He looked down then back up to me and turned a little red. “Well, ever since my Mom started her bull I’ve tried to masturbate but nothing works. I mean, I can get hard but when I do it, nothing happens and I usually end up with a sore penis. What’s wrong Pop? Why isn’t it working like before?”

With everything he’d been though it wasn’t surprising he was having problems. “Finish your shower son and we’ll talk, OK?”

He put his arms up so I leaned down and gave him a kiss. “Thanks Papa Doc.”

Chapter 55

I dried my chest off again then let him finish his shower. I grabbed a clean shirt then went down stairs as what Matt asked brought back memories. I’d had the talk with Jay when he was a little younger than Matt. Jay’s issues weren’t like Matt’s in that he needed a little extra lubrication. Matt would have to work through the crap his mother had spewed. I wasn’t sure if I could help him with this or not. Before I could take another step Matt called to me. I turned around and returned to my room. Matt was lying on the bed fiddling with his erection. “So what’s the problem son?”

He looked up at me. “It’s not happening Papa Doc. I get close and then all the crap Mom said starts coming back.”

I sat down beside him and gently smiled. “Let me ask you something son. Do you believe what she said?”

He got a confused look on his face. “What do you mean Papa?”

He turned onto his side and propped his head up on his elbow. “It’s like this Matt; do you believe that you’re a pervert like your Mother says?”

“Hell no,” Matt quipped then slapped his hand over his mouth. “I’m sorry Papa. No, I don’t believe that for a minute. Once I got to masturbate with Matt and Joey. It was really cool.”

“I take it everything worked just fine.”

He giggled when I asked the question. “Yeah, it worked just fine.”

“Son, you just have to remember back to then. Masturbation is normal. There isn’t a person I know of that hasn’t done it.”

Matt got serious then. “So how do I keep from letting Mom’s thoughts back in my head?”

This was going to be much easier said than done. I reached out and scooped Mat and sat him on my lap. “You have to really believe that what she’s said to you is total crap. I’ve raised 3 boys and I know they all did it.”

I felt him take a deep breath then let it go. “I’ll try Papa.”

I got up and went into the bathroom and returned with a bottle of lotion and a towel. “Try this son; it’s helped another of my sons.”

He blushed then giggled. “Thanks Papa.”

I walked out closing the door behind me. If this didn’t help, I didn’t have any other idea except for possibly talking with Matt and Joey. I went back to the living room and sat down in my recliner. Steven and Angel were cuddled together watching a movie. “Is everything alright Daddy?”

I nodded my head. “Yeah Angel, everything is OK. I’m just helping Matt try to work through a couple things.”

“Anything I can do Daddy?” She asked as Matt came into the room with a big smile on his face.

He came over and snuggled on my lap. I smiled at my girl then shook my head. “I don’t think so darling. I have a feeling everything is fine now.”

Matt kissed me on the cheek as Angel had a confused look on her face. Matt leaned close to my ear. “Everything worked fine Papa, thanks.”

Matt snuggled back and Angel continued to try to figure out what was going on. Steven looked at her and shook his head. “Relax love; you should know Dad well enough by now.”

After the movie, I got Matt off to bed then watched the news. 30 minutes later, I went upstairs then did my business before snuggling against him. I closed my eyes and heard, “Night Papa.”

The next morning I woke before the alarm so I quietly got up, did my business then went to the kitchen. Angel set the coffee up for me so a hot pot was waiting on me. I poured a cup then thought about the upcoming hearing. With the ADA being there, she may decide to add still another charge against Martha.

After I got my first cup of coffee in me, I started getting breakfast ready because there would be at least 1 hungry person in the house. I got some bacon going in the microwave then started scrambling some eggs. I was just about to wake Matt up when I felt someone wrap their arms around me. “Morning Dad.”

I knew by the arms who it was. “Morning son, are you hungry?”

He kissed me on the cheek then stepped back. “Yeah I am but Angel said she’d cook.”

“I have the bacon going already. Why don’t you go and wake Matt up. We have to leave here in about an hour for court.”

Steven turned and left the kitchen. “Alright Dad.”

A few minutes later Angel came into the room. “Morning Daddy, I’ll take over now. Go sit down and have your coffee.”

I warmed my coffee then sat down at the table. I felt small arms around my shoulders then a kiss on the cheek. “Morning Papa Doc.”

