Chapter 2
Concrete Evidence

Saturday morning, Jeff got up and did some exercises.  Beau called and told him to get his butt to his house since Beau and Father Wanamaker were going to be running.

The three guys started the run and when Jeff got back, he said, “Beau wants me to take care of a few things for his party on Monday.  His poor Dads are going to be exhausted.”

Jeff and I took a leisurely shower and we both decorated the shower wall with our body fluids.

At Josh and Ben’s house, Beau fixed breakfast and after everyone was ready, Ben dropped Jason and Davey at Spencer’s house and Beau at the Antique Shoppe.

Spencer had ten lawns that needed to be mowed and trimmed.  Les dropped Jeremy and Roddy off also.

Jonathan, Berto, Denny and Danny arrived at the Antique Shoppe and Beau had them cleaning and rearranging the furniture when Mrs. Hightower came in.

“Wow, this place looks so different.  You can really see how things would look.  I’m impressed.” she said, as she looked around.  “Although it’s all beautiful, I don’t see anything that strikes my fancy.  It’s just not quite what I am looking for.”

“Ma’am, we have four garages filled with items that haven’t gotten to the Shoppe yet.  Mr. Cooper, could you drive us to the garages, so Mrs. Hightower can see the things that we haven’t been able to move here yet?” Beau asked.

They started in the garage with Beau’s things.  Mrs. Hightower saw something she liked and Beau pulled out the head board and went into the house and got the lemon oil and a cloth and went to work and the piece sparkled.  He started to examine it and found a marking.  He showed it Mrs. Hightower and said, “Ma’am this furniture was handcrafted in the Catskills in 1852, according to the marking.  Look at the craftsmanship.  I bet we could get $7500.00 for the set at least, since there is a dresser and armoire and two end tables plus the bed,”

Beau stopped and thought and said, “Since this furniture is mine, we’ll let you have the works for $6000.00.  Now, would you like to visit the other garages?”

“Yes please, this is so exciting.”  Mr. Hightower said.

Mrs. Cooper, who had gone with them, said, “Ma’am, I haven’t seen any of these things, so I’m excited too.”

Berto wasn’t saying anything, but was watching and listening to what was going on and to what Beau was saying.

They visited the other three garages, and Mrs. Hightower said, “There are some beautiful things here.  I guess I need to go home and think about what else I want to do.  I definitely want the set of yours, in the first house.”

Beau said, “We have another shipment being picked up on Wednesday, which probably won’t be unloaded until Thursday morning.  I have had the opportunity to see the items and there are some wonderful pieces.  Tell your friends to stop by, because things will probably be moving fast.  Now let’s get back to the store and you can pay and make arrangements for the delivery.”

When they got back to the store, Denny and Danny were both busy with customers and another couple came in. “We’d like to look at your antiques.”

Beau said, “Berto, you’re up.  Will you please help these people?”

Berto was very smooth; with the assistance of Beau, he had sold them $4000.00 worth of goods.  Beau had Jonathan go to the next people and he introduced himself.  They were looking for some used furniture, and since Denny and Danny were busy.  Beau helped Jonathan make a sale.

All of the guys had made at least one sale and the store finally emptied. Beau went to the Coopers and Weavers and announced.  “We’re leaving.  You have already sold more in three hours than you have in some weeks.  We’re out of here.  We’re growing boys.  Oh by the way, the Antique Shoppe gets 10% of the sale in the garages, and the owners get 90%.  So that means you made $600.00 from selling furniture you didn’t even have in the store yet, and I have no idea how much the other guys sales were today.”

“We'll see you on Monday at my house when we drown your grandson.  Bye, our ride is here.”  Beau said, as he left.

The guys climbed into the van and Denny said, “Beau, you didn’t even give the Coopers and Weavers time to pay us.”

“Hey, none of us needs the money right now, and I’m sure we’ll get our money on Monday if not before.  Now chill.”

Ben dropped the other four guys off and as they were riding home, Beau said, “I hope I haven’t bitten off more than I should have with Jeremy and Roddy.  I so want them to be happy, and have a good life.”

