Pup Isn’t so Small
Beau was up early on Tuesday. It was raining so he went to the basement and did an easy workout. He delivered coffee as normal. When Rebecca came down, he turned over the preparation of breakfast to her and quickly showered after waking up Jason and Clay.
They crawled into the shower with Beau. Clay asked, “Daddy Beau, are you going to be okay? Please don’t cry anymore. I’ll make sure that no one ever hurts you.”
Beau picked Clay up and gave him a kiss. He pulled Jason close and hugged him. Jason threw his arms around Beau and held him. There was no eroticism. It was a sheer display of love. Beau gave the guys each a final hug and left the shower. He returned to the kitchen to help Becca.
“Beau, are you upset with me? You are so quiet.” Becca asked.
“Becca, I am feeling so loved from what the two guys said and did upstairs and at the same time, I’m afraid of what lies ahead with your relatives. I really don’t want you and Grandma Renee to have to deal with them in any way.”
Mrs. Gleason was standing in the doorway. “Beau, do you think I am too weak to deal with them?”
“Grandma Irene, I don’t think that you are weak. You need to stay here and make sure that Rebecca is not hurt again. There is so much hate in those three families right now that there is no telling what they might try to do, especially to the two of you and me. When Uncle Dan comes, I'll go with him. He and the deputies can protect me, but if the three of us were together it would be much more difficult.”
Everyone was eating breakfast when Dan Crawford walked in wearing his uniform. Beau looked at him and said, “Hi Sheriff, do you have our pickups being made?”
“Yes Mr. Benson, all out of state properties have been vacated and secured. We are going to accompany the Rudolf Gleason family while they get their basic needs starting at 9:00. Each person will have 15 minutes. Then at 10:30 the Rodman’s will be afforded the same opportunity. We are scheduled to meet at the Archibald Gleason house at 1:00. We should be home by three.”
Beau left with Dan and met four deputies at the Rudolf Gleason family house. One of the deputies accompanied Mr. Gleason into the house. Mr. Gleason got the clothes that he wanted and he tried to go to a wall safe. Beau said, “Mr. Gleason, if we find anything important that we think you will need, we will send it to you, if you provide us a forwarding address. You can call us at this number when you get settled.”
Mrs. Gleason was next. She immediately started for her jewelry box. Beau grabbed it first and said, “Mrs. Gleason, the judges said you could take two suitcases of necessities. The rest of the things will be sent to you once they have been thoroughly examined.”
Mrs. Gleason left and Leroy came in, “I don’t need anything. I’ll just go to the school and get my things.”
Beau said, “Oh, didn’t you know? Your things have been collected and will be sold at auction. Your porn tapes have been turned over to the F. B. I. You have five minutes left and you are out of here for good.”
Leroy moved as quickly as he could to get the few clothes that still remained in the house. Everything fit into one suitcase. Dan and Beau secured the house and when they arrived at the Rodman house, Mr. Rodman came in first. “You little pervert, you are so going to pay for ruining my reputation.”
Beau started to laugh. “What reputation? You are paying two women for child support. When the payments stop coming, they are going to take you to court and you will be exposed for the kind of person you are. I imagine your wife will be divorcing you and you’ll be on the street selling your body and you aren’t going to find many takers.”
Mr. Rodman left very defeated. Mrs. Rodman came in. She started to give Beau and Dan static and Beau put up his hand and said, “Rosie, you are a slut and permitted your daughter to be sexually abused, so get what you need and get out of here. Of all of the people I have met in this case, you are the one I like least.”
The squad car pulled away and Dan held Beau. “Beau, how do you know all of this? Why didn’t it come out in the trial?”
Beau looked at Dan and said, “Uncle Dan, I have been trying to protect the people that count. Let’s go grab lunch. There are some things that we need to take care of. I just have bad vibes about this whole mess. Let me call Grams and see if she is available. We are going to need all of the help we can get.”
Beau called Mrs. Tillison. The guys picked her up and Beau assigned Mrs. Tillison some things to arrange. He also told Dan to arrange for 24 hour coverage of the all properties especially the local one since he didn’t trust any of these seven people. He used Mrs. Tillison’s cell phone and made several calls.
As they were leaving the small restaurant, Beau said, “Grams, please call Mr. Crosby and have him meet us at our house this evening at seven, so he can arrange temporary insurance to cover the properties until things settle down.”
“Beau, I’ll make the necessary arrangements. Is there any way I can get a key to the properties and clearance to enter?” Mrs. T. asked.
Dan said, “Mrs. Tillison, I will arrange whatever you need.”
Beau made two more phone calls and they dropped Mrs. Tillison off after getting her the keys she requested. She looked at Beau and pointed her finger at him, “Young man, I want you to forget this case as soon as you get rid of the last two people. Let Dan and me worry about it from now on. You just make sure that Irene and Rebecca are okay.”
