Chapter 27

It was no surprise to John and Rose that their two boys did not appear in time for breakfast and they left them sleeping while they went off to the local garden centre. "This time, I agree with Al. Thank you Cal. But with three of us we can get the back and front lawns cut and cleared away and then head off together." Bradley said.

"Bradley it's very kind of you to offer but you don't need to. I'll help Cal if you two want to get away for a bit." John said.

"No John, you've had to go work all week. Have a break and the three of us will tackle it okay." Bradley insisted.

"But let's also be honest with each other and if we're having a problem with something then we must be free to tell each other and discuss it." Callum said.

"Isn't that what we're doing now?" Alexander asked.

"Yes, I guess it is. Okay, we know that works so let's just go with it and let life happen." Callum agreed.

"Now that we've got that sorted out, what about this idea of your folks to have an all families BBQ?" Bradley asked.

"I think it's bloody fantastic. I just hope he can pull it off and get David's parents along to see how normal people behave." Alexander said.

"Yeah, but I think the tent idea will not work. Sure if we sleep two to a room we can fit using the front room, but I don't think David will be comfortable sleeping with anyone else unless you are also there Squirt." Callum said.

"Now you're thinking like me. That is kind of how I felt when we were talking about the last sleepover in the tent." Bradley said.

"What? You mean Cal has the hots for David?" Alexander said.

"No! And you know that." Bradley said, "I mean Cal is thinking of others and how they will feel about the situation we are envisaging."

"I don't have the hots for David, but he is a nice guy and I do feel very sorry for him. He's losing out on so much life." Callum said.

"Yeah, it's so unfair." Alexander agreed.

"It is that. He got so moved by us giving him that birthday party of sorts. I think if his parents don't let up on him they are going to lose him." Bradley said.

"What do you mean?" Alexander asked. "Do you think he'll run away?"

"Not exactly. I think when he gets a bit older he'll rebel against his parents' rules and begin to do things that could cause a separation between him and his parents. And the sad thing is that he's the one who'll suffer the most." Bradley said.

"Well we'll just have to be even better friends for him then and maybe that will help him to wait his time until he's old enough to make his own choices." Alexander said.

"That's about all we can do." Callum said.

"So, what're we going to do about sleeping arrangements if we aren't going to use the tent?" Alexander changed the subject trying to get back onto something he wanted to know about.

"Well if it comes to all six of us being at the sleepover, then I would think that we could all just sleep in the lounge. If we push the chairs and sofa back there should be enough room to fit both the double air beds in and I'm sure we can squeeze three of us to a mattress." Callum suggested.

"But then ..." Alexander began.

"Yes, it'll mean that you and Brad can't do stuff together. None of us will be able to do that. But I'm sure you can hold out for one night." Callum interrupted showing he knew exactly what Alexander was thinking of.

"We'll just have to have our own sleepovers at some other time." Bradley said pulling Alexander into a hug.

"I wish we could have a permanent sleepover every night." Alexander said.

"You only get that when you get married." Bradley said.

"Or live together as so many seem to do these days." Callum added.

"It does make getting a divorce easier. No legal stuff to go through. Just up and out of there." Bradley observed.

"Well, I suppose we'd better be getting back. What time do you need to be home by Brad?" Callum asked.

"I don't really know. What time is it now?" Bradley asked as he pulled his mobile phone out of his pocket and tapped the screen to wake it up so that he could see the time on it. "Shit, it's nearly six. Maybe I'd better just head straight home from here. Hang on a bit and I'll give the 'rents a call." Bradley tapped the screen a few more times and then held his phone to his ear. After a short conversation which the other two could hear only the one side of Bradley turned to them and said, "Right, let's get back to your place, then I'll be able to thank your folks and have enough time to get home before my dinner spoils. Or at least that's what mum says. She did say that I needed to go home with you two so that I wouldn't be tempted to kiss Al goodbye in the public park."

Alexander's face turned red and then he grinned. "Does that mean you're not tempted to kiss me now?" he teased.

"I'm always tempted. But I've got good, strong will-power. So come on, let's get going before that will-power weakens." Bradley answered.

As soon as they got back to the house Bradley went in search of John and Rose and after thanking them, he hugged Callum and thanked him too.
