Chapter 21

I Could Spit Nails

Monday started off to be a normal morning with Beau sitting outside waiting to see if anyone showed up to run.  Dale pulled up with Jeremy and Spencer.  Jeff and Tommy pulled in and the six of them began to run.  When they got back, Beau took a shower and knocked on his Dad’s door wearing only his briefs.  He put their coffee on their night stands.

Josh surprised Beau and pulled him on the bed between him and Ben and said, “Welcome home, son.”

Beau propped himself up on his elbow, “Watch it Dads, I’ve been identified as H.I.V. positive.”

Both guys shouted, “What?”

“Yeh, at the Ranch they declared that I was highly intensified violent.” He kissed them both and jumped out of bed.

Beau said, “You have 30 minutes until breakfast.  So take a quick shower and no messing around.  I will not clean any messes in the shower.”

They heard Jason yelling “Get away from me.  I don’t have anything you don’t have.”

When everyone was eating, the phone rang and Jason answered and handed it to Beau.

“Hi Jeff, what’s up? … We have a tuxedo fitting at 4:30. … Are you calling Denny and Chip? … Oh they already know.  Thanks for the call I’ll see you at 4:15.”

They had just finished breakfast when the phone rang again.  Josh answered and handed it to Beau.  Beau said, “Hi Mr. Cooper. … Okay, I’ll see you at 8:30 then.”

Everyone left for the day; Beau was doing laundry and making a shopping list when Mr. Cooper arrived. They went into some rural area where they arrived at a neatly maintained farm.  An older gentleman answered the door and took them to the kitchen where his wife was baking cookies.

Beau charmed the couple and had a glass of milk and two cookies.  Beau knew all of the right questions to ask and found out that they had sold the farm and all of the equipment and animals to a young family and they already had their own house furnishings.

Beau asked, “So, where will you be living?”

“We are moving to Atlanta to live with our son and his family.  Their house is already full, so all we need to take are our personal things and some special memorabilia.  They have made a separate apartment for us.”  The lady answered.

Beau said, “I guess that it would be a relief to get all of these things off your hands.  Would it be permissible for me to look around?  Is there any place where you prefer I not go?”

The lady said, “Young man, you are so handsome and polite that you can do anything that you need to do.”

Mr. Cooper and the gentleman followed Beau around.  He checked the drawers and furniture for markings.  He was very thorough.  He even went to the attic and when he came down, he had a big grin.  “Sir, you and your wife have a veritable gold mine up there.”

The three gentlemen went to the kitchen and Beau said, “Ma’am you have a beautifully maintained home.  I’m sure that it is going to be hard for you to leave.  I’m going to write down a figure for Mr. Cooper to see and he will make you an offer.

Beau handed Mr. Cooper a piece of paper and Mr. Cooper said, “We’ll give you $32,500.00 for the lot.”

The couple looked stunned.  “The auctioneer said we’d be lucky to get $10,000.00 for everything.  Where do we sign?” the gentleman asked.

Mr. Cooper pulled out some papers and they were signed.  “Now when would you like us to pick up the merchandise?” Beau asked.

The lady said, “The sooner the better.  The young couple who bought the farm are chomping at the bit to move in.”

Beau said, “Mr. C., why don’t you have the furniture and goods picked up on Wednesday.  I’ll be working on Thursday when they unload the merchandise.”

The lady said, “That would give me enough time to pack what we want to take with us.  Young man, I don’t know who you are exactly, but I would vote for you any day.”

Beau hugged the couple as he and Mr. Cooper left.  As soon as they got into the car, Mr. Cooper asked, “Beau, what was so special about that house?”

Beau said, “Mr. C., everything in that house was beautifully maintained.  Plus there were some things of value in the attic and I didn’t even go to the basement.  If I am not mistaken, there were also some artworks that will produce a couple of bucks.  Think of it this way, you got the goods at a good price and more importantly, you made that couple very happy.”

Beau and Mr. Cooper stopped to get Mrs. Cooper and Beau asked if they could go to the Madison’s for lunch.

Mrs. Madison looked at Beau and said, “Beau, you’ve grown since I saw you.  You are a good looking stud.”

Beau said, “Mrs. Madison, you’re just trying to get a bigger tip.”

After they ate, they went to a totally different town.  But this time both of the Coopers were with Beau.  They went up to a house and a lady with a cane greeted them.  Beau started to work his magic.  She made them some tea and Beau went to the car and brought in a box of cookies he had purchased at the Madison’s.

“Ma’am, I’d like to look around if it’s okay, to see what’s here.  May I go into the attic and the basement?”

“Young man, there isn’t much left after the children and their spouses swooped through the house like vultures this past weekend and took what they wanted.  They were even fighting over some of the things.” the lady said.

Beau went to look around while the Coopers visited with the lady.  Beau took his time and looked at everything.  He came back and said, “It looks like your children did a very good job of taking a lot of nice things.  Now where are you moving and what are you taking with you?”

The lady answered, “I was planning to move to an assisted living facility in Omaha.  Hopefully this house will sell so I can make enough to stay for a long time.”

Beau handed the Coopers a piece of paper and they both nodded.  Beau said, “Ma’am, we’ll offer you $11,000.00 for everything that is left.  Your children will not be permitted to remove anything else.  Now when are you planning to move to the assisted living facility?”

“I can move in any time after next Monday, assuming I can afford it and someone will help me move.” the lady answered.