Ben stopped the van along the side of the road and wrapped his arms around Beau and said, “Que Sera, Sera.  I agree that what you’re doing is rather unheard of, but we’re so very proud of you for caring and being brave enough to do it.  But you and Jeff need to stop taking in all the strays that come along.  I guess this is really my fault, and I would never have a plan laid out this fast like you have done.”

Beau looked at Ben and kissed him and said, “Thanks Granddad, I needed that.”

When they got home, Josh said, “Beau, the people from Peoria won’t be here until tomorrow because Tommy’s flight was very late getting in yesterday.  They are spending the night in the Amana colonies.  They said they would here about three, tomorrow afternoon and don’t want to do anything special tomorrow night.”

“Okay Dad, I’ll fix some grub and then we can plan the rest of the weekend.  Where is Jason?”  Beau asked.

He’s with his friends.  He’ll be here for dinner.  I told him to be home by 5:00.” Josh said.

“Okay, you two go relax and have a drink.  I have some calls to make and then I’ll start dinner.”

Beau hadn’t anymore than said that than the phone rang.  “This is Beau. … How may I direct your call? … Oh hi, Mr. Everett, yep, I’m home. … Oh you’ll be here in thirty minutes. … Who should I have here? …  No ladies … Okay sir; I’ll get Doctor Dad and Jeff, Father Wanamaker and Doctor Crane and my Dad and Granddad.  … Oh, you think we should have a law person here too. … Let me see what I can do.”

Beau hung up and called Jeff and me and said, “Get here now; Mr. Everett has something he wants to share.”

He called Les and Dale and said, “Your presence is required and don’t bring the boys.”

He called Chief O’Brien, “Chief, this is Beau.  Can you come over to my new Dad’s house now? … It’s very important.”

He made one more call, “Uncle Dan, can you come over to our house on semi official business, immediately?”

Jeff and I arrived first followed by Dale and Les.  Mr. Everett arrived and Beau asked, “What equipment do you need sir?”

“Just a VHS player and a screen on which to watch a tape.” Mr. Everett said.

Dan and Chief O’Brien arrived.

Beau led everyone into the family room and said, “I need to explain what this is about for those of you who are not aware of what has been happening.”  He explained Jeremy and Roddy’s situation and explained why he was involved.

“Judge Leavitt said her hands were tied, unless we could get some concrete evidence.   I called Mr. Everett and asked him to see what he could find out.  I called him yesterday evening.  Now, I assume you must have some graphic evidence for us since you requested that there be no ladies present.”

“Beau, I think I have all the damaging concrete evidence, thanks to Mr. Ziegler, that you will need to keep the two boys away from their father for the rest of their lives.  Let me start the tape.”  Mr. Everett said.

The tape showed a man and a young boy having sex.  Their faces were clearly visible Beau got up and turned the tape off and said, I think we have seen enough.  Mr. Everett, can you positively identify the gentleman?”

“Yes Beau, that was Mr. Ziegler.”  Mr. Everett answered.

Beau turned to Dale and asked, “Father Wanamaker, can you identify the young person in the video?”

“Yes, that is Jeremy who is now at Doctor Crane’s house.” Dale answered.

“Thank you.  Everyone sit tight, or perhaps better yet, Dad, take everyone upstairs and get them a drink.  Jeff, get the video tape, please.  I’ll be right back.”  Beau said as he disappeared.

Beau went next door and the Leavitt’s were sitting on their deck.  Beau asked, “May I speak to you Judge Leavitt?  It’s important, but its business.  We have some very definitive concrete evidence that I don’ think you should watch.  It should be sealed.  There are nine gentlemen at our house who saw enough of the video to know that what Jeremy told us was the truth.”

“Why don’t you both come over so Judge Leavitt doesn’t feel threatened?”  Beau said.

Mr. Leavitt said, “Beau, I don’t get involved in Marilyn’s work, nor does she mine.  I’ll pass.”

“I apologize for interrupting you in your free time, but this is important.”  Beau said as he escorted Judge Leavitt to the house.

Judge Leavitt looked at the assembled people and said, “Beau, I know everyone, so now where is the concrete evidence?”

