” Smith said very firmly.

“Ms. Davis, I’m prepared to rule on your motion. You’ve made some very interesting points and one is that to force an adult into a visitation order, is not what the judicial system is for.”

“I do hereby dismiss this suit with prejudice.” Judge Reeves said then banged his gavel. “This court is adjourned.”

Brenda jumped up and tried to charge Bennie but we were all ready for it and so was Bennie. He put his hands up to defend himself. “Back off grandma.”

“You think you’ve won don’t you?”

We got everyone together then left the courtroom. When we got to our vehicles we headed out and back to the house. We had to pack before we could head for Air Force One.

Thirty minutes later, we were back at the house. We went about getting packed and the advance team stayed behind and closed the place up. Winnie went to her apartment and packed some of her things so she could come to Washington with us. Ben put in a call to the pilot and told him we’d be ready to leave in two hours.

When Bennie and I were upstairs packing he came in and sat on my bed. “Love, can I ask you something?”

I saw the look on his face and that told me this was serious. “Sure baby, ask away.”

“Where are we going to live?”

“Where do you want to live?”

“With you,” Bennie answered.

“I know that my love but have you thought of some place in particular?”

I saw him thinking. “I don’t know. I’ll think about it.”

I leaned over and kissed him gently then finished packing. I was bringing my bag downstairs when Winnie came back. “You didn’t have much to pack did you?” I asked.

“I did but I did it yesterday after Ben’s call.”

“Will your moving to DC create a problem with your landlord?”

“Not at all, I own my own condo. I’ll lease it out.”

“You have thought of everything,” I said.

“I try to,” Winnie answered. “If I might ask, why did Isaac get canned?”

“It seems that every time we’re on Air Force One, he guards the door to the President’s office and then wants to give people the third degree if they want to talk to him?”

“Man, he was playing with fire,” Winnie added.

“That he was and The President had told him many times to knock it off but he never got the message.”

“Well, you won’t have to worry about that with me, Agent Mason.”

“Thank you; that will make my job a lot easier.”

Just then I heard a knock on my door. “Ace, are you and Bennie ready to go?”

“Almost Sir,” I answered.

“Alright, we need to get moving,” Ben replied. “Winnie, are you ready to go too?”

“Yes Mr. President. I packed last night.”

“I’ll get you settled into your apartment as soon as we get back to DC.”

“Thank you Sir,” Winnie replied.

Dylan stopped by next. “Ace, are you ready?”

I tossed the last few items I had into my bag and closed it. “Yeah man, I’m ready.”

We got our things out to the vehicles then it was time to head to the airport. We got Ben and Bennie into the limo then we were off. We had an easy drive to the airport and as soon as we arrived, we quickly got on board then the vehicles were loaded onto the cargo plane. As soon as the agents were on board, the door was closed then the engines were started. We taxied out and were first up for takeoff. We made the turn off the tarmac onto the runway then the engines went to full power as we sped down the runway then lifted off into the sky.

Bennie and I were sitting together then it dawned on me that we had a lot of things to do when we got back. Bennie looked up at me. “What’s wrong love?”

I shook my head. “Nothing love, I just remembered we’re going to have a busy day tomorrow.”

“Oh, what do we have to do?”

“Getting you ready for the start of classes,” I answered.

“Already?” Bennie almost whined.

“Yeah, August is almost gone.”

“So what do we have to do?”

“Well, we have to get your car registered with the university so you can park. Then check out your classes and get you your books and supplies.”

“Will the scholarship cover that?” Bennie asked.

I had to think. “I think so baby.”

We kicked back and enjoyed the quiet flight. Bennie and I were chatting when a steward came by and offered us a sandwich. The sandwich hit the spot as it had been several hours since we had breakfast. I had stuffed the last bite into my mouth when the steward offered me another which I gladly accepted. As we got closer to DC, I called the office and had them bring the backup limo to Andrews.

When I ended the call, I went to the flight deck and asked how far behind us the cargo plane was and they told me we were about an hour ahead of them.

I returned to my seat and sat beside Bennie and relaxed. Before I knew it we were on final approach and were touching down at Andrews. As we zipped past the hanger, I spotted Marine 1 so I knew how we’d be getting back to the White House. We taxied to the hangar then the engines shut down. The steps were brought over then we got Ben and Bennie then deplaned. We took them over to Marine 1 then we took our seats. A few minutes later, the engines were being started and we lifted off for the trip back to the White House.

As we were getting ready to land, I noticed a large crowd mingling on the lawn. I watched as agents got them behind the taped off area. When the engines had stopped, the door opened and the crew chief exited. We got Ben and Bennie ready then they went down the steps. We had them surrounded for the short walk to the White House. We were almost there when some woman made a mad dash for us. I spotted her. “Look alive guys!” I said.

