Chapter 28
Is This a Cabin Or What?

When everyone was ready, I handed the map to Bill, "I'll lead the way to this mysterious cabin while Daddy Bill acts as my navigator."

Roy nodded, "Dr. Jacobs and Grandma Archer, why don't you ride with me?  It will be much more comfortable if we don't all try to squeeze into one vehicle."

The directions were very explicit, and we made it to the place where the cabin was supposed to be located.  There was a sign that said 'Private Property Keep Out'.  I looked at Bill, "Are you sure this is the right place?"

Bill pointed to the mailbox and it indeed was the right address.  We could see a large structure some distance away, but it sure didn't look like a cabin.  I started up the gravel driveway and the five boys were straining to get a good view of the building.  We were about halfway to the building when Danny asked, "Dad, are you sure this is the right place?  It sure doesn't look like a cabin to me."

Bill answered, "Danny, this is the address that was on the map that your Granddad sent.  Les, the note says the key is for the front door and the alarm system is to the left of the front door as we enter.  The code is 9833."

As we were crawling out of the vehicles, Roy had a funny look on his face, "Les, if this is your idea of a cabin, then I sure would be interested in knowing what your idea of mansion would be."

I threw up my hands, "I was just quoting what Dad Witmer told me.  Everything happened so fast last night that I didn't have time to ask any questions and Dad Witmer didn't volunteer any information."

Roy nodded, "Yeh, Doctor Witmer can be a little spooky some times."
Darrin looked perplexed, "Daddy, is Granddad a doctor like Uncle Roy?"

Roy answered before I could. "Darrin, your Granddad is a doctor, but he is a urologist like Doctor Gordon."

David gave Bill and me a funny look.

I opened the door and turned off the alarm.  The room was illuminated by the evening sun coming in the two levels of floor to ceiling windows that overlooked a fantastic view of the lake.  The open area was very handsomely furnished but it had a definite masculine feeling.  The five boys were fascinated and started to explore.

We started on the left of the entrance and there was game room with a full sized pool table, a large round circular table which I assumed was used as a table for playing card games and foosball game.  The next room was a small theatre like room with a huge television.  We went to the rooms on the other side of the great room.  The first room was a large formal dining room that could easily seat twenty people.

When we walked into the kitchen, Mom Archer just stopped.  It was as if her head did a slow 360 degree turn.  "My goodness, this is a dream kitchen.  Look at the view from the eating area."

The eating area was set in an alcove and arranged around a half oval table so everyone could have a view of the lake and the surrounding landscape.

We went up one of the two circular stairways that led to the second floor.  I won't bore you with the full description, but the two rooms at the back of the house  that had a view of the lake were like suites with a sitting room and a private balcony and a very large bathroom with all sorts of amenities.  The other four rooms were spacious with a large king size bed.  They each had a private bathroom.

As we were returning to the main floor, Dr. Jacobs looked at me, "Les, how much did you pay for this cabin?"

When I replied,  "$5.00."  Roy, Mom  Archer and Dr. Jacobs all stopped and looked at me as if I was an absolute moron.

Dr. Jacobs shook his head, "Les, that's not even funny.  $5.00 wouldn't even pay for the keys to open the front door."

Our conversation was interrupted by the sound of a chime of some sort.  Darrin, who had just come up from the basement, went to answer the front door.  "Daddy, there is a police officer here to see you."

"Bring him in, please."

Darrin brought an extremely handsome gentlemen into room and I approached him, "Good evening, sir,  I'm Les Phillips, how can I help you?"

The officer stuck out his hand, "I'm Sheriff Sloane Finch. I was hoping to see the owner, Doctor Witmer, to see if he was available to provide some services that I need."

"Sheriff Finch, I'm now the owner of this property.  I brought it from my father-in-law.  This is the first time I have been here.  Let me introduce you to my friends."

I introduced him to my companions and his radio started squawking.  He looked at us, "I need to go.  My presence is needed elsewhere,"

I walked the Sheriff to the door and as I was shaking his hand, he gave me a funny look, "I guess you won't be providing the same services as your father-in-law or be having any more parties like he has had.  His clients are going to be upset."

When I returned to the group, the boys were all excited and were practically pulling the adults out the back door to the lake.  David started, "Look Dad,  the fish are jumping out of the water.  Look over there.  There are three deer drinking water."

Darrin came running, "Dad, there's a boat in the house over there.  It has a small motor on it so we can go fishing.  Can we take the boat out and try to catch some fish?   There are some fishing poles in the building.  Please Dad."

