Chapter 22
 The Rest of the Day

Everyone had left and Linda announced, “A light Sunday snack will be ready in 15 minutes.  Everyone was starting to gather when in burst Teddy.  “Hi everyone, this has been a great day.  It really got jump started when Jeff and his Dad and the guys walked into the Red Lobster.  Kyle made a table for fourteen.  We had great food. Then we went to a movie and Spencer almost went into shock.”

“When he saw the price of the movie, he said, ‘I am not paying that much money to see a dumb movie, I’d rather give my money to the needy.  I’ll sit here and wait for you to come out.’”

“Bobby said, ‘You heard what my parents said, the four of us are to stay together at all times.  That was why they made us go to the bathroom at the restaurant.  Here, I’ll pay for your ticket.’”

“‘Forget it. I’ll pay for myself, but it’s still a waste of money.’ Spencer said.

When we got to the snack bar, Spencer made us analyze how to save money.  The three of us wanted to get individual boxes of popcorn but he convinced us that if we got one big bucket, it would be like we were getting a free box.  When Toby wanted to get a big coke for himself, Spencer almost went ballistic.”

“Spencer said, ‘If you drink all that by yourself, you will have to go the bathroom several times and then we will all have to go.  Why don’t we all share a giant coke and get four straws and that way we won’t spend so much money either.’”

“We had a great time and the movie was good.  When we were leaving, I had to go to the bathroom of course, and it was like I had three body guards.  There was no way anyone was going to get close to me.” Teddy finished.

We sat down for our roast beef au jus sandwiches and salad, we were just finishing when the phone rang.  Teddy answered, “Yes, let me get him sir.  General Beauregard, it’s for you.”

Beau was talking as everyone was clearing the table.  Kenny and Drew just walked in.  Before they could say much, Beau came bouncing in.  “Howdy guys, I have some questions for you.  If I get the correct answers, you owe me twenty bucks for each answer I get correct.  Number one, you went and saw the movie 300.”  The guys nodded yes.

“Number two, you decided to go the Red Lobster for dinner, because Dina wanted to see what nonverbal communication was really like?”  The guys nodded again.

“Number three, as soon as the hostess saw you, she went and got Kyle before you asked.”  The guys looked perplexed, but nodded yes.

“Number four, Kyle came and got you.  He was just about to leave, but went back on duty just to serve you. Right?”  The guys nodded.

“Number five, you started your meals with V. daiquiris.  The ladies had banana and you two guys had strawberry.  Then you all had the two item plate with fried shrimp and crab cakes with French fries and you split two lobster tails.  Is that correct?”  Drew and Kenny were shaking their heads and nodded.

Now number six, you clowns thought you would be funny, so each put a quarter at your places but Kyle walked you to the front and when the ladies stopped in the powder room, you each slipped a $20.00 bill deep in the front of each pocket.  Right?  The problem being is that you kept your hands there longer than necessary.”

“Now the final question, you stopped and filled Drew’s car with gas before you brought the car back for Doctor Dad to use. Right?”  Beau said, as he started to laugh.

They both shook their head yes and Kenny said, “There is no one that knows about the gas, so I have no idea how you could know all of this information.”

Beau walked behind Kenny and reached into Kenny’s front pocket.  He felt around and said, “Here it is. Catch it Mickey.”   He turned and pretended to throw something.  He looked at Kenny and said, “There sure wasn’t anything else down there.  Mick maybe you should search Drew.”

Drew laughed and said, “Don’t even try.” As Kenny and Drew grabbed Beau and started to turn him upside down.

“I surrender.”  Beau yelled.

The guys put him down and said, “We want the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.”

Beau started laughing and said, “I was talking to Kyle, when you walked in.  He asked if everyone in Fremont were clones of Jeff, and then told me what you guys had done.  I guessed about the gas because that's the way you guys are.  Oh, and he said he talked to Mr. Horner and they would be here on Saturday and wants Jeff to call him. Now I have to call Denny, and see if he can get some money out of Lori.”

He went and made a phone call and said, “Hi Mrs. Johnson, this is Beau.  May I please talk to your wimpy son?”

“Dennis, there is someone on the phone that wants to talk to our wimpy son by the name of Beau.” she called.

“Tell the General, I’m on my way.” he called back.

