Chapter 22

T.G.I.F.

I was awakened on Friday morning by someone moving around the trailer.  I looked at the clock and it wasn’t even six o’clock.  Randy was still asleep, so I assumed it was Witt who was moving about, because I hadn’t heard Bobby and Billy use the bathroom.

When I went into the kitchen, the coffee was already made, but I didn’t see anyone.  The sofa bed hadn’t been made as Witt had been doing when he was up for the day.  I went to the trailer door. Witt was sitting on the steps of the porch.  I sat down beside him, “Witt, is something bothering you?”

Witt looked at me and shook his head, “Nothing is bothering me, really.  I was just thinking about how lucky I was to have been able to get a job, here.  I was thinking that my brothers would like to be able to live in an atmosphere like this.  Their plight is going to be even worse, after tomorrow.”

I put my arm around Witt, “Why do you say that?”

“When Dad brings his new wife and her daughters, home, who knows what’s going to happen to the boys?”

“Do you want to go to the wedding?”

“There isn’t going to really be a wedding.  They’re getting married in the pastor’s office.  Besides, I wouldn’t want to go, anyway.  I really don’t like the woman, or her daughters.  I’m worried about my next two brothers.  They’re already dicking every female they can, and I’m willing to bet you that it won’t be long before one or both of them knock up at least one of the five daughters of the new wife.”

“Witt, have you tried to talk to your brothers?”

“Mr. Adler, they think I’m queer, because I’m still a virgin.”

I frowned, “Witt, are you saying queer meaning gay or as in being different.”

Witt started to laugh and fell against me, “Leave it to a principal to ask a question like that.  The guys don’t know that I’m gay, even though they may suspect such is the case.  You and Mr. Taylor are the only two people I’ve admitted it to.”

“Are you saying that Ritchie doesn’t even know?”

“Sir, I don’t even know if Ritchie is gay, for sure.  I just have a gut feeling he is.”

Our conversation was interrupted by Billy coming out of the trailer, “Bobby, go tell Daddy that Mr. Adler and Witt are sitting out here naked with their arms around each other.”

Witt stood up, “Billy, we are not naked.”

“Well, you’re almost naked, so that counts as being naked.  Get dressed so you can help us with the milking while Mr. Adler goes and takes care of our Dad.  Bobby and I’ll go get the cows ready.”

When I went into the bedroom, I kissed Randy, “Good morning, Mr. Sunshine.  Your sons are accusing me and Witt of playing games.  We were sitting on the porch steps, talking.  Witt is really a neat young man.”

Randy pulled me on top of him, “Is tonight the night that you’re going to show me what a stud you are?  We’ll have plenty of time, since the guys have a mandatory court appearance.  If I scream and cry, they won’t hear me.”

“We’ll discuss the screaming and crying when I get home tonight.  I need to get dressed for another boring day at work.”

When I arrived at the school, there was a strange car in the parking lot.  As I was getting out of my car, a young man in jeans got out of the car and approached me, “Are you Mr. Adler?”

“Yes, I’m Hank Adler.  But who are you?”

The man grinned, “I’m here to make sure that you don’t get into anymore trouble, today.  The handle is Detective Jason Easley.  I’m working undercover, to see if we can catch the people who hung you in effigy, yesterday.”

“What happened to the police people who were here, yesterday?”

“Believe me, Mr. Adler, your flanks are being protected from all sides, right now, because of what happened last night.  I’m guessing you will have some very irate visitors, today, so you might want to get your armor on now, while it’s quiet.  I’ll be around, but I’ll be keeping a low profile.  There will be a uniformed policeman here shortly, to escort visitors into the school.”

I went in the door with a cipher lock so I wouldn’t be seen.  I checked the building to make sure there wasn’t any more damage.  Everything seemed fine, but it pained me to look into the bathrooms.

I was sitting at my desk when Gloria arrived.  She looked into the office, “I understand there was some excitement here last night?”

“Gloria, I can not figure out why Mrs. Kipper and Mr. Waxman would be involved with Mrs. Squires, Mr. Bloom and Mrs. Sumter.  Is there something I don’t know.  Why would the Art teacher and the P. E. teacher dislike me?”

Gloria laughed, “Probably because you didn’t treat them like royalty, because they provided you planning time.  Besides, it’s common knowledge that Waxman and Sumter have been having an affair, since Daily dropped the witch in favor of the warlock, Hamilton.  Bloom and Kipper were friends even before Kipper transferred to this building.  Quite frankly, I’m glad that those five people will no longer be working here.  They had their own agenda and they were able to get your predecessor to buy into it.”