Two agents managed to tackle her then she was led off. We entered the White House and it was good to be back home. Ben wanted to go to the residence so Dusty and I escorted them. Chris came up beside me. “Son, when do you have to head back to Seattle?” I asked.

“The day after tomorrow. I wish I didn’t have to leave.”

I wrapped my arm around him. “I know buddy but college awaits you.”

That brought a huge smile to his face. “I know and I’m really looking forward to starting too.”

“Good luck and I wish you the best.”

“You and Bennie will get out to visit, won’t you?”

“As often as we can son,” I answered.

As soon as we entered the residence, my cell rang. “Mason.”

“Hi Ace, we’re on the ground. We’ll get the limo and your Hummer back to the residence.”

“Thanks man,” I said then ended the call.

I looked at the clock then reset my watch. It was 3:45pm so there was time before Gloria would have dinner ready. I went over to my room and dug out some material I had back when I was a student at Georgetown. I folded it up and put in my suit jacket then went to talk to Bennie. “Love, do you still have the email with your schedule?”

“Yeah, I was just looking at it.”

“I need you to print it out so we will be able to get your books and supplies.”

After we do that, what else will we have to do?”

“You’ll need to learn what buildings your classrooms are in.”

“Did you say buildings?”

“That I did. There are many buildings that hold classrooms.”

“How will I ever learn it?”

“Just like you did in high school.”

After dinner Bennie and I talked about the things we had to do the next day. I figured we could get the majority of it done before noon if we got a decent start so after breakfast, we took off in Bennie’s car to the university. I made careful calculations on how long it would take to drive to the school in the morning so Bennie wouldn’t be late to his first class of the day.

Our first stop was to campus security to get the car registered. I had all the documents they would need so we found a place to park then entered. “Yes sir, what can I do for you?” The officer asked.

“We need to register his car,” I replied.

He held his hand out then looked at the registration. “Do you have his Student ID?”

“We haven’t got that far yet,” I answered.

Bennie pulled out his class schedule and handed it to the officer. While he was doing this Bennie and I sat and waited. The officer came up to the counter. “Here you go. You can park in designated lots only.”

We left and headed over to the main administration building. Our next stop was to get Bennie’s student ID card. It only took a few minutes to get that done then it was on to the book store.

There was a very helpful staff at the store and soon, Bennie had all the supplies he needed for his first semester. “Ace how am I going to carry all of these?”

“You don’t baby, you take what you need to your class and leave the rest in your car.”

“Won’t they get stolen?”

“That’s why you have a trunk to keep your things hidden, and they have campus security. Plus your car has a state of the art alarm system that notifies me if there is someone messing with it.”

I helped Bennie get his supplies out to the car then we called it a morning and returned to the residence for lunch. On the way to the residence, I looked at Bennie’s schedule. “Classes start next Monday baby.”

Our first stop was to Bennie’s room so we could put his books on his shelves. Bennie grabbed one of his books and started reading.  “You’re looking forward to this aren’t you?”

He looked up and smiled. “You know it. I want to become an agent so bad I can taste it.”

The rest of the week we took it easy. On Thursday, I had to take Chris to the airport. It was a sad time for him and Bennie. “Bennie, you and Ace have to get out to Seattle.”

“I will buddy but I think I’m going to carry a full load so I can graduate in four years. You better work hard too bro.”

“Don’t worry Bennie, you know I will. I have your Dad to answer to.”

The boys hugged and kissed then Chris and I got his luggage down to the Charger. The drive to the airport went without a hitch. I found a slot in front of the Seattle Air Lines departure terminal then we got his gear and headed inside. Once Chris stopped at the check in counter, it was on to the security area. Chris waited in line then I put my credentials on my pocket and went around and waited for him. Chris breezed through the line then it on to the gate. We still had thirty minutes until his flight was to take off so we made one last pit stop. Just as we stepped out of the bathroom Chris’s flight was called. Chris wanted me to walk to the plane with him so my credentials allowed me to go with him. Once he got settled, I gave him a hug then had to get off the plane. No sooner had I stepped off the jet way, the doors closed and it was moved away from the plane.

I stood by the window and watched the plane get pushed back. While I was watching, my cell rang. “Mason.”

“Ace, I’ll call you when I get home.”

I smiled as I saw him waving through the window. “Alright son, I’ll be expecting it.”

Chris ended the call then the plane started to taxi out to the runway. A few minutes later, I saw it zip past then lift off into the sky. ‘Have a safe trip buddy.’ I thought then went out to my car for the drive back to the residence.

To be continued...