Denny came down the stairs and handed his mother some papers.  “Please read this and see if it makes sense.  Hi, General Beauregard, what’s up?  … You’re kidding, that’s so funny.” As he was hanging up, Denny said, “I will tell you tomorrow what happened.

Denny went into the living room and asked, “May we please have a family meeting?”

Everyone agreed and he started on Lori.  When he finished he said, “Okay you owe me $100.00 and I want it in single green bills with Mr. Washington’s picture on them so I can pay my share of the skate boards that we’re getting the guys for their birthday.”

“Now, I would like to apologize to everyone for the way I have behaved the past year and half plus.  I guess I have really screwed up my life.  I am going to tell you all the entire story, and I would appreciate it if you would not interrupt.  Mother and Lori, it is going to get a little graphic, so I’ll understand if you choose to leave.”

Denny told his family the entire story.  While that was happening, we were also having a family meeting at Sammy’s request.

When everyone was settled, Sammy apologized for his behavior.  He paid special attention to Beau, Jeff and Teddy telling them that he really didn’t mean what he had said.  He handed each of us an envelope and then added, “Please don’t hate me.” as he left for his room.

Before anyone could say anything or read their letter, the phone rang.  Jeff answered and said, “We’re all right here, so please come on over.”  He turned to us and said, “That was Denny’s parents and they want to visit with Dad, Beau, Mickey and me.”

Everyone else disappeared.  We were sitting and reading when the door bell rang.  Beau jumped up and opened the door and said, “Good evening sir and ma’am, how may I announced you?   He said as he took their coats.

He came into the room and said, “Mrs. Maria and Mr. Casey Johnson to see you sirs.”

Beau continued, “This is Doctor Dad, Doctor Jack Wilson.  This is Doctor Dad’s son Jeff, the boss, Wilson.  This is the Mighty Mickey but you might want to call him Michael Smith.  He is Jeff’s brother.”

Mr. and Mrs. Johnson were looking confused, and I greeted them and said, “It's good to see you again Maria and Casey.  Don’t even try to guess what is going on, because it is a long story and I don’t think that is why you came.  Now Beau, tell them who you are, please.”

“I am Beau Benson.  I am related to no one.  I arrived here last Thursday when Jeff plucked me out of the home.  I am having a fantasy of unbelievable magnitude.  I am almost afraid I’m in for a big fall.  Now let’s cut the chase.  You came to talk about Denny, so let’s proceed.”

“Beau, you are right.  We just wanted to see who it was that caused such a big change in Denny to occur.” Casey said.

“For the first time in over a year and half, Denny answered a phone call when Beau called, and he handed me a writing assignment to read that talked about you four people.  After the call, he terrorized his sister and then he told us the entire story of what had happened between him and that Brady.”  Mrs. Johnson began to cry.  “We don’t know where to go.  Should we insist that he go to a counselor or what?”

Beau spoke up and said, “Mr. and Mrs. Johnson, don’t even suggest that he go to a counselor.  I’m afraid that might cause him to withdraw again, because he would think that you didn’t trust him.  Be supportive of him.  He is going to experience some tremendous highs and probably an equal amount of lows, but support him no matter what.”

Mickey intervened, “I agree with Beau.  He will have Chris and me to support him at school.  Dr. Josh and Dr. Ben will probably be more than glad to help, and he already knows them.  But the most important support for him will probably come from Beau and Jeff.  They will find a way to help him whenever he needs help.  Now, if you will excuse me please, I really need to go to bed.  It has been a really long day.  He shook the Johnsons' hands and gave me, Jeff and Beau a big hug and went upstairs.

Mr. Johnson looked at his watch and said, “I’m so sorry.  I had no idea what time it was.  Thanks for talking to us.  I just hope we can do what is right for Denny.”

Beau spoke up and said, “If you listen and talk with him when he wants to talk, and be non judgmental, and permit him to use his support systems to get the help he might need, he will be fine.”

Beau hugged them both as he got up.  Jeff and I shook their hands as we ushered them out.  When the Johnsons had left, Jeff asked.  “Okay, Mr. Freud time for bed.”

Beau hugged us and took off to get ready for bed.  Jeff and I locked up and had just crawled into bed when Beau knocked and came in and jumped on us.  He gave both of us a kiss on the lips and went back to the sofa in the den.

Jeff hugged me and said, “I love you, Dad.” and he was gone for the night.

To be continued...
