Chapter 41

Bidding War

Cole and I were getting the boys ready for bed and Mark asked, “Dads, why won’t Mr. Morgan let his sons see his penis.  Is it so small that he doesn’t want them to see it?”

Cole answered before I could, “Guys, not everyone is as open about their bodies as your Dad and I are.  That’s why you need to be careful when you are talking to other people.”

I added, “Guys, I think Mr. Morgan probably was upset when he left because of the talk about penises.  I agree with Dad Cole; we shouldn‘t talk about things like that when other people are here.”

I checked the boys and the oldest three had almost no red marks, but I applied lotion to them just in case.  Mikey was still covered with red marks  though.  I announced, “You guys will not be going to school tomorrow.”

After we had the boys settled for the night, Cole and I were reading the packet of information about Cole’s contract that Uncle Howie had given him, while we were in our bed.  He read each page carefully before he handed it to me to read.  When I finished reading, he looked at me, “Doug should I sign it on Saturday?”

“Cole, you’re a grown man.  You need to do what it right for you.”

“Doug, this will give us the freedom to do what we want after we get our sons through college.  But in the interim, I’m going to be away a significant amount of the time.  Will you be able to cope, because the hard times with boys are still coming, when they get to be teenagers?”

I quipped, “I coped with you when you were a teenager, didn’t I?”

Cole pushed me on my back, “Doug, get serious.  I was only one person.  We have four sons and they are going to have different interests.  Will you be able to handle that by yourself and work full time?”

I hugged Cole, ”Things will work out, don't worry.”

Cole kissed me, “Doug, let’s just go to sleep. I have too many thoughts running through my head to even be able to spring any wood tonight.”

The next morning when I woke up, there had been some major growth in the forest next to me.  I decided that I needed take care of it before it got chopped down.  I maneuvered so I could practice my oral skills.  I must not have been performing too badly the tree began to respond.  Cole finally pushed me away, “Doug, stop.  I need to go to the bathroom.”

I watched as Cole started toward the bathroom and thought, ‘Please don’t let him get hurt.’

The sound of running water caused me to realize that I too needed to go to the bathroom.  After I had taken care of nature’s calling, Cole grabbed my penis and was massaging it as he pushed me toward the shower.

As soon as the shower door was closed and the water was running, Cole dropped to his knees, looked up at me and chuckled, “I’m going to demonstrate, one more time, the proper oral techniques for satisfying a man’s need to release his sexual tensions.”

Cole’s techniques were so good that it took no time at all for my sexual tensions to be exiting my body.  When Cole was sure he had done a thorough job, he finally released my now deflated penis.

I dropped to my knees and looked up at Cole, “Teacher, I need practice the proper techniques.  I started imitating what Cole had done to me.  I must have done a credible job because my mission was completed quickly.  When I stood, I asked, “Teacher, did I do a good job?”

Cole patted me on the butt, “Son, you did a very credible job.  We’ll have to practice a different skill next time.”

We were drying our bodies when there was a knock on the door.  I looked up and Benji was standing there.  “What's wrong Benji?”

“Dads, are you sure that we can’t go to school today?  I don’t have any of those red marks and I didn’t see any on Matt or Mark.  Mikey still has some, but not as many.  I already put lotion on him.”

I knelt and put my hands on Benji’s shoulders, “Son, I know that you would like to go to school, but both the school nurse and your pediatrician suggested that you not go back to school until tomorrow.  You will be there for your field day fun.”

Benji hugged me, “Okay, Daddy.”

I watched as Benji put his arms around Cole and hugged him and I thought, “What innocence and trust; what can be so wrong about letting the boys see our bodies?”

I remembered as we were eating breakfast that I hadn’t told anyone what had happened at the school yesterday.  I informed them that I was now the Vice President in charge of facilities.

Mikey looked at me, “Daddy, what does that mean?”

I sighed, “Clark says it means I’m going to be the head janitor.”

That caught Benji’s attention, “Dad, you didn’t go to college to be a janitor.”

I couldn’t help myself and started to laugh, “Guys, I’ll find out this morning what the job means.  And no, Benji, I’m not really going to be a janitor.”

