Author's Note: 7 years...My excuse for not continuing to put this story down in words was in short, life sometimes gets in the way of things you need to do.  I apologize for not finishing the chapters many years ago, and only hope you continue to read and enjoy.  Honestly I had to re-read all of the posted Chapters myself to remember the bits and pieces I had written in 2007.  I love this story and its very personal for me, some of it is hard to write, but let’s continue, shall we?

 Chapter 4
“Semper-Fi”

John looked up at his son walking into the garage with Riley next to him to where he was 'cooling off'.  Jacob tried to speak but the words still weren’t yet there.  Jacob cautiously sat down next to his dad and just sat there quietly patting Riley on the head.

The dead silence broke when John spoke.  “So you’re going to be a Marine huh?”

“Yeah Dad.”  Jacob said as he scooted his foot around and in a circle motion on the floor aimlessly just like Evan would do when he was nervous.

John was remembering the first day he and Evan reunited at the church and he would nervously look down at the ground and kick pebbles as he was speaking to him oh so long ago.  He found himself smiling over recalling what now seemed like a lifetime ago.

“It’s not the choice in life I wanted for you, but I understand better than you think as to why you’ve decided this.  It's the best direction for you right now in your life,” John managed to say.

John realized he had turned into one of those parents that wants his son to be a man but forgot the most important part of being a man.  He had to make his own choices and live with the consequences.  He could only advise him now.  It was up to his son to decide his own road.

“I understand your not being ready for college, and it would be a huge waste of money if you weren’t fully into it, so I guess you just saved me a shit load of bucks,” he chuckled, trying to lighten the mood.

“I think I can now afford that new truck I've always wanted,” smirked John.

Jacob could only nod in agreement to his dad’s conclusions.

He looked at his son and got a stern and serious look on his face and began to give him the "dad" speech that this situation called for:  “Jake, I understand your decision and I will be one hundred per cent behind you in this.  I don’t like it, but now that it’s done, I will have to except it,” John said in a commanding tone.

“I just want you to know a few things while we are here discussing this,” he went on saying.  “I want you to be the best damn Marine you can be, and I know you will make me proud.  You always have son ... you always have.”

With that, he gave his son the biggest hug he could muster and wouldn’t let go.

After a few minutes Jacob gasped,” Dad ... I can’t breathe.”

John released his son and chuckled to himself a little, having heard that more than a few times before he thought.

John stood up and looked at his son whom he truly was proud of and continued his speech.  “I know you're just going into training right now but there’s a very good chance you are going to be put into harm's way soon. It's going to be nothing that the Marines or life can fully prepare you for.  You are going to see things no one should ever see.  Bad things, man at his worst,” he finished saying.

I want you to promise me one thing and only one,” John demanded.

Jacob stood up and faced his dad and said, “Sure, Dad, anything; just tell me.”

“Jake, I commend you for wanting to serve your country and to be a better man in the Marines, but you have to promise me you will be smart, stay safe, and don’t try to be a hero.  You must come back home to us safe and intact...  I cannot even think of the alternative.  I won't; you understand me, son?” John commanded while tears welled up in his eyes.

“Don’t worry, Dad, I promise, everything will be OK, and when I get my four years in, I will be ready to go to college and get my degree for my future,” Jacob said proudly.

Another hug and a pat on the back ensued and Jacob pulled back and looked into his dad's eyes and said, “I love you, Dad.”

“I love you, too, son.”

John looked down at Riley and then up to Jacob and gave his best-trademarked smirk and said, “Brought the dog in to protect you, didn’t ya?”

“Looks like the Marines have their work cut out for them I guess.”  John laughed at Jacobs’s embarrassment.

Jacob retorted, “Well there’s already been one BLACK-EYE served out this morning, and I sure DAMN didn’t want the second one to be mine!” they both laughed out loud.

On a more serious tone, Jacob grew bold enough to say, “Dad, please don’t be mad at my uncles or at Evan.  It wasn’t anything they could do, and Uncle Tom is your best friend; you hurt him, Dad.  And I have never, EVER, heard you raise your voice at Evan. NOT ONCE, let along say those awful things to him.  He never acted like it even bothered him, and he stood up for you the whole time saying it was his fault.  He deserved it for betraying you.  I can't help but think that he is going to need you even more when I'm away.  You better take good care of him, Dad, “Jacob said, half scolding his dad and half worried about his dad’s friends and partner.

Back deep in Jacob's mind he worried Evan would have a break down and be hospitalized again ... and it would be his fault.  He couldn’t live with that, and when he enlisted, it hadn’t even crossed his young spontaneous mind.  He was only thinking of his own wants.  He knew his dad would have more than he could bear loosing his son and partner at the same time, if that happened.

