Chapter 46

I Hope He Isn’t My Grandfather

After the boys had gone back to the wagon, and Cole saw it start to pull away, he turned to Mr. Stark, “Take off all of your clothes and put them on a pile.  You have two options, either to walk back to the people who are still here naked or walk back to Summerhill.”

Mr. Stark was defiant, “You nigger, I’m not taking off my clothes.  You’ll probably try to defile my body.”

Cole was getting angry, “Look you lily pure white boy who goes around exposing himself to young boys; you will get naked and now, or we’ll take your clothes off for you.”

Mr. Stark started to walk away, but Cole grabbed him, “Doug, I’ll hold the prick, while you take his clothes off.  He must really be proud of his body, since he was exposing himself to twelve young boys.”

The man was trying to resist, but he was no match for Cole and me.  We had him naked except for his boxer shorts and his socks.  Mr. Stark was cursing us the entire time we were taking his clothes off.  Cole grinned, “Doug, take off his shorts but don’t touch them anymore than you have to since he probably has semen in them and hard to tell what else.”

We managed to get the shorts off, finally, and Cole finally let the man go.  Mr. Stark tried to grab the shorts, but Cole picked them up and the end of a branch that was laying on the ground and started to toward the few people who still remained.  Doug, get the rest of Mr. Stark’s things.  We need to teach him a lesson.  Mr. White Boy, we’ll deposit you’re clothes along the route back to Summerhill.  We’ll see you in about an hour.  Oh, by the way, we’ll be keeping your briefs as evidence.”

When we arrived back at the golf mobiles with his clothes, the people who were there asked what was happening.  Mrs. Stark asked, “Why do you have my husband’s clothes?  Where is he?”

Cole looked at me, “Doug, please tell the people why we have Mr. Stark’s clothes.”

I tried be as delicate as I could, since there were ladies present, but it was difficult, “We caught Mr. Stark, looking at the twelve boys as they were changing out of their swim suits.  In addition to enjoying the scenery, he was satisfying himself sexually as he watched the boys. The bad part is that the boys also saw what he was doing.”

I expected Mrs. Stark to try to refute what I had said, but all she said was, “I should have realized what the pervert was doing.  This is the last straw.”

We boarded the two golf mobiles after Cole had put the briefs in a plastic sack that was in the golf mobile.  Cole was driving the lead cart as we rode back to Summerhill.  He would stop periodically and throw a piece of clothing along the route so Mr. Stark would at least be presentable when he arrived at Summerhill.

Mrs. McBride was laughing, “Cole’s much nicer than I would have been in these circumstances.  I would have made him show up nude.”

Mrs. Miller chucked, “Mother, you’re absolutely mean.”

When we arrived back at Summerhill, the young people were making homemade ice cream.   Benji looked up and waved, “Where’s Mr. Stark?”

Cole answered, “He decided to walk back.”

Everyone was eating the cake and ice cream when Mr. Stark arrived.  He started to shout, “Where are the rest of my clothes you perverts?  I’m going to sue you for what you did.”

Mrs. Stark stood, “Charlie, shut up.  We know what you did.  As far as I’m concerned, you can walk back to Atlanta.  Don’t come home, because I’m not going to put up with your self righteousness, holier than thou attitude anymore.  Today was just the nail that closed your coffin.  If you try to sue anyone, there are at least fourteen people who observed what you did today.  I also have evidence that there have been other times that you have lost control of your libido.”

Benji came to me and said so everyone could here, “Daddy, I don’t want that man to be a Grandfather.  I can’t call him Granddad.  Granddads don’t act like he did today.”

Meg Hayworth spoke, “Benji, if I am your mother, Mr. Stark isn’t a blood relative of yours.  He’s my stepfather.”

Mrs. Stark interjected, “He was her stepfather, but not anymore.”

The conversation was interrupted by the arrival of another vehicle.  Benji looked at me, “Daddy, who is that?”

We went to see who had arrived.  It was Jack Kennedy and Logan Turner.  Jack climbed out of the vehicle, “Doug, I’ve been burning the midnight oils.  The college project is exciting.  I need to go out of town for a week because of a death in the family.  Do you have time to look at what I’ve come up with so far, so Logan and his people can start to work tomorrow?”

I laughed, “Guys, you’re in luck; the Harders just happen to be here.  Why don’t you bring your proposal and you can bore our guests and maybe they’ll leave?”

