Chapter 3
I crept stealthily out of bed, trying not to disturb Andy. I closed the bathroom door and peed, but I also brushed my teeth. When I got back to the bedroom, Andy was lying on his back, snoring lightly. His cock was hard and pointing right at the ceiling.
I couldn’t resist. I leaned over him and took him into my mouth. I started sucking him up and down the shaft and then I wandered to his balls and that wondrous and sensitive spot between his balls and the beginning of his crack. The next time I had him in my mouth, I could feel his hand on my head. Simultaneously, he tousled my hair and pressed my head down lightly. I knew he was awake and urging me on.
As I sucked his cock, I cupped his balls in my palm and applied very light pressure. After a while I could feel his balls shrinking. His breathing became labored and he started to moan. His buttocks began to writhe and then his whole body began to buck. From the depths of his being, he screamed as he exploded into my waiting mouth. I drank his cum like a vampire drinking his victim’s blood. I wanted every drop, and I’d be damned if even one drop missed my waiting throat. I marveled at my lust. Where was it coming from?
When I realized that Andy’s cock was growing smaller, I finally released him. I could hear him begging me to stop and I realized that he had been begging me to stop for some time. In my passion, I had not heard his urgent entreaty.
I pleaded for him to forgive me. I apologized and told him that I didn’t know what had come over me. I climbed into bed next to him and started to sob bitter tears as I asked him once again to please forgive me for hurting him.
He threw his arm around me and pulled me to him. “Hush, my darling. That was wonderful,” he said. “Nobody has ever made love to me with more passion. You didn’t hurt me at all”
Now it was his turn to weep. Andy wanted to assure me that all was well, so he said to me, “Do you remember how wonderful it was when you were very young and had your first awakenings to sex? Consider yourself a pre-teen again. You are just becoming aware of a different kind of sex, and you are finding it just as wonderful. I am thrilled that I am the one to introduce you to this marvelous new form of expression. In your excitement, if you forget yourself and hurt me a little, I don’t mind. It’s not going to take very long for us both to settle in and calm down, but for now, let’s both enjoy the passion, and, yes, the lust.”
I sighed and we both dozed off. I dreamed I was in heaven and my wife came to me. Suddenly I was ashamed of my relationship with Andy, and I wanted to tell her I was sorry, but I couldn’t find the words. She smiled at me, but didn’t speak to me. Somehow, miraculously, she communicated to me telepathically.
“Don’t be upset, my darling,” she said to me without moving her lips. “In life and in death, love is all that matters. Andy and you are not only lucky to have found each other, but your love is blessed and sacred” I reached out to touch her, but she disappeared.
I heard Andy asking me, “Why are you crying again, love? I told you everything is just fine between us.” I was awake now so I turned to him and kissed him. I didn’t dare tell him about my dream, if indeed it was a dream.
I looked at the clock and realized that we had missed breakfast. Suddenly I was hungry for something other than Andy’s proteins. “If you want breakfast,” I said, “we’ll have to make our own.”
“I’ve got nothing in my apartment. Do you have anything?” Andy asked me.
“Well, I can make coffee. I’ve got cold cereal and milk and I can make white toast. I bought it in case I got hungry late at night.”
“I wish I had the foresight,” Andy remarked. “Well, are you going to invite me to breakfast?”
I leaned over him and asked him what he was willing to give me in return for a wholesome breakfast. “Whatever you put on the bill, is yours,” he answered.
“I’ll have to think of something very special,” I teased him.
“I’ll shower and dress at my place and come right over,” he told me. He slipped on his shorts without bothering with underwear, gathered up his other clothes and went to his apartment.
I showered and put on a pair of boxer shorts. Then I set up the coffee, took out the corn flakes box, set out bowls and spoons, and waited for Andy to return.
There is a saying about New York City drivers. The shortest measurable time segment in New York is the time between when the traffic light turns green, and the car behind you honks its horn. I broke the record right then and there. The quickest moment in time is now between Andy’s knock on my door and the time it takes for me to open it.
