Chapter 24
Am I Normal?

When I arrived at the house, Bill was reclining in the rocking chair reading the newspaper.  I sat down on the arm of the chair.  I leaned down and whispered, "It's so nice to have a man around the house.  I don't suppose you would even consider breaking your rule of never on Sunday?"

He put his hand on my pelvic area, "I would consider it, my dear Les, but this is neither the time nor the place, since our other three sons are due home soon.  Why don't you go change and get comfortable and then we'll discuss the pros and cons of what you are suggesting we do.  While you are at it, you might check on Darrin to see if he's okay.  But first, why don't you give me a kiss?"

I did what he suggested and it became a duel of two tongues.  I put my hand on his pelvic area and determined that the duel was having the same effect on Bill as it was on me because the front of his jeans were starting to be a little tight.  I pulled away and whispered, "I think I'd better leave or we could be in trouble.  Love you, Father Bill."

The door to David and Darrin's room was open and Darrin was sitting at the desk.  I knocked to let him know that I was there.  He turned around, "Hi Dad, I'm just doing some schoolwork so I can get caught up.  I don't want to get any further behind.  I tried to rest, but it wasn't working, so I figured I would do something constructive.  Did you need me for something?"

I hugged Darrin, "Son, I just wanted to tell you that I love you, and I am so glad that you are okay."

"Daddy, I love you and Daddy Bill, too."

He stood up and hugged me.  I picked him up and held him even though he was almost too big for me to pick up.  He put his arms around my neck and neither of us said a word.  It just felt so right.

I put Darrin down, "I'm going to go change clothes before your brothers get home."

Darrin held me, "Dad, please let the other three guys know that you love them too.  They're probably feeling a little left out because everyone has been so worried about me.  I don't want them to hate me."

"Darrin, you worry too much, but I will talk to Daddy Bill, and we will make sure that the boys know that we love you all equally.  You're right though, in that they have been very patient with everything that has been happening and haven't complained.  I think David's prayer request today should prove to you how much we all love and respect each other."

I had just gotten downstairs when the front door opened, David was yelling, "I had a great time.  Thanks for asking me.  See you tomorrow."

David came in and sat down on the sofa, "Dads, where's Darrin?  Is he okay?"

I went and sat down next to David, "David, Darrin is fine.  He is just trying to catch up on the schoolwork he missed.  I take it you had a good time?"

"Dads, John's family is so neat.  They treated me as if I was one of their children.  Dads, I have a question, though."

I looked at Bill and he shrugged his shoulders.  I wasn't sure what to expect, "What's your question, son?"

I could tell that David was a little nervous about asking, but he took a deep breath, "Dad, is there something wrong with me?  When John and I went to the bathroom, we were standing next to each other at the urinals.  He looked at my penis, and said, 'Your pecker is as big as my fourteen year old brother's.' Dads, can you make me a doctor's appointment so he can check to make sure I'm okay?"

Bill sat down on the other side of David, "David, I'm sure you're just fine.  I think you probably inherited most of your genes from your father.  But if it will make you feel any better, I will make an appointment for you to see a doctor.  It appears to me that you might be a little advanced in your sexual development for your age.  I know a doctor I can call tomorrow.  He might be able to squeeze you in."

David looked at us, "I just want to make sure that there is nothing wrong with me.  After what we have just been through with Darrin, I just want everything to be okay for all of us."

The conversation was interrupted by the arrival of Denny and Danny.
"Hi Dads, we had a great time.  We got Hank a bike.  The Madsens are going to get Pete a car as soon as he gets his driver's license.  Where's Darrin?"

I hugged the two boys, "I'm glad you had a good time.  Darrin is in his room doing his schoolwork.  Why don't the three of you get changed and maybe we can go exercise or something.  Father Bill is sitting here growing fatter and fatter from lack of exercise."

While the three boys were changing, I told Bill about my conversation with Darrin.  He looked at me, "Les, Darrin is wise beyond his years.  I guess that's what happens when you've seen an angel."

We were interrupted by four preadolescent young men coming down the stairs.  Danny asked, "Dads, can we ride our bikes to the park and go around the lake?"

Darrin got a funny look on his face, "You guys go ride and I'll stay here and wait for Grandmother Archer.  I don't feel like going to the park.  Besides, I don't know where my bike is."

Bill looked at the guys, "You take your Dad with you.  I'll stay here and keep Darrin company."