Matt came around and snuggled on my lap for a few minutes. “Morning tiger, how’d you sleep last night?”

He looked up at me and smiled. “I always sleep good here. This is like my second home.”

I saw Angel coming over with the plates so I scooted Matt over to his chair. Steven came in and finished helping Angel then we all dug in. After we ate, Steven helped Angel while Matt and I got ready for court.

When we got down to the courthouse, I parked the Blazer then we hurried inside to find Cindy. As soon as we went inside, she was waiting for us. “Miguel, I’m glad you’re early. She’s first case on the docket this morning.”

We followed her down the long hall past the different rooms. “I’d still like to know how she managed to get out.”

Matt fell behind us then shouted. “Wait Papa, here comes Mom.”

We stopped and I turned around to see Matt running towards Barbara. They hugged briefly then caught up. “How was Matt?”

Matt rolled his eyes. “Mom, I was a brat and Papa had to spank me a dozen times.”

I had to slap my hand over my mouth to keep from busting out laughing. Barbara stopped dead in her tracks and stared at him then realized she’d just been had then broke out into a fit of giggles. “Ok Matt, you got me. I should know by now you behave especially for Miguel.”

We went into the courtroom and had a seat. A few minutes later, Joyce Davenport came in. As soon as she saw us, she glared as if she were trying to shoot daggers out of her eyes. I didn’t see Martha so all I could do was assume she wasn’t able to be bonded out again. “All rise, this court is now is session, the Honorable George Corring presiding.”

A middle aged man came out and took his place on the bench. “Be seated please. I see this first case is an emergency request not to have parental rights terminated.”

A man stood up from the back of the courtroom and came forward. “That is correct Your Honor, Harry Tate representing Martha Davis.”

The judge nodded his head. “It’s nice to meet you counselor. This is a little out of the ordinary sir. Normally the state is filing to terminate parental rights after a person has been convicted of a crime. Why should I not dismiss this case? Has she been convicted of a crime?”

The lawyer went through the rail then set his briefcase on the table. “Not yet Your Honor but we’re also requesting that she be allowed to visit her son prior to trial.”

At this time Cindy stood. “ADA Cindy Wells for the State Your Honor and we strongly object to this.”

The judge looked at her. “On what grounds?”

Cindy took her place at the other table. “For starters, Ms. Davis violated a restraining order yesterday and showed up at the home of Mr. Sanchez demanding to see her son. She was aided in this by the former Director of Social Services Joyce Davenport. Ms. Davis was told to leave Mr. Sanchez’s property several times yet failed to do so. The police had to be called and Ms. Davis was arrested and charged with trespassing.”

“I see,” the judge said making some notes on a pad. “What is Ms. Davis being charged with?”

Mr. Tate stood. “Objection Your Honor, that’s not relevant.”

The judge glared at him. “Excuse me, but it is very relevant.”

Cindy pulled the charge sheet out of her briefcase. “She’s charged with Child Endangerment, Child Abuse and Child Neglect. We are seeking to amend these to add an additional charge against her.”

The judge leaned back in his chair. I thought he was going to dismiss this and be done with it. Mr. Tate was still standing and about to have a heart attack when the judge looked at him. “Very well Mr. Tate, I’ll hear from your client.”

Cindy looked over to me then mouthed, “I’ll get her on cross.”

The Bailiff left the courtroom and returned with Marge a few minutes later. She looked over towards Matt and I saw a scowl come across her face. “Ms. Davis, I’ve agreed to hear your case but the burden of proof here is on you.”

She stopped before the bench. “Oh thank you sir. I just need to be with my child. I am his mother.”

Matt looked over at me and put his finger towards his open mouth. “Give me a break Papa.”

I patted him on his leg. “Keep your cool son. I have a feeling your Mom will do a good enough job in burying herself.”

The Bailiff led her to the witness box then swore her in. Mr. Tate stood then walked over. “Ms. Davis, why should you keep your rights as a parent?”

Matt started to moan so I leaned down. “Behave son.”

Martha looked at Matt then back to her attorney. “I’m a good mother. My son belongs with me and not with strangers.”

About half way through her talk, she started crying trying to play on the Judge’s emotions. “Do you need a break Ms. Davis?