While we were eating breakfast, I looked out the window. It was another glorious early fall day. I asked Andy if he would like to go back to the beach and resume our interrupted previous day.
“To tell the truth,” he said,” I’d rather hang out here at our pool, and eat lunch and dinner at home and then have a drink or two outside these prison walls.”
That really sounded like a better plan, since we were both exhausted. We stayed in my apartment and cuddled in bed for an hour or so. Reluctantly we dressed and went to the dining room for lunch. We spent the afternoon at the outdoor pool basking in the sun and cooling off in the water. All the while we talked and got to know each other better and better. I told Andy all about my late wife, how we met, our ups and downs, our two sons and any other thoughts that a chance remark of his might trigger.
In turn, Andy told me everything he could about Danny. They loved each other from the moment they met, but when it came to sex, Danny could take it or leave it. At that point, Andy smiled at me and said, “I should have converted a straight guy from the start. Apparently they are much hotter lovers.” In spite of Danny’s lack of interest, Andy swore that he never cheated on him, mainly because he didn’t want to risk bringing any diseases home. He smiled at me lovingly and said, “I had forgotten how great male sex could be until I met you.” When he was sure nobody was looking, he took my hand and squeezed it.
I guess making love to Andy at my age was more exhausting than I thought. At some point, I fell asleep again on the lounge. Fortunately I was in a shady spot. Eventually I was awakened by a slight nudging at my shoulder. “It’s time to get ready for dinner,” Andy said. “I’m going to get some fresh clothes from my place and come over to your apartment. I want to shower with you this evening. I will assume that you won’t object to that.”
I laughed at him and extended my arm, indicating that he should help me out of the lounge. He got me standing and we gathered up our towels and sun block, and headed for the elevator.
I waited for Andy’s knock on my door and broke another speed record opening the door. I wondered if the Olympic Committee would be interested in classifying this activity as a competitive sport. We both stripped quickly and headed for the shower. I turned on the water and Andy got busy adjusting the water temperature. Even though we had no plans for sex for the next few hours, we washed each other and prepared our bodies as if it was going to happen now. Our lips were rarely apart.
It took all our will power to finish the shower, dress and go downstairs to dinner. We were surprised when Tracy came to take our order. “I used to work breakfast and lunch,” she said, but I’m going back to school to study nursing and will only be serving dinner from now on.” We were pleased for her and wished her well.
During dinner, Andy asked me if I wanted to go to the neighborhood bar or to a gay bar. I really had to think about that. On the one hand, not having to travel was a comforting thought. On the other hand, wherever we went in gay environments, Andy met friends. I was anxious to meet the people he knew. My gut reaction was that I would be spending more time in the gay community than in the straight community from now on.
I think I surprised him when I said, “Let’s go to a gay bar.”
“Well fine. You know my favorite place is Tropical Slaves.”
“Not a problem!” I told him. “I like the place too.”
Andy drove, and on the drive down, we agreed that two drinks were our limits. If either of us wanted more, the other would be the designated driver and switch to cokes. Every time we stopped for a light, Andy groped for my crotch and I had to remind him to concentrate on his driving. When we pulled into the parking lot behind the restaurant, we were surprised to see how crowded it was. We were lucky to find one available space.
“I completely forgot,” Andy said, “It’s karaoke night. This is always a lot of fun. Do you sing?”
I shook my head almost ferociously. “How about you?” I asked.
“A little,” he said.
We entered the bar area of the restaurant and it was jam packed. Andy kept saying hello to a host of people, but only introduced me to a few. I figured out that those were the people whose names he could remember. It was so crowded that it took a while to get our first drinks. We joined the crowd standing several tiers deep from the bar, and struck up a conversation with a couple of guys. Andy recognized immediately that they were not Florida residents. He was right. They were from Chicago visiting for the week. They were both named Frank so my name challenged brain could handle that.