The first visitor arrived as we were talking.  Kim Wishman entered the office, “Good morning, Hank, this school had more activity going on last night than during a normal school day.  While we were cleaning the back playground, five teachers were trying to get into the school.  My husband called the police.  Let’s see, so far, you will have gotten rid of six teachers.  How many more are going to be gone before you’re finished?”

It was about eleven o’clock when Mrs. Hamilton came in.  “Hi, Hank.  That had to be the shortest divorce hearing in history.  Court had no more than been convened and my ex was deemed unfit to be a husband, or a father, by the judge.  I just got back from the farm and the boys were almost out of the car before I could stop.  How do you want me to pay Witt?”

“Lorena, do you have a few minutes?  I have some financial questions that I would like to talk to you about.”

“Of course, I told the office I wouldn’t be back until after lunch at the earliest.”

After I explained the dilemma about paying the guys, so that it was legal, she shrugged her shoulders, “Hank, it sounds to me as if you need to form a corporation.   You need to check with a lawyer on this.  In the meantime, here’s a check for fifty dollars, to pay Witt, for taking care of Devin and Derek, this week.”

It was just before lunch that I had my first unpleasant encounter when Mr. Waxman arrived, “Adler, I’ve come to claim my personal things.”

I looked at the man, “What personal things?  All the physical education equipment was either paid for with district funds, or funds from the PTO.  You’ll never be able to get another teaching job in this state, after the incident last night.  No school district will even look at you, once they see that you have a police record.”

“Lawrence, I can’t understand how you, a married man with three children, could let yourself become involved with someone like Heather Sumter.”

“A real man has needs, unlike you queers.  You gotta take advantage of every chance you get.  For your information, Adler, my wife has left me, because she found out that I was having an affair with Heather.  How the hell did you find out, anyway?”

“I had no clue about your misguided sexual activities until this morning.  It was nice knowing you, but I can’t say it was a pleasure.”

Gloria and I were just returning from getting lunch, when we saw two police cruisers with flashing lights around a car that was in front of the school.  Officer Overton approached us with two handcuffed young men, who looked to be teenagers.  Mr. Adler, these are the two culprits who placed the dummy in the tree.  They have another dummy in their car, and they were going to spray paint messages on the front lawn.  What would you like us to do with them?”

“Officer Overton, I have no idea who these people are, or why they are doing what they’re doing.  Do they have names?”

The older of the two guys was trying to squirm away, “You queer, you caused our dad to be put in jail.  He’s lost his job because of you.”

“Young man, I still don’t have the foggiest idea who you are talking about, because I have caused no one to be put into jail before what I’m about to do to you.   Who are you, and what is it that I did, to cause your dad to be incarcerated?”

Kent looked at me, “Hank, you don’t know who these two gentlemen, or their father, are?”

“Officer Overton, could you give me a clue?”

“These two young guys are Aaron and Eric Corn.  Their father was involved in the graffiti that was written in the bathrooms, and elsewhere, in the school.”

“I had nothing to do with arresting those people.  I don’t even know their father.  Why should I?”

The younger of the two shook his head, “You must be even stupider than Dad said.  He says that gay people don’t have any brains in their heads,  and that they let their cocks tell them what to do.  Our Dad was the Executive Assistant to the President of the First National Bank, here in town, until he got arrested.”

“Guys, I’m confused.  It appears that your father and his friends, Mr. Hamilton, Mr. Dailey and Mr. Baxter, didn’t have any brains in their heads. … Wait a minute, your father is the person that was shown at the school board where he was going into a gay orgy at Mr. Dailey’s apartment, with Mr. Baxter.”

Eric Corn yelled at me, “You’re fucking lying, you queer.  Our Dad would never do anything like that.”

“Eric, believe me, that’s what I saw on the tape.  Officer Overton, take these two, and book them and write a note on the booking charge, that I recommend they be sentenced to five hundred hours of community service time, here at Birchcrest school, to clean up the mess that their father helped to create.”

The older guy frowned, “Sir, please don’t recommend something like that, or I’ll never be able to get enough money to go to college, now that our father has lost his job.”

“You should have thought of that before you did what you did yesterday, and were going to do today.”

By the end of the afternoon, I had encounters of the worst kind with the other four terminated teachers and Greg Spiller, because he brought someone to take Mrs. Squires position who cared nothing about children.