Darrin was very firm, "Daddy Bill, it's going to take both of you to make sure nothing bad happens to my brothers.  I'll be fine here by myself.  I'm still a little tired from everything that has happened.  I really will be fine."
Danny spoke up, "Come on, Dads, we'll get our bikes and you can go to the park with us."

It was as if a cloud passed over Darrin's face.  I could feel him watching us as we passed out of his sight.  I whispered to Bill, "Bill, we have a problem.  Darrin may never ride a bike again after what happened and besides, we don't know where his bike is.  I'm guessing he is paranoid about the boys riding their bikes after what happened to him."

Little did we know, but he sat on the front steps of the house until he saw us returning.  He disappeared when he saw us, so we wouldn't realize that he had been worrying about us.

When we got to the house, he was nowhere to be seen.  Bill and I went to his bedroom and he looked as if he was sleeping on his bed.

Bill realized that he was faking, "Darrin, I think we need to talk.  Why are you so upset?"

Darrin sat up and he had obviously been crying, "Dads, I keep remembering what happened to me, and I'm so afraid that something bad is going to happen to someone else."

We sat down beside Darrin.  Bill held Darrin in his arms, "Son, what happened to you was caused by someone who had lost control of their senses.  We need to pray that maybe she can get the proper help to cure her addictions and her hatred."

Darrin looked at Bill, "Dad, that doesn't mean that I have to love her does it?  I can forgive her for what she did, but I don't think I can ever love her."

"Darrin, I'm not even sure I can forgive the woman for what she did to you.  But I will pray for her.  Now let's go check on your brothers.  We need to go find something for dinner since my Mother and Doctor Jacobs are off playing games."

When we got downstairs, David had the twins making toast for sandwiches and had some soup on the stove.  I looked at the guys, "Why are you fixing food?  We're here and we can take care of it."

Denny looked at us, "Dads, everyone is always taking care of us and we realized we made a big mistake when we rode our bicycles today and Darrin couldn't go with us.  Darrin, we're so sorry.  We just weren't thinking."

Darrin started to sob, "Guys, I wasn't upset because I couldn't go with you.  I was just afraid that something bad might happen to one of you.  I want you to do all the fun things that you can, until I can join you again, after Dr. Anderson says I can go with you.  Maybe Santa will bring me a new bicycle for Christmas.  Now, let's fix dinner so we don't starve."  We had just finished eating and the boys had started the dishes when the doorbell rang.  I went to answer.  Grandma Hattie and her son, Mr. Davidson, were standing there with a new bicycle.  Grandma Hattie winked, "Les, we would like to speak to young Mr. Darrin please."

"Darrin, there's someone here to see you.  I think you should come to talk to them now.  It's rather important."

That brought the four boys from the kitchen.  When Darrin saw who was there, he looked puzzled, "Grandma Hattie, I thought you were going to spend the day with your family.  Why didn't you tell us that you were going to be home, so we could have brought you some dinner?"

Grandma Hattie nodded, "I did spend the day with my family.  I had a nice time, and they sent me home with more leftovers than I'll ever eat.  I have something for you, and you need to check it out to make sure it works."

Darrin stepped outside and Mr. Davidson was standing there with a brand new bicycle.  Darrin backed into Bill and me.  Grandma Hattie knew just what to do, "Darrin, you need to test this new bike before I give it to a very special person.  Here put this helmet on and go make sure it works."

Darrin put the helmet on and very hesitantly crawled on the bike.  I was almost afraid that he was going to fall off.  He rode down the walkway to the street and went to the end of the block.  He turned around and started back toward us and there was the repeated sound of a car horn.  Darrin froze and climbed off his bicycle.

Dr. Anderson jumped out of his vehicle, "Who told you, you could ride a bicycle?  Why doesn't anyone ever listen to me?"

He went to back of the van that he was driving and opened it and took out an identical bicycle and sat it beside Darrin.  "Kent, get out here and make sure that the kid doesn't overdo it."

That was all it took to get the three other boys to get their bicycles and helmets and they were off.  I looked at Grandma Hattie, "Thank you, I wasn't sure that we could ever get Darrin to be a young boy again."

She smiled at me, "Les, I learned a long time ago that if we don't make people realize that what happened in the past isn't necessarily going to happen again, they may never want to do anything.  That's why it was imperative to get Darrin back on the bicycle and back being an active young man as soon as possible.  He may never be a normal young man, but he is intelligent and caring enough to never let on to others what he is thinking and feeling.  You and Bill will need to be willing to listen to him when he comes to you and wants to talk or has questions.  Your boys are all special, just love them unconditionally."