Andy went up to the karaoke bar and looked through the list of songs. He wrote something on a card and handed it to the DJ. Andy was right. This was the first time I had attended a Karaoke night and it was great fun. Most of the guys sang so badly, it was actually hysterically funny. Others sang so well, I would have paid to have heard them sing professionally. Finally, the DJ called Andy’s name and he went forward, took the microphone and waited for the music to begin.
The beautiful strains of The Second Time Around, filled the room and Andy began to sing. He sang right to me. Love’s more beautiful the second time around. I wanted to grab him and kiss him hard, but he needed to finish the song. I was amazed. His voice was a deep, rich baritone. It sounded as if he had had training. The noisy room began to hush, and as Andy’s voice rose to a crescendo, he thrilled his listeners. When he was finished, he received a rousing ovation with calls for more, but I could tell that one was enough for him.
“What do you mean you sing a little?” I asked him. “You sounded thoroughly professional.”
“You’re prejudiced,” he responded, and I could tell that he did not want to talk about it anymore. I had a feeling that there was a story behind his dismissive attitude, and I hoped some day to find out what it was.
Between songs, the mood at the bar was festive and very noisy. Andy and I were beginning to think alike. About two hours of the ruckus was all we could take. We looked at each other and nodded an assent. Silently, we had asked one another if it was time to leave, and we had read each other’s thoughts.
When we got in the car Andy asked me if I had had a good time. I assured him that I enjoyed myself enough to want to come back next karaoke night if he promised to sing.
“Not a problem,” he said. “Do you like donuts?”
“Sure,” I answered. “Why do you ask?
There’s an all night Dunkin’ Donut a few blocks from here and I sure would love a cup of coffee,” Andy told me. It was almost said as a plea so I quickly assented.
Actually the coffee at DD is great and I have a weakness for their donuts so it was not a problem to agree to stop. When we were seated and enjoying our simple repast I asked Andy point blank if he had ever had formal voice training.
He sighed deeply and said, “When I was about fourteen, my voice had deepened. A neighbor of mine recognized that I had some talent and urged my parents to get me lessons. They did actually, but things turned out badly. After half a dozen or so lessons, I had to quit. My parents just couldn’t afford it. The worst part was that I had fallen in love with my teacher. He was so handsome, and you should have seen the gyrations he made with his mouth when he was instructing me in how to make a round sound. I kept thinking that his mouth was wrapped around my cock and it was gyrating around my hardon. Not only was I to be denied singing lessons, but I was torn away from the first man I ever loved.”
“Wow,” was all I could say. I vowed never to bring up the subject again.
I slept with Andy at his place that night, but I went home in the early morning hours to shower, shave, etc. When I entered my apartment, I noticed that my answering machine was flashing, indicating that I had a message. I pushed the play button:
“You have one new message and no saved messages,” the robotic voice informed me.
“Yesterday, 9:32 PM.” Pause. “Hi dad, it’s me, Jaden. You know how tough it is getting airplane tickets at a decent price around the major holidays. Well, Bob and I decided to book early, and we got pretty good rates. We’ll be arriving Tuesday before Thanksgiving and leaving the Tuesday after. We hope to miss the major crowds by leaving a little before and a little after the holiday. But the hotel and motel rates are out of sight and we wondered if we could crash in your guest room. Anyway, I am sending you an E Mail with all the flight information. We’ll rent a car and get driving directions from the rental agency. Bob and I are really excited about visiting you. I hope you’re out having a blast. Call me tomorrow. I don’t have to leave for work until 10 AM and I’ll be home after 6 PM. I love you. Ciao.”
I ran to my computer and booted it up. I went immediately to E Mail. I hadn’t checked my mail since I met Andy, and it was full of jokes and ads that I immediately deleted, I finally opened Jaden’s E Mail and printed it out.
Then I did what I came to do, and got dressed for breakfast. Andy was ready before me, and I heard his knock on the door. I opened it immediately, and he asked me right away, “What’s wrong? You’re actually pale.”
I replayed the message for him and showed him the E Mail. “That’s wonderful,” he said, “why the long face?”