Jeff handed Beau the video tape.  Beau said, “This video shows a man having sex with a boy.  It confirms that what Jeremy said was true.  Mr. Everett, would you tell Judge Leavitt who the man in the video was?”

“Judge Leavitt, the man was Mr. Ziegler.  I have met with the man three times, so I can positively say that.” Mr. Everett said.

“Father Wanamaker, would you tell the Judge who the young boy in the video was?” Beau asked.

“Yes, it was Jeremy.” Dale answered.

“Judge, would you like to sit down?  Do you have any questions?’  Beau asked, as he offered her a seat.

“Yes, where did you get this tape, and was it obtained legally?” she asked.

Mr. Everett said, “Ma’am, it was obtained legally from the Cuming County Sheriff’s office.  It was one of ten tapes that Mr. Ziegler had made, and the tapes were taken by the sheriff’s department in a search with a search warrant.  Mr. Ziegler is being held without bail, until he is arraigned on Tuesday.”

Judge Leavitt asked, “I don’t suppose you know if there are any living relatives?”

Mr. Everett said, “I spoke with Mr. Ziegler, just before I came back this afternoon.  He told me that there was a maternal grandmother who was still alive, but is an invalid and lives in retirement home in Norfolk.  The only other relatives are some distant cousins who live in California and he has no idea where they live.  Mr. Ziegler has no idea where his sons are.  He told me they just disappeared one day, while he was at work.”

“I told the Sheriff I assumed that the boys were in Fremont, since Beau was involved but didn’t, and still don’t, know their exact whereabouts.”  Mr. Everett said.

Beau asked, “Judge Leavitt, do you have any other questions?  What do you want us to do now?”

Judge Leavitt said, “First, call the Cuming County Sheriff’s office and tell them where the two boys are staying.”

“I’ll take care of that, since I assume that they are staying with Les and the Wanamakers according to Danny.”  Dan said.

“Does anyone have a safe to put this tape in?” the Judge asked.

Beau handed me the tape and said, “Done.”

“Ev, can you have a full written report on my desk by three o’clock on Tuesday?  Ben likewise.  Dale and Les, can you have the two boys and Mrs. Wanamaker at my chambers at 3:30 on Tuesday?  Beau, I want you there also, and bring the tape.”  Judge Leavitt said.

“Dan, you let me know what you find out if anything, from the Cuming County Sheriff.  Beau, you get Norm to draw up adoption papers just in case, and Chief you tell Carolyn to plan on being in my chambers by 3:30 on Tuesday.”

She stood and said, “Since I am seeing most of you Monday, I will not talk business under any circumstance.  Is that understood, Beau?”

Beau said, “I’ll have to think about it, to see if I can understand what you said.  Thanks for coming Judge, and I apologize for interrupting your free time.  Jeffrey honey, would you walk this lovely lady back to her castle and apologize to her prince charming for me.”

Beau turned to Mr. Everett and asked, “Sir, how much do I owe you?  I’ll write the check now, to save time.”

“Beau, this one is on me.  I am just glad that I had a role in putting that monster behind bars.  I didn’t even tell you all the gruesome details.  When I got to his place last night, he answered the door naked from the waist down and a certain feature of his body was very aroused.  He had a bottle of vodka in one hand and was masturbating.”

“He asked me to come in and when I saw what he was watching, I excused myself and called the sheriff’s office.  Now, if you will excuse me.  We are having a birthday party for two of our grandchildren.  Beau, don’t call me.  I’ll call you.”  Mr. Everett said, as he left.

Beau said, “Doctor Dad, you call Uncle Norm and alert him as to what is happening. Father and Doctor C., don’t say anything to the boys about what is going on.  Let them enjoy the weekend.”

Everyone had left except Jeff and me and all of a sudden Beau collapsed.  I knelt beside him and took his pulse.  Jason came in just then and asked, “What’s wrong with Beau?”

As soon as Beau heard Jason, he sat up and said, “Nothing, fat boy.  I was just checking these old men’s reactions, in case we have a heart attack or something.  Come on Jeff and Jason, we need to find some jail food to eat.”

The three guys went into the kitchen and we could hear them laughing.  Finally Jason came and said, “Your gruel is ready in the kitchen.  We ain’t cleaning the dining room tonight.”  He dashed away.