At four o’clock, I announced, “Gloria, let’s bust out of this place.  I’ve had all I can take.  If the Central Office fires me, so be it.”

When I got to the farm, there wasn’t a person in sight.  ‘There should be at least eleven people here, but where are they?  The Brown’s sons should have already departed, but their car is still here.’

I went to the dinner bell that was hanging in the yard and started ringing it and people started to come out of the woodwork, so to speak.  Witt arrived with the tractor and the eight young guys on a wagon.  He announced, “We were checking the fence lines, to make sure the animals couldn’t escape.  What’s so important that you needed to ring the bell?”

“For starters, you need to go get your hair wet, while I set up shop.  Why were the guys riding on a wagon with no protection?”

Billy answered, “Dad, Witt made us sit in the middle of the wagon and even the fishing worms were going faster than we were.  You need to realize that Witt isn’t going to let anything bad happen to any of us, if he can help it.”

Randy and Ritchie came out of the house.  Ritchie asked, “Mr. Adler, what are you doing home in the middle of the afternoon?”

“Ritchie, it’s already four thirty.  Shouldn’t you and your brothers be going, or are you trying to get me fired?  Here, this should keep you in spending money, this weekend.  I’m still trying to figure out the best way of paying you and Witt.  I’ll settle the rest of the account, after I talk to some people this weekend.”

I went to the trailer and set up my barbers equipment while Witt got his hair wet.  As I was trimming Witt’s hair, he looked at me.

“Mr. Adler, why is everyone looking at us.  I feel like my dick is hanging out or something.”

I whispered, “It isn’t, yet, but it will be, when I trim your pubic hair.  They‘ll get an eyeful, then.”

Witt chuckled, “Mr. Adler, I didn’t think teachers talked like that.”

“Sit still, before I accidentally drop the razor where it might cause some damage.”

When I finished, Ritchie said, “Heck, Witt is even better looking than I thought.  Every skirt in town will be on his trail.  I don’t suppose you could do anything with this unruly mop of mine?”

“Ritchie, I could try, but it will have to be another time.  I need to change clothes, so I can do the milking, since Witt, Bobby and Billy have a very important date with the Queen of Hearts and the Mad Hatter.”

I went to change clothes and as I was going out the door, Bobby announced, “Dad, all the other animals have been taken care of.  We fixed you and Daddy a casserole, and we’ll put it in the oven before we leave.”

“Thanks, guys.  Witt, I put the car keys and some money on the counter in the kitchen.  Billy and Bobby, I also left twenty dollars for each of you, on the counter.”

Bobby asked, “Dad, why do we need to have money?”

“Guys, you have worked hard this week, and you deserve an allowance.  Now you have money, in case you see something you want to buy.”

Billy asked, “Do we gotta spend it?”

“It’s your money, so it’s up to you to do what you want.”

Billy frowned, “Then I’m leaving mine here.  Granddad and Grandmother will probably be spending too much on us, anyway.”

Ryan Peacock had picked up the Rollins boys and the Hamilton boys.  As Randy and I were walking to the barn, Randy took a deep breath, “Hank, I’m nervous about what’s going to happen, tonight.  I keep remembering how painful it was when that Pierson person used  my body.”

“Randy, we don’t need to do anything like that, tonight, if you don’t want to.”

“Hank, we have to try it, tonight. If we don’t do it tonight, I’ll keep procrastinating.  If we’re going to have a meaningful relationship, we need to be able to give ourselves freely to each other.  I never thought I would hear myself talking like this to another man.  Hank, I do love you, and so do the boys.”

I stopped and hugged Randy. “Randy, you and the two boys have become very, very important to me.  It’s been a long time since I’ve been this happy.”

Randy and I were almost halfway finished with the milking when the three guys came into the stable.  Witt asked, “Mr. Adler, am I dressed okay?  I have no idea what your parents have in store for us, tonight.  These are the best clothes I have.”

“Witt, you look great. Make sure you don’t go to the bathroom by yourself, tonight, while you’re doing whatever it is your going to be doing.”

Witt had a funny look on his face, “Don’t worry, Mr. Adler, we’ll be careful.”

To be continued...

Editor's Notes: It is very nice to see that Witt is feeling better about himself.  The other boys are also learning a few lessons about life and they way that people should act toward each other.

I just have a feeling that there will be good things happening very soon.

We might find out, next time, I hope.