As I was going to Doris’ office, I stopped at Karen’s desk, “Karen, please come with me and bring your steno machine, so you can take notes to help me remember everything that I need to do.”

When we arrived in Doris’ office, there was no one at the reception desk so I went and knocked on Doris’ door which was open.  Are we meeting here or in the conference room?”

Doris answered, “Why don’t we meet here, since my secretary is out sick?  That way I can take care of any business that comes up.”

I entered the office, “I brought Karen with me to take notes so that I wouldn’t forget anything that I need to do.”

Doris nodded, “Great!”

Karen turned out to be a godsend.  She was able to field most of the phone calls and the visitors, so that Doris and I only had minimal interruptions.

Doris and I went to walk around the block the school was purchasing and she was telling me what she envisioned for the area.  The kicker was when she said, “Doug, the ultimate decisions of what is going to happen is yours, because that was what Mr. Nixon stipulated when he announced the endowment.”

“Say what?  Why would he do that?  I hardly knew the man.”

Doris nodded, “Mr. Nixon developed very high respect for you.  He was impressed by everything that you did and how you handled adverse situations.  You don’t have any idea how elated he was when you and Cole got together.  He had been watching everything the two of you ever made since you came to work here.”

I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry, “Doris, you’re scaring me.”

I looked at my watch, “Doris, I need to get back to campus.  I need to give a final exam in fifteen minutes.  Doris, I really would like to be able to teach one class each term.  I enjoy the interaction with the students.”

“We’ll negotiate that point later.  The students have been complaining that you were the meanest, badest teacher on campus.  Actually, I knew that you would be reluctant to step away from teaching.  I’ll talk to you later.”

While the students were taking their final exam, I called Summerhill.  “Cole, why don’t you take Benji to be fitted for his outfit for Trent’s wedding?”

Cole’s response was funny, “Gladly, the four boys are driving everyone bonkers.  I think we need to enroll them in every activity possible over the summer so we won’t lose our sanity.  What time will you be home?  I’ll probably be in a straightjacket by then.”

I graded the finals and fed the grades into the computer.  Thank goodness for computers.  I looked at the clock as I was leaving and it was five o’clock.  I locked the office since no one else was there.

While I was driving home, I was reviewing the day.  Nothing was making sense.  But that was just the tip of the iceberg, because the world must have gone totally off kilter.

When I pulled into the drive, I saw ten boys playing.  I looked and I saw Cole talking to Larry Morgan.  I thought to myself, ‘I guess I’m going to find a new numismatist.’

As I was approaching the group, Benji came running up to me, “Dad, go change clothes.  We’re having a picnic dinner at the lake and then we’re going skinny dipping.”

I walked up to where Cole and Larry Morgan were standing.  Before I could say anything, Larry started, “Doug, I apologize for what I said as we were leaving last evening.  I was totally out of line as my oldest son reminded me last evening when we got home.  He said that I was not only rude, but crude.  His comment was cemented this morning when I was getting the boys ready to go to school when I was helping Tommy, my youngest son, get ready for school.  He asked, ’Dad, why is it okay for you to see us, but not for us to see you?’”

“When I talked to my Dad this morning and explained what had happened, he ripped me a new hole where it hurts most.  Doug, go get changed because my sons really want to go skinny dipping.”

I stopped in the kitchen after I had changed my clothes, “Hi, Patty and Karen, are you going with us?”

Patty started on me, “Nope, we were informed that it was a men’s only picnic.  Besides, we’re going to celebrate Karen’s promotion.  Do you suppose that the next time you are going to have a nude dude picnic, you could give me a little advance warning,”

I threw up my hands, “What promotion?”

Karen was so calm, “I thought you knew.  I’m going to be President Harder’s new secretary.  Don’t worry, President Harder is having your office set up next to hers, so I can make sure that you don’t get into too much trouble.”

“What happened to her secretary?”

Karen answered my question, “Her secretary almost had a miscarriage and has been restricted to bed rest for the duration of her pregnancy.   She indicated that she would not be returning to work.”