The Coopers could tell that Beau was seething, but Beau remained very calm and asked, “Now what have you done about selling your house ma’am?”

“I had a real estate agent come by and he said he might be able to get $45,000 for the place.”  Mrs. Gleason said.

Beau looked at the Coopers and said, “Ma’am, don’t do anything until you hear from me.  Now ma’am, if you will sign this paperwork, we’ll have you out of here next Monday and you can start to enjoy your life with people who you like and will care about you.  Now don’t do anything until my friends and I arrive.  We’ll take care of you, I promise.”

The Coopers and Beau crawled into the van and Beau said, “I’m so angry I could spit nails.  Mrs. Gleason needs so much love and it its apparent that she won’t get it from her offspring.  They and their spouses appear only to be concerned about their well being and care nothing about her.  We’ve got to do something.”

Mrs. Cooper said, “Beau, you can’t fix everyone’s problems, so don’t try?”

Beau said, “I know that, but I would still like to castrate her children for what they are doing.”

Mr. Cooper said, “Beau, you’ll come up with a way to get even, I’m sure.  Now just relax, we’re almost to your house.”

Beau climbed out of the Coopers' van.  Chip was standing there with his hands on his hips and said, “It’s about time.  Now let’s go.  Hi Grandpa and Grandma, we have to take Beau and get him some culture.”

Josh pulled in just as Jeff was leaving.   Josh invited the Coopers in for a drink.  They were in the kitchen when Ben and Jason came in. “Dad, can we go swimming?”

“No, now set the dining room table for six.  Besides, Beau isn’t here.”  Josh said.

Ben freshened the drinks and Jason served the appetizers while everyone was waiting for Beau.

Beau came charging in and said, “That was so embarrassing.  The guy who was measuring us asked which side of our pants our penis and testicles usually were and then he moved our shorts.”

Beau suddenly stopped when he realized the Coopers were there.  He was embarrassed and said, “Ma’am. I’m sorry for my outburst.  I’m never singing at another wedding.  Poor Chip received the same treatment.”

Josh looked at Beau and said, “Son, just go get ready for dinner.  Everything will seem better after you eat.”

“Yes Dad.” Beau said, as he left and changed.

When he returned, everyone sat down and Josh served the dinner.  After dinner, Beau and Jason cleaned up and Beau said, “I have to go practice for this wedding.  He went to the Coopers and said, “I’ll see you tomorrow.  Dad and Pop, I’ll be back before dark.  Beau took off on his bicycle for our house.

Jeff had Denny and Beau practiced the songs that Cheryl and Todd wanted them to sing.  They sang them twice and Jeff said, “You guys will wow them.”

The Coopers had gone and Jason and some of his friends were in the pool. Beau just shed his clothes and dove in and started to swim.  It was apparent that he was trying to get rid of his pent up emotions.  He was the last person out of the water and Josh helped him cover the pool.

Beau changed and went and took a shower and came down in only dry briefs.  “Dads, I know I can’t solve everyone’s problems but why can’t people be kind to their parents and take care of them?”

Beau told them the stories of the two places that he had been today.  The guys had already heard the Coopers’ version, so it was interesting to hear what Beau had to say.”

“Beau, everything will work out for the best.  Just give it time and don’t try to fix it tomorrow.” Ben said.

“I’m sorry Dads, but I want everyone to feel needed.”  Beau kissed the two guys and went to his room.  He came back down and asked, “How come we haven’t seen the Leavitt boys.  Is something wrong?”

Ben held Beau and said, “Beau, Judge Leavitt and Mrs. McDowell stopped by yesterday afternoon and said you have created two hornets and they weren’t referring to Luke and Mark.  Evidently their parents have been in high gear ever since the guys got back from their trip on Saturday.”

There was a knock on the door and Josh went to answer it and the Leavitts came in with Mrs. McDowell.  Beau grabbed a pillow covered himself.”

Judge Leavitt said, “Forget it Benson.  We’ve already seen you in your briefs and you are even more stunning close up with your tan.  Now we have a problem.  The guy’s parents have practically kept them under house arrest since Luke and Mark returned home.”

“Mark and Luke came back so much more mature and it was evident that they had bonded with David and Boris and their parents can’t accept that there was not anything sexual in what happened.”  Mrs. McDowell said.

Judge Leavitt added, “All four of the guys who had been on the trip returned on Saturday on emotional high, but when the two young guys kissed David and Boris it was like there their parents totally lost control.  They have had all four guys under house arrest.”

Beau got up forgetting about his state of dress and went to the phone and dialed.  “Hi Mr. Leavitt, this is Beau, and don’t hang up.  I’m just calling to tell you that I’m going to report you for child abuse and if I don’t see those sons of yours who would like to go running in the morning, I’ll call the Child Protection Service and Chief O’Brien of the police department and report you and your wife.”

“Just to let you know, both of your Mothers are sitting here in our living room frantic at how narrow minded you and your wife are.   Good night sir.  I’ll see your sons at 6:15.  I suggest that you and your wife seek some counseling to help you be better parents.”  Beau hung up and came back and sat down.

“Beau, I can’t believe what you just did.” said Mrs. McDowell.

Beau said, “I’m not sure what I said, but I meant every word of it and I’m going to bed since there should be a couple of guys here in the morning to go running.”

He disappeared up the stairs and the ladies left for home.

Editor's Notes:

Beau doesn't do anything half way. If he sees a wrong he will do what ever he can to make it right. I wish there were more people in the world that were half as caring as he is.