All of a sudden Darrin stopped and looked at Roy who was shaking, "Doctor Roy, it will be okay.  There are no other boats on the lake so it will be just us.  You gotta do this just like I had to get back on a bicycle again.  Your other family will make sure that you're okay."

Roy, who knew more about boats than anyone else, reluctantly agreed; he maneuvered the boat out the boat house.  The five boys grabbed a fishing pole and were ready to go.  Roy reminded them that they needed some bait if the wanted to catch a fish.

David looked around, "Do you want us to dig up some fishing  worms or something?"

Roy looked around, "Check that case over there.  If I'm not wrong, I'm guessing that it contains some lures that we can for use tonight."

It  did, and we took off for the middle of the lake.  Mom Archer and Grandpa Jake stayed behind and sat on a bench on the pier.  Roy showed the boys how to attach a lure.  We were only on the lake for approximately twenty minutes before each of the boys had caught a nice sized rainbow trout.

It started to get dark and Roy maneuvered the boat back to the boat house.  There was an ice chest there so we put the thirteen fish that the boys had caught in it and took it to the main house to add some ice to keep them fresh until we got back to town.

Bill and I made sure the buildings were secure and I set the alarm as I locked the door.

It was 8:45 when we got back to the house.  Roy, looked at the boys, "Guys, keep ice on the fish and I'll stop by tomorrow night and show you how to fillet them.  Kent, get your things; we need to go pick up your Mother."

Bill and I helped the boys ice down the fish and we set them on the back deck for the night.  We sent the boys to get ready for bed.  When we checked the phone, the message light was blinking.  Both Bill and I held our breath.

I punched the speaker button and the first message started.  "This is Dad Witmer.  Les, if you haven't already registered the deed to the cabin, please do so tomorrow.  It is imperative that you do it as soon as possible.  Please call me with the name of your lawyer and his or her number so my attorney can get in touch with him or her.  Call me when you can.  I will be out for the remainder of the evening, but you can leave a message for me."

The rest of the calls were routine so I erased them.  I called George Degan hoping that he and Don would be home.  Don answered the phone. "Don, this is Les.  You should see the cabin that I paid five bucks for last night."

Don laughed, "It was that bad, huh."

"Au contraire, my friend, it was like a palatial estate with all of the modern amenities.  I need to talk to George if he's not busy."

George came on, "George, I'm guessing that Don told you what happened here at the house last night?"

"Yep, did you get ripped off?"

"Quite the opposite, George.  We just got back from the so-called cabin and there was a message on our machine saying that I needed to get the deed registered in my name as soon as possible.  Can you help me?"

"Les, meet me at my office at 8:00 and we'll see what we can do."

"One other thing, George, my father-in-law wants the name of a lawyer who would be representing me and the boys so that he can have his lawyer contact him or her.  Would you be our lawyer on personal matters?  I have a lawyer who handles the matters for the business, but he would never understand my new lifestyle if you get what I'm saying."

George started to laugh, "I guess you're saying that your present lawyer isn't very gay friendly.  Les, I would be honored to be your and your wonderful sons' advisor on legal matters."

"Thanks, George, I'll see you in the morning at eight."

I hung up just in time because the four boys came down the steps.  Denny started, "Dads, make sure that no one steals our fish.  Is it okay if we have a snack before we go to bed"

We were sitting at the table with the boys while they were eating.  Darrin looked at us, "Dads, how are we going to live in two houses at the same time?  We can't leave here, because we need to make sure Grandma Hattie is okay.  We can't have people running us back and forth all the time to mow yards."

"Darrin, we won't make any decisions without talking to you boys first.  Everything has happened so fast that Daddy Bill and I need to have some time to think about what is best for all of us.  Now why don't the four of you go brush your teeth and get into bed.  We'll be up to kiss you goodnight as soon as we take care of the dishes."

The three youngest boys left immediately, but David stayed behind, "Dads, if Granddad is a doctor like Doctor Gordon, why didn't you have him check me?"

Bill answered, "David, first, I did not realize that your Grandfather was a urologist.  Second, would you have liked to have had to ejaculate in front of your Grandfather?"

David shook his head no, "Dad, I would have been very embarrassed if I had to jack off in front of Granddad.  It was bad enough having to do it in front of Doctor Gordon."

I hugged David, "And thirdly, your Grandfather's office is an hour away from here.  Now get upstairs and brush those teeth.  We'll come say goodnight as soon as we lock up."

We hugged the four boys and I thought to myself, 'I'm so lucky to have four sons who think of others and aren't afraid to ask questions'.

