Chapter 11
Friday Continues
Everyone started to leave
as Jeff put his things in a bag and stored them. He went to his office. Mitzi
said, “You have two people waiting to talk to you.”
Jeff went into his office and the first person came in. After the young man and
Jeff talked, Jeff called someone and said, “I think you need to talk to this
person, and I’m sure that your problem will be solved.”
The young man left and a young woman came in. Jeff rose and introduced himself.
The young lady sat down and described her problem to him. Jeff thought for a
couple of minutes and said, “I’ll tell you what. I don’t know who to direct you
to. Let me do some checking over the next couple of days. Can you check back
with me say next Wednesday afternoon, and I’ll try to get some answers for you.”
“Thank you Jeff. Thank you for listening, no one else has.” She said as she
left. Jeff was about to get up and leave when Dr. Armstrong came in and said,
“I’m angry.”
“Why are you angry Dr. A.?” Jeff asked.
“I tried to enroll in your Music Appreciation class, and they said it was
closed. I had such a good time today that I really want to be able to take
advantage of the rest of the course. I can’t imagine how you could possibly top
today, but I’m sure you will.” Dr. A. said.
“Dr. A., let me take care of that problem, and I'll see you tomorrow.” Jeff
said.
Dr. Armstrong left and Jeff went to Mitzi and asked, “Do you have anything else
for me today?
“Jeff it is already 3:45. You’re off the clock. Tricia and I are really looking
forward to tomorrow night.”
Jeff left and drove to the Baxter house. He went in and said, “It’s Jeff.
Spencer yelled, “Take off your shoes, or you can’t come in!”
Jeff took off his shoes and walked into the living room. Gigi was sitting there
laughing. “I’ve never seen such a whirling wind like you brought me this
morning. He and Chip have cleaned every inch of the downstairs. Let’s go into
the kitchen and see it.”
They went into the kitchen and the linoleum just sparkled as did the rest of the
kitchen. Gigi said, “I don’t think this kitchen has been this clean since we
moved in.”
Jeff looked around and said, “Beau, this kitchen looks spotless.”
Beau looked at him and said, “On the exterior maybe, but the interiors of the
stove and the refrigerator need a good cleaning.”
Jeff interrupted and said, “Guys, we have to go. Beau has an appointment.”
Jeff dropped Bobby and Toby off and drove to my office. Jeff walked in with the
three guys. Jane was sitting at the reception desk. “Hi Aunt Jane, are Dad and
Lash available?
“Your Dad is with a patient, but Lash is free.” she said, as she called him.
Lash came out and said, “Hi guys, Jeff is this the young man that is to get an
exam?”
“Yep, this is Beau, and I want everything checked.” Jeff said. “Tell Dad to
bring this stud home with him. Teddy, Spencer and I have some errands to run.”
Jeff turned to Jane and asked, “Where’s a good place to get some cheap china and
flat ware?”
“Try the Thrift Shop at the church, and there is also another thrift shop just
to the west.” Jane answered.
The guys drove to the church thrift shop and Mrs. Tice was working. Mrs. Tice,
what are you doing here?” Jeff asked.
“This is about the only time I have to volunteer at the shop.” she answered.
“Now, how can I help you?”
“We’re looking for a bunch of China and silverware that doesn’t cost too much.”
Jeff answered.
Mrs. Tice led Jeff to a place with a lot of miscellaneous dinnerware and flat
ware. Jeff looked at the prices and said, “Okay guys, start taking these things
to the checkout area.” Jeff said, as he started just randomly picking up dishes.
“Wait, let me get a cart.” Mrs. Tice said. She went and brought back a sturdy
serving cart and Jeff started to put plates and dishes of different styles and
patterns on the cart.
Jeff turned to Spencer and Teddy and said, “Find 36 knives, forks, and soup
spoons. You better get 50 teaspoons and 36 salad forks.
The guys went to work and Jeff had filled his cart with dishes and took it to
Mrs. Tice and asked, “You wouldn’t happen to have another cart would you?”
“Yes, there are two more right over there.” she answered as she pointed them
out.