Her lawyer handed her some tissues then she sipped a little water. “I’ll be alright Your Honor.”

The Judge looked at Mr. Tate. “Anything further?”

“Nothing further Your Honor.”

The judge looked over to Cindy. “Do you have any questions Ms. Wells?”

Cindy stood. “Yes Your Honor. Ms. Davis, that’s quite the tale you told but there was a few things you seemed to leave out.”

Martha seemed to get a little agitated. “I didn’t leave a thing out.”

Cindy stood in front of her. “If you’re such a good mother, please tell us why we’re here?”

She looked down and sat there for a moment. The Judge looked at her then she just stared. “I was arrested but god knows why. I’m a good mother and love my son.”

Cindy thought for a second. “You say love your son. Last night at Mr. Sanchez’s house I heard things a good mother would never say to her child.”

“Objection,” Mr. Tate said jumping up. “The ADA is testifying.”

The Judge looked over. “Is there a question coming Ms. Wells?”

Cindy looked over to Tate then up to the Judge. “Yes Your Honor. Ms. Davis, would you care to tell us what you called your son?”

She started to speak then stopped. She sat there for a moment then looked towards her lawyer. “I didn’t call him anything. He started yelling and screaming at me. I know it’s that man over there that was behind it. He probably brainwashed my son.”

Cindy looked at the Judge who in turn looked at Martha. “Ms. Davis, kindly keep your innuendos to yourself.”

She stared at the Judge. “I know he did. He’s a good boy and would never talk back to me. I’ve raised him better.”

“Ms. Davis,” Judge Corring admonished. “Control your outbursts or I’ll hold you in contempt.”

She finally got quiet then Cindy continued. “Ms. Davis, can you tell us why your son was taken to the hospital not once, but twice?”

She glared at Cindy. “He got sick.”

Cindy looked at me then back to Martha. “Would you care to elaborate?”

“No,” Martha spat. “You got Mr. Know-it-all Doctor over there, let him explain.”

The Judge’s head snapped but Cindy quickly spoke. “Very well, we can do that. When your son was in the hospital, did you visit him?”

Martha got this dumb look on her face. “Of course I did, what kind of mother do you think I am?”

I had to stifle a giggle and Matt slapped his hand over his mouth. Cindy quickly fired off another question. “Let’s talk about that. Did Matt have anything special while he was in the hospital?”

Mr. Tate stood quickly. “Objection Your Honor.”

The Judge looked at him. “On what grounds?”

Mr. Tate looked at Cindy. “Side bar please?”

Judge Corring motioned them forward. “What is the basis for your objection?”

Tate looked at Cindy then back to the Judge. “That question goes into other matters; matters that don’t have a bearing in this court.

The Judge thought for a moment. “Her criminal charges?”

Tate nodded his head. “Yes Your Honor, sorta.”

“Sort of?” He asked looking at the young ADA.

She nodded her head. “Yes but I can limit the scope of the question to just her yes or no answer.”

“I don’t see a problem with that,” he replied looking at Tate.

Tate glared at the Judge. “I do. There is nothing to stop my client from elaborating.”

Tate was getting very animated. “Calm down counselor. I’ll not let her say more than necessary.”

“We’re not trying that case in here though,” Tate said well over a whisper.”

“In my chambers,” The Judge said banging his gavel then stood and stormed off the bench with two lawyers on his heels.

Inside his chambers he stared at Tate. “Don’t you think I’m well aware of what case I’m trying Mr. Tate?

Tate was speechless. “Yes Your Honor.”

He looked over to Cindy. “And where are you going with your line of questioning?”

She stepped closer to the Judge’s desk. “I’m prepared to offer evidence to dispute her claims that she’s a good mother and she’s being treated unfairly by not seeing her child right now.”

He looked at Mr. Tate. “How long has she been awaiting trial?”

Tate didn’t immediately answer so Cindy did. “Your Honor, all the delays have been brought on by the defendant. The last two times, the day before her case was to start, she’d fire her lawyer then have to get another.”

Judge Corring was starting at Tate. “Is this true? How long have you been her attorney of record?”

Once again Tate was short on an answer. He finally managed, “About two weeks.”

Cindy looked over to him. “Judge Warren has told you there will be no more postponements or delays.”

Outside in the courtroom, Matt was getting a little antsy. “What’s wrong kiddo? Do you have ants in your pants or something?”