“I know, son, I was not myself, and I promise ya, I will fix it with all of them, especially Evan.  We had cleared the air and forgave each other already before you came out here.  I love him, son; I will take good care of him.  Another promise I gave to someone I don’t intend on breaking,” John said, being embarrassed.

“Dad!”

“Yeah Jake, what is it?”

“I know ya won’t break your promise to me, ya never broke a single one with me yet, especially when you and Uncle Andy came and got me from Mom.  You were true to your word; I don’t think I ever told ya how much I loved and trusted you that day ... I love ya, Dad,” Jacob said with tears in his eyes.

He had never spoken about the day he and Andy brought Jake home.  He had just assumed Jacob had blocked it out or just simply was too young to remember it.  John always tried to protect his son from any unpleasant events with Jacob and his mom.  He had never once said a bad thing about her to him.  He would make excuses and fib on the truth to protect him from an unfit parent till he was old enough to figure it out on his own.  He could at least protect him from that.  Jacob found out later on his own how his mom cared and treated him in his teenage life.  Missing birthdays and never calling for months or years at a time.  Once again in the same day, he was without words.

John could only turn to his son and grab and hold onto him again as he tried to fight back the tears.  John managed a teary-eyed “I love you, too, son.”

The embrace finally broke between father and son and they both tried to get themselves together before exiting the garage to face the others.

As they left the garage and entered the back yard, John said one last thing to Jacob. “Jacob, my son, I know this morning was hard for you and I bet you’re glad you have seen it through,” John said as he walked with his son.

“Oh, man, you can say that again; I have been sweating bullets for a while about telling you,” Jacob chuckled.

John put his arm on Jake’s shoulder and smirked back, “Well the worst is still yet to come MY BOY, but I'm sure you are ready now to face your Grandma with the news.”

Jacob tensed up and all he could manage to breathe out was, “Awwww Fuuuuck!”

As they entered the back door to the kitchen, they were being watched intensely by the gang at his table.  The breakfast had been cleaned up and everyone was sipping coffee in silence.  John went over to Tom and put his hand on his shoulder as Andy watched like he was ready for a cop in go-mode or something.

Tom flinched a bit as John looked at him and asked, “Tom, can you ever find it in your heart to forgive me buddy?  I’m so sorry, dude.”

Tom got up out of his chair and hugged him and said, “Say no more, bruiser, all is forgiven.”

“Seriously, Tom, you’re my best friend;  I had no right man ... I’m so fucking sorry, dude,” John said, shamedly.

“I SAID ... say no more, you tall dense fuck, it’s cool, man!”  Tom smiled at John.

Andy seemed to relax some and everyone laughed at Tom’s reply until John grabbed him up and bear-hugged him then planted a big kiss on his cheek knowing that would freak him out and get him going.

Andy began laughing even harder and Tom just glared at him then pushed John off him saying, “Good God, what did they do to you out there, and don’t ever fucking do that again or I swear I’m gonna fuck you up, you big ol’ fagot.”

“I’m outta here and hitting the pool; you’re all too weird for me,” Tom said, embarrassed.  All the emotions were too much for him to deal with.  Andy just smiled and ran after him to join the pool fun on this late summer day.

Jacob went up to his room to take a nap since it had been an exhausting morning, and he hadn’t had much sleep the night before.  John and Evan were left alone in the kitchen and no words had yet been spoken between them since Evan and he made up in the garage.

John looked at his mate, smiled, then went over and picked him up and hugged Evan tightly.  He reciprocated and they held their embrace for what seemed like ten minutes.  John pulled away and smiled and kissed his lover deeply.

“What was that for?” Evan asked, surprised by John's mood.

“I’m just sorry and hope you still forgive me for being an ass to you earlier; I don’t know how I could have said those things to ya,” John said, looking ashamed and uneasy.

“I told you it’s OK; I understand ... now let’s just move on; I love you and there’s nothing more to say about it,” Evan said, smiling.

John looked around as if he was making sure they were alone and then looked at his handsome mate.  He moved Evan's dark hair away from his face and said, “You were right as usual.  He was worried about me being mad at him, but I think he was more worried about you.”

“Me ...?  Why me?” Evan asked, perplexed.

“He's worried you will not be OK later and made me promise to take good care of ya while he was away.  He loves you so much, ya know,” John said, smiling.

“Ev...  I know you love him with all your heart but I don’t think you really understand how much he loves you as his other parent.  So much, sometimes I find myself a bit jealous of your special bond the two of you have,” John admitted.

Evan didn’t say anything but only smiled and hugged his lover harder than ever with tears forming in his eyes.

John broke their embrace and made it clear he was going to go join the boys in the pool and start drinking early today, try to relax and have a good time.

Evan replied, “I’ll be right there; I need to go upstairs and get my trunks.”