I took Jack and Logan to the area where the picnic was being held and introduced them.  Jack had brought his proposals on magnetic boards so it would be easy for him to display.

I figured that people might not be interested in the proceedings.  Even Benji was standing between my legs as Jack began,  “As we discussed with President Harder and Dr. Christiansen earlier, we propose to have the three blocks divided into three distinct areas.”

“The original block would remain the administrative area.  The center will be the academic area and the third block would be the residence area.  We proposed to prepare the two new blocks starting tomorrow so that construction can start immediately.”

Jack had three easels and put the three boards them and placed some forms to represent buildings.  After he explained his preliminary proposal, Benji looked up at me, “Daddy, can we take the money we get for the coins we found at the college and build a building where people could study like our Mother did and call it Summer Hall?”

Everyone watching heard the question, “Of course, Benji.  It could be the education building.  But it’s going to take a lot more money than what you get for your coins to build a nice building.”

Larry Morgan spoke up, “Benji, you and your brothers will be receiving a significant amount for the coins.  Your Dad is right, that you will need more funds than that to build a nice building.”

Mr. Summers surprised everyone, “Benji, your Grandmother Summers and I will provide additional funds to build Summer Hall.  Mr. Kennedy, would it be possible to design buildings that could be added on to as the need arises.  It seems to me that it would be better to start slow and expand as the enrollment increases.”

Jack nodded, “That’s a point well made, sir.  I wanted to suggest the same thing, but didn’t feel that was my prerogative.”

Benji went to the board and moved a symbol to the corner facing the administration building.  “Mr. Kennedy, could you put Summer Hall here so that everyone coming to the school for the first time will see it?”

Mrs. McBride stood and went to the board, “Young man, everyone knows that the academic center of any campus is its library or information center.  It should be placed in the center of the academic area.  She placed a building in the middle of the academic block.  Dr. Christiansen, I’ll endow the library once Mr. Kennedy has some cost figures.  I would like it to be called the McBride Library in honor of my husband.”

Everyone was stunned by what was happening, but the fun was just

beginning.

Dr. Miller went to the third board for the residence halls.  “The center of any campus is the Student Center.  He put a building in the middle of the third block.  My wife and I will endow the Student Center if you name it the Ben Miller Student Center”

Mr. Black went to the third board, “I almost agree with Dr. Miller.  I think the biggest money maker would be a field house for sports activities.  I will endow the building if it is called Black Field House.”

President Harder was looking at me and I shrugged shoulders because everything was out of my control.  I just hoped that I could remember everything that was happening.

Uncle Howie had been talking to my Mother.  He went to the board, “My sister, Mrs. Christiansen and I will fund a student residence area in this area.  We would like it to be called Willingham Village after our parents.  We would like to see small buildings where the students can be self contained but have a central area where they could congregate if the Miller Student Center were closed.”

I was getting ready to stand when Mr. Nixon and Mrs. Mitchell approached the boards.  Uncle Rob spoke for them as he placed a building on the opposite end of the block from where Summer Hall was to be located, My sister and I will fund a building for the study of the liberal arts in this area if it is called Nixon Hall.”

Again I was getting ready to stand when Mrs. Stark stood and went to the board and placed a symbol of a building on the corner adjacent to the Nixon Liberal Arts building.  I’ll fund this facility for the school of business administration, if you call it the Davis School of Business.”

Mr. Stark jumped up, “You can’t do that, you bitch.  We need that money to get the liberals out of office and get people like those who are here this afternoon off the streets and into mental institutions.”

Mrs. Stark went and smacked Mr. Stark on the face.  “Charlie, as soon as the courts open tomorrow, I’m filing for divorce.  Mr. Willingham, will you take care of the necessary paperwork?”

Uncle Howie nodded, “Sarah, I’m retired.  But in this case I’ll be happy to do it.  This man has proved beyond a shadow of doubt that he has finally flipped.”

Mrs. Stark wasn’t finished, “Charlie, you will need to find your own way home.  I’m not having you riding in the same vehicle as Toby and Tommy.”

I figured there would be no one else coming forward.  I was walking toward the area where Jack and Logan were standing when Leonora came forward.  “I’d like to fill in this other corner with the science building if you would be agreeable to calling the Sherman Science Center in honor of Trent and Trevor’s grandparents.”