I took the two baskets of food that Patty had prepared and walked to where everyone was congregated and ordered,  “To the dune buggies.”

It was a tight squeeze but the eleven of us were strapped in the two dune buggies.  When we arrived at the lake, our four boys were naked before you could cont to ten.  It didn’t take much longer before the Morgan boys were in the same condition.  The eight boys ran to the pier and Benji was the first to dive into the lake.  Larry commented, “He looks like a flying bird.”

Our other three boys followed and they were just as impressive. Yes even Mikey.  Larry’s four boys dove in and they obviously were not intimidated by the water.  Cole commented, “Your boys aren’t exactly chickens.  They just need a little practice.”

Cole and I were putting the food on the picnic table while Larry was watching the boys.  For not having any warning, Patty certainly had done a very credible job.  Not only did we have fried chicken, which was still warm, we had had potato salad and seven layer salad and brownies with lemonade.

Cole got the boys attention and they came running.  They didn’t even make any attempt to dry off or put on clothes.  They sat at the picnic table until we three adults were seated.  Benji looked at me, “Daddy, why don’t you bless this food since you’re the oldest.”

I said a brief prayer of thanks and the garbage machines went to work.  I was almost afraid that there wouldn’t be enough food for us three adults, but there was.

We were just about finished eating when we saw two people on horseback approaching.  Benji recognized who they were and ran to greet them even though he was naked.  “Hi, Uncle Howie and Uncle Rob.”

They climbed off their horses and Uncle Howie queried, “We heard there was a nude swim party going on here.  Can we join?”

Benji nodded, “Of course, maybe the three Dads will get with it and join us too.”

Cole and I shed our clothes and were naked, and we dove into the lake with Uncle Howie and Mr. Nixon.  Tim, the oldest Morgan boy looked at his Dad, “Daddy, please join us.  No one is doing anything bad.  Besides, we’ve seen Mr. Christiansen, Mr. Weaver, Mr. Willingham and Mr. Nixon and nothing bad is happening.”

We watched as Larry reluctantly got up, shucked his clothes, walked toward the pier and dove into the lake.  I hadn’t anticipated what would happen. His four sons swam to him and hugged him.  I heard Tim say, “See Dad, it’s not so bad.  We need to find you a friend like Mr. Christiansen has.  Dad, we know that you miss our Mother and we do, also.  Missing her isn’t going to bring her back.  Dad, we love you, but we know that you are going to need help taking care of us.  We’re not like the Christiansen boys who have two Dads and a nanny.”

Uncle Howie looked at Cole and me, “I hope that the two of you haven’t been coaching the Morgan boys.”

“Uncle Howie, I haven’t really had a chance to talk to the Morgan boys since I got home.  Our sons may have said something to them, but we have no idea what.”

When we arrived back at Summerhill, the Morgans were getting ready to depart for Atlanta after the boys hugged us.  Tim asked, “Dr. C. can we come visit again?”

Matt spoke up, “Why don’t you come for Dad Cole’s graduation party?  You'd better bring swim suits, though, because our grandparents are going to be here for a party.”

Benji put his hand over Matt’s mouth, but Matt pulled it away, “Okay, I spoiled the surprise party.  We’re having a picnic to celebrate Dad Cole’s graduation on Sunday afternoon.”

As the Morgans were climbing into their van, Larry hugged us.  He stopped, “Guys, check your email.  There is a bidding war going on for the coins your sons found.  He handed us a piece a paper with some information.”

He looked at Cole and me and said, “I don’t know whether to hate or love you.  You have managed to turn my life upside down in two days.”

As the Morgans pulled away, I had no idea what to think.  I just wanted to take care of the boys and my precious Cole.

To be continued...

Editor's Notes:  Isn't it wonderful how kids can see all the silliness that adults miss.  They go right to the root of things and can see with unblinkered eyes.

We adults have had years and years to be squeezed into the pigeon holes that we find ourselves in.  Kids see right past those and ask why in the world are we being so silly?

I wonder how much that gold is worth.

Maybe we will find out next time.