“Bring some more beer when you come out, we’re gonna need lots of it today.”  John laughed.

John darted out the door and Evan heard a loud yell, then a big splash as John soaked everything in his wake with the laughter of Andy and Tom that followed.

Evan went upstairs and as he went by Jacob's room, he peeked in at him, out cold, on his bed sleeping like he had been there for hours.  He thought to himself that the boy had a hard day and needed a nap after all the stress he had been under.  Evan was jealous of the sleep ... it was a stressful day!

He noticed that Jacob looked just like the younger, shorter version of John that he had fallen in love with all those years ago.  For some reason alien to Evan, he hadn’t noticed it before today.  He fell in love with the older, larger John almost immediately, but deep inside he still missed the boy he grew up with and until now, he saw that in Jacob.  He loved him so much, but it wasn’t the same, he loved him like a parent, and now really for the first time he knew Jacob loved him the same way.

Evan smiled to himself and went to get his trunks and then proceeded downstairs to the pool in the back yard.

He could now hear Riley barking and knew Tom must be tormenting him somehow.

“Keep poking the bear, ya dumb-ass,” Evan muttered to himself and laughed.

Evan joined the boys at the pool and, as promised, he brought more beer for them.  The morning turned into afternoon and it was a nice warm summer day to be in the pool.  Jacob joined them after his short nap.  Andy and Tom took turns dunking their nephew, and John just chuckled at the site of his boy doing well, up against stronger men.  Although, to be honest, he thought his son could take Tom if he really wanted to.  Jacob was muscular and Tom was in good shape but nothing like Andy or Jacob.  John was hungry since he didn’t get to eat his breakfast and he started the grill to cook some steaks and burgers.

The beer flowed and everyone ate a good lunch and by 2pm everyone was a bit tipsy for it being so early in the afternoon.

After lunch and the beers kicked in, everyone was lounging on the patio furniture soaking up the rays.  Evan slipped away and went in the house to get something he had purchased without anyone knowing.

Before anyone knew he had left, he returned with a present.  He stood there looking at everyone and Jacob spoke up and said, “Hey, Evan, you didn’t have to buy me anything; I ain’t leaving till next week.”

Evan just smiled at him and replied, “It’s not for you; it’s for your dad!”

John looked at him and walked up and kissed him, and then said, “What is it?  Why did you buy me something, Ev?” looking confused.

“Everyone … follow me.  I want to give this to John in the front yard.”

Evan heard Tom behind him mutter, “Drama Queen!” as they all walked together.

Evan walked to the front yard by the flagpole with everyone following, and he handed John the box.

John opened it with everyone watching and he pulled out this red garment folded up.  He proceeded to unfold it and then smiled when he realized it was a USMC Marine Flag.

“I think it will go nicely right under the American Flag on the pole, don’t you John?” Evan asked, smiling.

Andy smiled and yelled, “Hell Yeah … Semper Fi!”

John just smiled, agreed, then looked at his boy, and asked him to help raise his new flag.  Jacob smiled ear to ear helping his dad do just that.

Everyone grinned and patted John on the back at his new flag ... He truly was a proud parent as he watched the flag fly in the wind and then down to his boy.  John gave his boy a big hug, then looked at Evan and kissed him there right under those proud flags flying in the wind.  It was official now in Evan's mind.

***

Later that evening, Tom and Andy left and Jacob decided to go out with his friends, leaving John and Evan home alone.

Riley had long ago settled down and fell asleep in the downstairs foyer.  This was the place he usually waited for Jacob to return in the night, or sometimes in the early morning.  He was fourteen now, and he had a difficult time with the stairs.  He was still very active, but his old bones were keeping him from the upstairs.  Evan knew his time was short and was sure he would soon join Tyler in the garden.

John announced half lit, that he was ready for bed and proceeded upstairs to their bedroom.  Evan entered the room a few minutes later to find his mate stretched out on the bed still in his swimming trunks.

He just smiled and went to him and started removing his shorts.  John helped him by raising up and proclaiming, “I’m too drunk and tired to fuck around tonight, Ev.”

Evan didn’t say a word but removed his own clothes and snuggled up against his lover.  He began rubbing John's hairy chest and then down to his soft cock.  Massaging it with one hand while he massaged the rest of his body with his other.  John just moaned slightly and protested he was too tired.  Evan quickly straddled his lover and began rubbing his ass into John's cock that was now beginning to grow harder.

“Damn it, Ev, I said I was too tired, bud!” as he looked up at Evan who was half smiling back at him.

Evan just smiled back and continued to dry hump John's cock that was now fully hard, then spoke back; “Looks like you’re not too tired to fuck me.”

With that, Evan grabbed some lube from the nightstand and greased them both up, and without missing a beat, he inserted John's hard cock into his ass.  He groaned as Evan began to ride his cock with slow and tempered strokes.