As we were sitting down, the phone rang; Jason answered and handed the phone to Beau.

“Hi, Doctor Carpenter … You were wondering what? …  Let me check.”

Beau turned and said, “The Carpenters and Easley’s want me to sit with their eight boys.  They’ll all be spending the night at the Carpenters.”

Josh said, “Fine with us.  We’ll be here if you need us.”

“Doctor Carpenter, I’ll be there at 7:00.  Thanks for calling.” Beau said, as he hung up.

We were eating and Jason said, “Granddad and Dad J., now that Beau isn’t going to be here, and Grandma Ginny and Aunt Evelyn aren’t arriving until tomorrow, may I have a slumber party?  I’ll just ask Davey, Lenny and Larry.”

Ben raised his hands and said, “Why not?”

Jason excused himself and made two phone calls.  When he came back, he said, “The guys will be here at 7:15.”

Dinner conversation was lively.  Jeff said, “Beau, I have a large tent top reserved and Tyler and Kevin will pick it up and Kenny and Drew will help set it up.”

Josh asked, “Beau, exactly how many people are going to be here on Monday?”

“Oh, I ordered food for 150 people.  Mr. Martin said he would make sure there was lots of food and utensils.”  Beau smiled and said, “You need to make sure that we have enough things to make two kinds of punches and whatever else to drink.  I just figured it was easier to have the club take care of the food and eating utensils.  Besides, it’s already paid for.”

“Father W. has arranged for us to get chairs and tables from the church.  Let me know if I forgot anything.” Beau said as he got up and rinsed his dishes.  He went and got his backpack and came back.

“Can someone please take me?”  he asked.

I flipped my keys to Jeff and the two of them left.  The rest of us helped with the dishes.  Jeff came back and we were getting ready to leave when three nine year old boys came bounding in with their backpacks.

I turned to Josh and Ben and said, “So much for your time alone.”  Jeff and I laughed and headed home.

We had just sat down when Mrs. Tillison walked in.  “To what do we owe this pleasure of your visit?” Jeff asked.

Mrs. T. said, “What’s going on with the problem that Mr. Everett is involved with?”

Jeff said, “Grams, Beau already has it resolved with Mr. Everett’s help.  The custody and adoption proceedings are scheduled for Tuesday at 3:30.  We weren’t invited.  Jeremy and Roddy’s father is in jail and after Tuesday he will never see his sons again.  Oh and Mr. Everett didn’t even charge Beau for his work.”

“Wait a minute, Ev never does anything for free.  It must have been really sordid.”  Mrs. T. said.

“Ma’am, the concrete evidence is such that it is not fit to be viewed by anyone, and Beau has asked Judge Leavitt to seal it so it can never be seen by anyone.” I said.

“Jack, get me a double scotch on the rocks.  I don’t care if I am driving or not.  I think I have been replaced by my Grandson.” Mrs. T. said.

She took a sip of her drink and said, “Hey, between Jeff and Beau, Fremont is in good hands.  I’m so proud of both of them.  Now, about this party on Monday, how many people has Beau invited?”

Jeff said, “Beau said he thought there would be about 150 people and he has everything under control except for a few small details.  He has the club catering the meal and Mr. Martin has assured him that there would be lots of food in case more people showed up.”

“Mrs. Tillison threw up her hands and said, “Now, I have been replaced from my role of the matriarch of Fremont society by a wimpy 13 year old.  Jack, get me another drink.  It’s so boring at my house since everyone is out except for Cora and she is in her room.  She’s saving energy for tomorrow and Monday.”

Finally, she got up and to go and said, “I guess I need to go get recharged like Beau does.  He is a remarkable young man.”

Jeff walked her to the door and she turned to Jeff and said, “You know this is all your fault.”  She kissed him on the cheek and left.

Jeff and I locked up and went to bed where Jeff had me make love to him and we just cuddled afterwards in the mess we had made.  There was no one around to know.

Editor's Notes:

He he he, I know; I wonder if I should tell Beau? I bet he could use it for something later.  That rotten father didn't get anywhere near as much punishment as he should have. Well, maybe he will later. I sure hope so.