Benji had been watching all the time, “Daddy, may I go and ride with the guys?”

I hugged him, “Of course.”

I shook Jack’s hand, “Mr. Kennedy, I want to thank you for coming today.  I guess you have your marching orders.”

Jack started to laugh, “My computer is going to be overheated from designing these buildings.”

All of a sudden a new red truck was coming towards the assembled group with a banner “Congratulations, Dad.  You made it.”  Benji was in the drivers’ seat sitting on Jeff’s lap.  The four boys hopped out and Benji approached Cole, “Dad, here’s your bonus for graduation with a perfect grade point average.”

Benji hugged Cole as did the other three boys.  Tears were falling from Cole’s eyes, “Thanks, guys, but my old truck is fine.”

Benji put his hands on his hips, “Dad, your old truck will be fine for you to go back and forth to football practice, but there is no way it would be safe for all us to ride in.”

Cole picked up the four boys and hugged them.

Jack Kennedy watched the proceeding, “I wish we had a videotape of what happened this afternoon.  I’m astounded by what happened.  If people could see what happened, people would be banging at the college doors trying to contribute.”

A voice spoke, “Mr. Kennedy, we’ve been taping the proceedings ever since the people started to return from the lake.  This is going to make a great human interest story for the television audience.  Dr. Christiansen, would you be available to talk on a television show at noon tomorrow so you can explain what happened here today?”

Mr. Stark yelled, “You’re not going to put me on are you?  I’ll sue you for defamation of character.”

Mr. Caster pointed his finger at Mr. Stark. “Sir, you can sue yourself for defamation of character.  Benji and the guys told me what you were doing.”

I looked at Rich Caster, “Sir, who gave you permission to tape what was happening?”

My Mother spoke up, “Doug, I gave Mr. Caster and his crew permission to tape what was happening.  They thought they were here to film Cole’s graduation party.  Little did we know what was going to happen.”

Benji came skipping to where I was, “Dads, Mr. Morgan would like to talk to you about the coins.”

Cole and I went to talk to Larry.  He grinned as we approached, “Doug and Cole, I need to know what you want me to do.  There have been bids of $5000.00 per set.  One person wanted to buy all the coins for $1,000,000.00 bucks.  I need you to tell me what you want me to do.”

I looked at Larry, “Larry, you’re the coin expert.  You know where the funds that are generated are going to be used, so you need to decide when the boys can get the maximum return for their find.”

Larry dropped another bombshell, “I really like that Clark person.  He relates so well with the boys.  What do you know about him?”

I swallowed, “Clark was my assistant at the college until I got booted upstairs to be in charge of the fund raising for the new facilities.  He’s now the Dean of Students and the Director of Admissions at Harwood Community College.”

Larry started to laugh, “From what he said, I thought he was just another flake.  I thought he was involved with someone while we were in college.”

Cole responded, “Larry, you need to sit down and talk to Clark.  It is not Doug’s or my prerogative to talk about Clark.”

When we went back outside the area where we had the picnic, the area was nearly cleaned.  The last of the picnic tables was being loaded into the trucks to take back to the party area.

Larry and his four boys were getting ready to leave and I noticed that Clark was talking to Larry as they were getting into the van.  The Hayworths were getting into their van and Meg was saying. “Dr. Miller, I’ll drive down in the morning so you can test me.  I need to be home when the boys get home from school.”

The Millers and Mrs. McBride were getting ready to leave and my Mother said, “Doctor Miller, I’ll bring the boys to be checked after we pick them up from school tomorrow.”

Benji reacted immediately, “Why is Doctor Miller going to be checking us?”

Cole decided to play the bad cop, “He's going to check to see how many shots you need.  Doctor Miller is afraid that you have contracted some bad diseases from swimming naked in the lake.”

As the Harder’s were leaving, Doris smirked, “I’ll have to find something else for you to do.”

After all the guests and visitors had departed, Cole and I put the boys to bed since they had school in the morning.  The parents had retired, so Cole and I decided to go to bed.

When we were in bed, Cole asked, “Doug, you don’t suppose Mr. Stark is going to cause us grief, do you?  I noticed that he left with the television crew.”

To be continued...

Editor's notes: My goodness,  that was quite a nice day, except for that Stark animal's performance.

We will have to wait for the next chapter, to see what happens next.