“Damn ... that feels good, Ev,” John managed to say without any more protesting.

“I think we both deserve this after the day we had.”  Evan smiled looking into his lovers eyes.

“You know you’re raping me against my will, don’t ya!” John said, trying to sound serious but not being able to NOT smile as he said it.

“Just lay there and shut up, mister,” Evan commanded as he laughed.

“You fucking perv!” John laughed.

Evan increased his pace riding his cock, and with the sounds he was hearing as John moaned, he knew John was getting close, and he began to thrust up his hips pushing his cock deeper into Evan's ass.  He grabbed his own cock and stroked it till he was ready himself, to blow his load all over John's chest.  The both of them moaned and breathed harder as the moment came when they both came almost at the same time.

Evan’s load shot so far it hit John in the face and all over his chest, and shocked and excited John so much, he released his own load deep into his lover’s ass.

Evan lay down on John's wet chest.  John grabbed Evan's head back with his hair and kissed him passionately, then without asking, Evan licked his own cum off the spot where it was on John's face.

John laughed and said, I think I just have been violated against my will.”

Evan kissed him, smiling, and said, “That’s odd ... you seemed to like it an awful lot!”  Then he chuckled.

“You’re so bad, Ev ... I Love you,” John said, and they kissed again.

“I love you more!” Evan replied.

Evan got off John and went to clean himself up, then returned to clean John's cock and chest.  He then got back into bed with his soul mate and curled up to his exhausted lover and within minutes, they both were asleep.

***

Evan took off his summer hat and wiped the sweat out of his eyes and thought to himself, “Holy crap, it’s hot out in the garden today,” as he heard the locust calls in the background.

He put his hat back on and continued to weed his garden that he loved so much.  The peace and happiness he felt there amongst the blooms was heavenly.

On his knees tending his flowers, he heard panting behind him and he automatically looked back to tell Riley to go get in the shade, but before he could speak a word, his eyes deceived him, he thought.  It wasn’t Riley at all, but Tyler standing there looking at him, and then he barked.

“What ... how ... Riley?”  Evan questioned what he was seeing, feeling ....  “This can’t be ... you’re ... you’re ... gone!” he said to himself in his mind.

Riley began barking so loudly that it began to hurt his head and as he spun around to catch himself ... he caught a glimpse of someone standing in front of him with the blaring of the sun making hard for him to see who it was.

Evan put his hand up to his face to block the suns rays as he could see his mom smiling at him as she walked closer.

“Momma ... Mom, is that you?  But how?”

“Don't you worry yourself now, ya here?  You need to be strong now and be there for him.  You can do it ... I know you can ... Just be strong  Evan,” he heard her say, but how could it be, he wondered....?

”Strong for what?  Mom...”I’m doing well, Mom ... I’m doing well!”  Evan pleaded with her.

“Stay strong, Boy; he needs you like you always needed him,” she said.

With that she began to walk away, and the sun’s rays blinded Evan, and he looked away, yelling, “Don’t go; please don’t go....”

The next thing Evan knew, John shaking him as his knelt over him with a worried look on his face.

“Ev ... wake up ... you’re having a bad dream, babe!”

Evan just lay there paralyzed in fear as he tried to make sense out of his dream.

He felt a mixture of dread and sorrow ... he missed his mom.  And he worried about the meaning of what she was saying.

“Evan snap out of it ... are you OK?” John yelled as he worried because Evan wasn’t responding to him.

Finally, to what seemed like an eternity to John, he heard Evan speak.  “Ummm... Yeah, sorry, big guy ... just a bad dream ... I’m OK ... sorry to wake you,” he said, not sure if he even believed it.

“Don’t be sorry, bud; I was just worried about you ... you were yelling, ‘Don’t go ... don’t go!’” John said, worried, and continued.  “A bad dream, my ass ... you weren’t here even after you were awake, you weren’t responding to me ... ARE YOU OK?  Are you getting sick again?”  John worried that his son was right about Evan reacting to him leaving later in his own time.  “He can’t go through the whole hospital thing ... not now ... he just can’t,” he thought to himself.

Evan could see the petrified look on John's face and he knew that he had to be strong and assure him everything was OK ... it was just a dream!

“You want to talk about it?” John asked as he kissed him.

“No, it was just a stupid dream ... Like all the others, it doesn’t mean anything, so don’t worry,” he said as he hugged John and they settled into bed and snuggled.

“I’m really fine, John; it was just a dream.”

“Don't worry, please ... I’m really OK,” Evan tried to reassure his protector.

John stared at the dark ceiling above him thinking to himself and holding onto his lover.

He was scared ... he was worried; he didn’t know why ... he just was.

To be continued...