Bill and I took quick showers and then he had his way with me and I was going to have a difficult time making the eight o'clock appointment with George Degan, but I didn't mind."

It's a good thing we had some human alarm clocks around, because we were awakened the next morning by Denny and Danny, "Dads, some one has stolen our fish?"

I sat up even though I was naked, "What are you talking about?  They were fine when we came to bed.  I even put them under the table so no one could see them."

Both Bill and I pulled on some sweat clothes and followed the twins to the patio and sure enough the cooler was gone.  I grabbed a cup of coffee and the front door bell was ringing and I went to answer the door and Roy was standing there with the cooler.

Danny and Denny were right behind me, "Hi guys, I took the fish to the lake and cleaned them and filleted them.  I figured this might be the only time I have to do it today.  Tell your Grandma to expect three extra people for dinner tonight for a good old fashioned fish fry.  Make sure you put a lot of ice on them until she cooks the fillets."

Denny and Danny did as they were directed to do.  Roy hugged both Bill and me, "Guys, I feel as if a weight has been removed from my back.  I was really hesitant about taking the boat out last night, but while I was watching the boys, a presence was sitting on either side of me telling me this was what they wanted to me to do."

"Last night or early this morning, I had a dream and my first wife Lorelei was talking to me saying, 'Roy, be the best husband and father you can be for Shay and Kent.'  Trev and Trent started pulling me and saying, 'Dad, we gotta go clean the fish for the guys.  They don't know how to do it.  Daddy make sure you take care of new brother.'

Roy started to shed tears, "Guys, you realize this is all Darrin's fault."

Darrin had heard the comment because he was on the stairs, "What's my fault?"

I looke at my watch and it was already 7:35.  I quickly dressed for the day and arrived at George Degan's office a little after a 8.  He was waiting for me.  I showed him the papers that Mr. Witmer and I had signed and Don had witnessed.

He quickly looked them over and shrugged his shoulders, "Les, this should be an open and shut case.  Are you sure that you are not getting stuck with an albatross?"

"George, quite frankly, I don't know what to think anymore.  I think there is more going on than Mr. Witmer has told me.  I just know that I don't want Mrs. Witmer anywhere near the boys.  May I call Mr. Witmer now and tell him that you will be my lawyer?"

George handed me the phone and I pulled out my address book and dialed the number.  Mr. Witmer answered, "Dale Witmer here, how can I help you?"

"Dad, this is Les.  I'm sitting here in my lawyer's office.  His name is George Degan.  He will be representing me and the boys."

"Put him on the line, please."

I could hear George's side of the conversation, "Mr. Witmer, this is George Degan.  I have the honor of representing your son-in-law and his four wonderful sons.  How can I help you? … Yes sir, we can take care of that over our lunch hour. …. I'll call him as soon as I can, sir. … Yes sir; I will sir. … Okay here's Les."

"This is Les."

"Les, I had completely forgotten to warn the members of the Boys Club that the ownership of the house on the lake had changed.  After Lance called me last night and told me about his encounter with you, I took care of the problem immediately so none of the members should be bothering you again.  I need to go.  I'm due in surgery in an hour.  Talk to you later."

I handed the phone to George, "George, I think I have lost control of my life."

George frowned at me, "I think you sold your soul to the Devil for five dollars.  I'll pick you up at noon and we'll get the deed to cabin on the lake transferred to your name.  In the meantime, I'll try to contact Doctor Witmer's lawyer and see why I need to talk to him.  By the way, my services aren't cheap, just ask the Madsens."

To be continued...

Editor's Notes:  Well, the fish in the lake aren't the only thing that seems a little fishy.  What is grandfather Witmer certainly wanted to get that "cabin" in Les' hands quickly, didn't he?   I wonder if he has some knowledge that he is not sharing with Les.

My first guess would be that his nasty wife had no idea that he owned the cabin and that if she had a good lawyer, she might be able to find it out.

Of course, having a place that they can go to get away from said nasty person, could also be a good thing.

I think it might be possible that Grandma Hattie might be willing to spend some time at the "cabin" too, which would be a nice change for her and they could still look after her there.

As I sit here and think about things, I realize that Grandfather Witmer seems to have somewhat the same difficulty keeping from using his body for extra marital encounters.  The only thing that separates him from his daughter is that he is not a mean nasty person. I guess Bitch Jr. took a page or two from each of her parents. Maybe we will find out a bit more in the next chapter, which I certainly hope comes along very soon.