When they got to the last
house, two deputies were waiting with the Mr. and Mrs. Archibald Gleason. Beau
and Dan went into the house and Mr. Gleason came in started to collect some
clothes and went to grab a box from the closet. Beau grabbed the box. “Uncle
Dan, I’m guessing that there is something pornographic in here. Here you hold
the box while Mr. Gleason gets the rest of his clothes.”
Mrs. Archie Gleason came in and went for some keys on the dresser. Beau said, “Ma’am, those keys are useless. All of the locks on this house and your gambling hideaway in Las Vegas have been changed. The judges said you could only take the clothes necessary until your other things can be forwarded to you.”
“But you can’t do that. We bought all of these things with our own money.” Mrs. Gleason moaned.
Beau bent over laughing. “You and your husband have filed negative income tax returns for the past six years. There is no way that any of the things in this house were paid for with your own money. Just so you know, your condo in Las Vegas has been sealed and there is a sign posted on the front door saying, ‘The previous owners have moved and now reside in Fremont, Nebraska.’”
Mrs. Gleason moved rapidly and left. Dan looked at Beau and said, “Is there really such a sign?”
“Not exactly Uncle Dan, but there is a sign on the front door that says the residents have moved.” Beau smiled.
Dan started to laugh, “Beau, how did you arrange that?”
“Easy, I just called the condo management office and asked them to post a sign that said the previous tenets have moved. I wasn’t about to mention Fremont, Nebraska or we would have a bunch of people around here trying to collect money. Now let’s go home.”
They crawled into the cruiser and Dan said, “Now I know why the twins and Danny think you are so special. You are always two or three jumps ahead of anyone else. It doesn’t hurt that you have some powerful friends.”
Beau looked at Dan with big eyes and said, “Uncle Dan, are you suggesting that I am using undue influence on people?”
“Not at all Beau. All I am saying is that you have been doing all the right things so that people pay attention.” Dan answered.
Beau was laughing hard when he got out of the cruiser. “So you’re saying a big bark can get people to jump even if comes from a small pup.”
Dan started to laugh, “Danny says the pup isn’t really so small and is a little envious.”
Beau bent over, “Bye Uncle Dan, I can’t say today was exactly fun.”
As everyone was eating, Beau said, “I just had a brain storm. Grandma Renee, why don’t we take Rebecca and look at the furniture in the three houses we visited today, and see if there is anything you want to keep to put in the condo that you are going to buy. We could take Dylan and Carole Anne and they could pick out some things for their new home as well.”
Rebecca started, “Sonny, you are out of touch. Grandma signed the contract for her condo today.”
“Yep, Daddy and Mommy bought one of those things except it is two buildings away and has an upstairs. Grandma Renee’s house is all flat. I am going to have my own bedroom and bathroom. We have a big basement that Daddy and Mommy said would be our family room.” Clay beamed.
Beau threw up his hands, “No one ever tells me anything.”
Jason nonchalantly picked up, “You don’t suppose it’s because you are always so busy, do you? Yesterday, you were playing lawyer and today you were playing sheriff. What do you expect a newspaper just for you each day? Do you need us to include what time you need to go to the bathroom, too?”
“Daddy, spank Jason. He’s making fun of me and he’s hurting my feelings.” Beau complained.
Jason didn’t miss a beat, “You said you didn’t have any of those feeling things.”
Everyone was laughing. After dinner, the four young people took care of the cleanup and Beau called Jeff. “Jeff, which of the 5 year olds are going to D. C.? … Oh so it’s just going to be Chip, Trey, Roddy and Clay? … Okay we’re going to get together and practice their two songs. I am sure that your Dad told you what happened yesterday and I exacerbated the situation today.”
“Okay, we’ll get the 13/14 year olds together at your house tomorrow night. I guess we need to see if Rebecca can fit into our group. … You want what? … Okay, I’ll call Berto and see if he would like to go so he could partner with S.Z.Q.” Beau said as he hung up.
Beau made his calls and had everything lined up. He got Dylan and Carole Anne to drive and they picked up Trey whose Dad was heading to Ben and Josh’s house. They then collected Chip and Roddy and went to Denny’s house.
Denny’s house had a big wrap-around front porch. Beau and Denny sat on the side and had Chip and Trey sing Yankee Doodle Dandy while Clay and Roddy watched. He had them join on the second try and the four guys did a nice job. Beau was okay with the performance but was not thrilled.
He did the same with Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. It again was okay but Chip knew Beau wasn’t really pleased. “Beau, we will practice more tomorrow. Denny, you are going to have your guitar with you when we go to Washington, D. C. aren‘t you?”
Denny answered, “Yep, Jeff, Kenny and I are all taking our guitars. The guys ran through the two numbers one last time and there was a group of people watching from the street. The onlookers applauded when the guys finished. Beau hugged the guys and they crawled into Carole Anne’s van.
Jason met everyone as they were coming in, “Jeff called and said there would be a final rehearsal on Thursday at seven at the church.”
To be continued...

I am still worried about those terrible offspring of Grandma Gleason.