Matt reached up and pulled me close. “I got a boner Papa Doc. It’s bent and it hurts. I can’t fix it.”

Martha was over taking to Joyce Davenport. “Do you see what they’re trying to do? They’re saying I’m the bad parent.”

Joyce saw how she acted yesterday. “Martha, you were out of control yesterday. You better keep it together.”

“Keep it together?” She asked as her head turned between her and us.

Joyce stood up and moved beside Martha. “Yes, keep it together. The way you acted yesterday I don’t see how the Judge will grant you visitation. Now I have to go and beg that other Judge to let you out on bond again and to be quite honest, I don’t think that’s going to happen.”

Matt was really fidgeting in his seat. “Son, stand up and face me then put your hand inside your jeans and fix it.”

Matt gingerly stood up then stuck his hand down his pants to fix his erection. He was fixing it when suddenly he was spun around. “Look Joyce, I told you. He’s a pervert, a PERVERT. He’s got his hand down there playing with it.”

Joyce came over and took Martha by the arm and tried to lead her away. “My God Martha, boys have to fix things from time to time.”

“WHAT? Martha bellowed. “Not you too?”

She reared back and I moved Matt out of the way. The Bailiff started coming over then the door to the Judge’s chambers opened. Martha was still yelling at the top of her lungs as the Bailiff grabbed her arms. “What in blazes is going on out here?”

Martha broke loose from the Bailiff and ran to the Judge. “See Your Honor, I told you he was a pervert. He hand his hand down his pants touching that disgusting thing.”

Judge Corring looked at her then towards Mr. Tate. “Get control of your client now.”

Mr. Tate walked over to Martha. “Come on now. Let’s go sit down.”

Martha started to go with him then she turned and charged Matt. “Argh you little pervert.”

The Bailiff intercepted her and quickly had her in handcuffs. He led her over to the table then sat her down as Judge Corring took his seat. “In all my years I’ve never seen anything like this before. I had my doubts about hearing this case but now I’m certain. Ms. Wells, when does her case come to trial?”

Cindy looked in her briefcase. “Her trial is scheduled for Friday.”

The Judged nodded his head. “Very well Ms. Wells, Ms. Davis, I can not in good conscience allow you around your child at this point in time.”

She jumped up and Tate tried to hold on to her. “What? Oh, I see you’re siding with them.”

The Bailiff put his hand on her shoulder and pushed her back down into her chair. “It is the order of this court that the restraining order previously issued will continue to remain in effect and that you remain in custody without bond. This court is adjourned.”

Matt stood and jumped into my arms then looked over to his mother as she was led to the door. “You don’t get it do you MOM! You’ve hurt me for the last time.”

Barbara came over and put her arm around Matt’s shoulder. Matt buried his face into our shoulders and started crying. I looked up and saw Joyce standing there. “Barbara, I swear I didn’t know she was really that bad.”

She looked up. “Joyce, I tried to tell you. There is even video of her when Matt here was in the hospital.”

Matt finally slowed his tears down then stared at Joyce. “And you want to put me back there? I’ll never go back there and if you try to make me, I’ll just run away.”

Matt was less than quiet when he said that then I saw Judge Corring stop and walk over. “I’m sorry for his outburst Your Honor.”

He walked over and put his hand on Matt’s back. Matt quickly turned around and saw the judge then dropped his eyes to the floor. The judge lifted his head with his finger under Matt’s chin. “No need to apologize. Matt, I’m sorry you had that happen. May I ask why she was arrested?”

Cindy was standing there when Judge Corring asked that question. “Are you sure you want to hear this sir? It could disqualify you if you’re needed to hear the case for any reason. By the way Your Honor, I just filled out a subpoena for your Bailiff.”

The judge nodded his head. “Yes Ms. Wells, I would like to know.”

I put Matt down on his feet. “Well Your Honor, she would lace his food and water with Imodium. That is a prescription medication used for controlling someone with diarrhea.”

He just shook his head. “I’m so sorry you had to go through that son. Ms. Wells hand me the subpoena and I’ll see to it the Bailiff gets it.”

She handed it to the Judge then he left and went into his chambers. I looked over at Joyce and she was standing there with her mouth hanging open. “And this was the person you want to return this child to?”

To be continued...