“Us,” he said. “I can’t hide us. I love you too much and I am sure I’ll slip up.”
“So tell him,” Andy said. “He’ll be happy for you.”
“I can’t,” I moaned. “Please try to understand.”
“Here’s what I understand,” Andy said. “You told me that Jaden is forty-three years old. He’s never been married; he’s traveling with a male companion, and he wants to share a bedroom with him. When was the last time he told you that he was was seeing a woman? Are you getting a small picture here?”
“You’re crazy,” I answered. “He dated girls in high school and college. He was even engaged once but they broke up.”
“And you were married to a woman for a hundred years. Are you still not getting a picture here?” Andy repeated himself. “Maybe this Bob is someone he is so sure is going to be his partner that he wants to introduce you, and that’s why he’s coming to visit you just now.”
“What if he is gay?” I whined. “I still don’t know if I can come out to him.”
“You’ll see. The first time is the hardest. It gets easier, each time. Besides after a while, people seem to know,” Andy tried to reassure me.
I had nothing more to say so I simply asked Andy to hug me tight.
That night, my hand trembled and I fumbled trying to call Jaden. I had two false starts and finally completed the connection on the third try. When I heard his voice, I relaxed a little. I assured him that he was more than welcome to use the guest bedroom, but the three of us would have to share a bathroom. Jaden laughed and said that it would not be a problem.
I decided to test Andy’s theory. “There are twin beds in the guest room,” I said. There was a long silence, no response from Jaden. Finally, he said, “It doesn’t matter, Dad. The important thing is we’ll be seeing you again.”
I instructed him not to rent a car. I told him that Andy and I did everything together (hint) so he and Bob could use my car. “We’ll pick you up at the airport,” I told him.
After we hung up, I had to wonder why he said ‘we’ll be seeing you again.’ After all, I had never met Bob. Andy’s theory was beginning to look more and more viable. Jaden was talking in the plural, ‘we.’ I could not fathom how I would handle his coming out (if he did), much less mine.
The time flew quickly. Much to my regret, and more so Andy’s, I resumed my four day a week golf and tennis games. Andy used that time to work out at the gym. He worked out more than usual and I swear I could see his muscles growing muscles. It was almost indecent for an old man to look like he did.
We met Andy’s friends for dinner every Wednesday evening at Tropical Slaves, and went to karaoke every Thursday. Andy always sang one song just for me.
Richie and Tony invited us to their home one evening for dinner and we promised to reciprocate after my son went home. I was fast integrating into the gay community.
Andy and I made love almost constantly. It was not a necessity to orgasm. We merely needed to hold each other tight, fondle and cuddle, to achieve near Nirvana. I was madly in love and I prayed that Andy loved me as much as I loved him.
The fateful day crept up on me, and on the Tuesday afternoon before Thanksgiving, it was time to go to the airport to pick up Jaden and Bob. Andy wanted to go with me, but I thought it best to go alone. Before leaving, I called the airline. I think I was hoping the plane would be delayed, but it was scheduled to land ten minutes ahead of schedule.
Suddenly, I was afraid to drive alone in the nervous state I was in, and I changed my mind about Andy going with me. I figured that I really did need his support, and I wanted Jaden and Bob to get used to seeing us together.
On the way to the airport, I screwed up my courage and broached a subject that I had been thinking of for a while. “Andy,” I said, “I want to ask you something.”
“Yes.”
“Now that we are no longer alone, and have each other, would you consider moving out of Carriage House, and into a place of our own?” Andy didn’t answer me so I added, “I wouldn’t care if we rented something or bought something, whatever you think. It would save a lot of money. We both have lots to go on our one year leases so we have plenty of time to talk about it.”
Andy was silent for a while longer. I was getting even more nervous. Finally he said, “Wow, where did that come from? You sure know how to shock a guy. Sure, let’s talk about it after the boys leave. It might be a great idea, seeing as I hate being apart from you.”
We were in the airport and I said to Andy, “Help me find the parking ramp for Terminal 2.”
