Chapter 16
The Party Room

Scott said, “Unfortunately Kris’ wife’s family is having a wedding this weekend so he can’t go.”

“Tell him I was disappointed,” Gary said.

“Of course.  And Ted’s on TDY assignment.”

“That’s just military jargon to say he’s on temporary duty out of town.”

“Let’s see,” Jody said.  “There are a few you haven’t met yet, Gary.  Miguel, Mike, Lawrence, Thomas, Earl, and Arnie are all planning to go, I think.”

“Doug was planning to go, but he’s got some special assignment this weekend or something,” Brandon said.

“Yes,” Jody said.  “But I think he will be joining us tonight.”

“Who else tonight?” Gary asked.

Brandon rang the doorbell and ten seconds later the door flew open.   “Come in here,” CDR Alex Bjorkland said.  Everybody, including Gary, hugged him as they passed into the foyer.  Jody introduced Ryan and Alex hugged him, too.  “Welcome to Norfolk, Ryan.  I hope you’ll have a great time while you’re with us.”

“I’m sure I will,” Ryan answered.