I didn't know what to say, but Bill nodded, "Grandma Hattie, I haven't had the opportunity to be around Les' four sons for very long, but they are all unique and special.  We will always listen when they wish to talk and even sometimes when then don't really want to talk.  I know from personal experience that sometimes things are not always what they seem to be.  Thank goodness, my parents were always there to support me.  We plan to be the same for the four boys and their friends."

Mr. Davidson and Grandma Hattie left, and Bill and I started to walk toward the park.  The four boys were on their way home.  Denny let us know, "We made sure that Kent got home okay."

When we got home, the boys disappeared to take showers or baths.  Bill found some apple turnovers and fixed them so the guys could have a snack.

After the guys had their snack, they came to Bill and me and hugged us.  Danny asked, "Why isn't Grandmother Archer home yet?"

Talk about triggering an alarm that did it.

Bill tried to appear to be calm, "Guys, I sure hope that she and Dr. Jacobs are fine, or we would have heard differently.  You need to go to bed so you will be ready for school tomorrow."

After the guys hugged us again and had gone to their rooms, Bill expressed his concern, "Les, this just isn't like mother to not call and tell us that she might be late.  You don't suppose something has happened, do you?"

"Bill, it's odd that we haven't had a single phone call all day.  You don't suppose that something is wrong with the phone line do you?"

We went to check the phone in the kitchen and the message light was blinking.  The first message was from Mrs. Archer, "Hey guys, I guess you must still be at lunch or somewhere.  Jake and I ran into some friends of his, and they have asked to join them for dinner.  We'll see you after dinner."

The second message started, "This is Mum again, we're going go play bridge with the couple, so don't wait up for me.  I'm sure that Bill must be tired.  Give the boys a hug for me."

I sighed, "I guess that means that you're too tired to play hide and seek."

Bill chuckled, "I'll have to play doctor first and make sure that what I told David was correct.  There is only one way for me to confirm that he did indeed inherit the genes that caused his penis to be large enough that one of his friends would comment about it."

"What might that be, Doctor Archer?"

"I can only confirm my theory by doing an in depth analysis of the weapon you want to play hide and seek with.  We better go take care of that problem right now."

We secured the house except for locking the front door and leaving the porch light on.  We stopped and checked on Danny and Denny and they appeared to be sleeping.  Even so, I felt compelled to give them each a kiss.  I kissed Denny first and whispered, "Goodnight son, we love you."

Denny grabbed me neck, "Dads, I love you, too."

That caused Bill to hug Denny and give him a kiss.

It was a repeat performance with Danny, except that he asked "Is Grandma Archer home yet?"

Bill hugged Danny, "She called to say that she and Dr. Jacobs were going to play bridge with some friends this evening and that we should go ahead and go to bed."

"Good, now we can stop worrying about her and go to sleep.  I love you, Dads."

When we got to Darrin and David's room the scene was a little different.  The door was open and Darrin was sitting on David's bed with him, "David, why was John looking at your penis anyway?"

David shook his head, "I don't know.  After he said what he did, I looked at his and it was definitely smaller than mine.  In fact it was about the same size as yours."

Darrin got a funny look on his face, "What does that mean?  Are we some kind of freaks or something?"

Bill felt compelled to say something so he knocked to let the guys know we were there.  "Guys, we overheard your conversation.  Darrin, in answer to your question, you boys are definitely not freaks.  You are handsomely endowed in the penis department as well as with the rest of your beautiful bodies.  I'm sure that is what Doctor Gordon will tell David when he has his appointment tomorrow.  I suggest that the two of you get to sleep."

David looked at Bill, "Daddy Bill, we're waiting to make sure that Grandma got home.  She usually let's us know when she is going to be out late."

"Guys, she called while we were gone this afternoon and evening to tell us that she and Dr. Jacobs were going to be spending the evening with friends.  None of us had checked the messages, so we didn't know until you had come upstairs.  Now give us a hug and a kiss and get into bed."

As we were leaving David and Darrin's room, I thought to myself, 'Our boys are growing up.  They certainly are handsome young men.'

As we were going to our room, I leaned over to Bill, "Are we going to finally go play doctor and hide and seek?"

Bill goosed me on the butt, "I guess we'll have to see what develops won't we?"

To be continued...

Editor's Notes: I think things are going to develop very nicely.  I hope that the wicked witch doesn't get out anytime soon.  She seems to have it in for the guys and there is no telling what kind of damage she might do if she were to be out and about.

Of course as always, I am ready for another chapter!!!!!!!