Jeff got the carts and asked, “Where are the linens located?” Mrs. Tice pointed
to the linen area.
The guys joined him and asked, “Now what?”
“Find 48 cloth napkins of any pattern, while I find some table cloths," and he
looked around. Jeff found the table cloths he wanted and picked up some other
items. They took everything to the check out counter. Jeff started wrapping the
dishes as Mrs. Tice rang them up. The other lady who was working came to help
and the two young guys started to help wrap.
Jeff asked, “Have you rung the three serving carts up?”
“Yes.” Mrs. Tice answered. Jeff took the carts to the car and came back and the
three guys carried the packages to the car. When they were collecting the last
of the items, Jeff asked, “Now, how much do we owe you lovely ladies?”
Mrs. Tice said, “The total is $142.00.”
Jeff wrote the check for $150.00 and said, “Keep the change and thanks. We’ll
see you all later.”
After Jeff and the guys left, the other woman turned to Mrs. Tice and asked,
“Who was that young man?”
“You mean you didn’t recognize him? He is the young man who has been providing
the special music at church. He has played the organ the last two Sundays.” Mrs.
Tice said.
“I thought he was an air head.” the other lady said.
“Bea, Jeff is anything but and air head,” Mrs. Tice laughed.
Jeff and the boys arrived back at the house and Jeff said, “Come on, we have a
lot to do in a short time. We’ll get the things out of the car later.”
They went into the house and Jeff said, “Okay guys, set the table for 18.” He
started cooking the hamburger and was chopping the lettuce and tomatoes.
The guys came and said, “We’re done; what do you want us to now?”
Jeff put them to work and it was like the heavens opened up and everyone started
to arrive. Jeff said, “Spencer, you and Drew go get Chip and his Daddy. Take the
BMW.”
When Drew and Spencer arrived with Reg and Chip, “Everyone sit down except my
servers.” Jeff announced.
Everyone sat down except Spencer, Teddy and Kenny. The young guys brought in
bowls of salsa, sour cream, guacamole sauce. They then came back with pitchers
of milk, water, iced tea and lemonade. Teddy brought in two bowls of refried
beans, two bowls of Mexican rice. Jeff and Kenny came in carrying two large
platters of tacos. Everyone took what they wanted and started to eat. Jeff left
and got a small seat and put it on Chip’s chair.
Chip looked at Jeff and said, “Thank you Uncle Jeff. Could I have another of
those meat sandwich things?”
Jeff said, “You bet you can, Cub.” He left and came back with another huge
platter of tacos. They disappeared and Jeff asked, “Kenny do you have a
vehicle?”
“I have Dad’s old truck.” Kenny said.
“Good. All men between the ages of 16 and 25 are needed to transport some tables
and chairs from the church, before you all go to Gigi’s house. The rest of you
guys, please help Spencer with the dishes.
Jeff left with the older guys, and went to the church and got six tables and 60
chairs. They came back and unloaded everything in the garage. The guys took off
for the Baxter house. Jeff came in and told the guys to get their coats. They
left and Jeff took them to the Baxter’s house. “Okay, moving crew; let’s go into
the garage and decide what’s going into the study.”
Tyler looked at him and said, “Jeff, it would be much easier if you told us what
you think we should use, and then we could place everything where we want.”
Jeff shrugged and started to put blue dots on the furniture he thought they
should use. “I think that should keep you guys busy. I am going to take Chip and
Beau with me to run some errands.”
They left and went to the hair salon and Jeff asked if Gary and Renee were
available. Gary and Renee came out and said, “Hi Jeff, what can we do for you?”
“These good looking dudes need a hair styling. Do you have time to do it?” Jeff
asked. Gary took Beau, and Renee took Chip. Jeff sat down and was making several
lists. He was working when all of a sudden a young four year old was climbing
into his lap asking, “Uncle Jeff, how do I look?”
“Holy Moly, young man, I don’t think I know you.” Jeff said.
Chip grabbed Jeff’s face and held it and said, “Uncle Jeff, it’s me Chip.”
“But you are so absolutely handsome.” Jeff said, as Gary came out with a timid
Beau. As they approached, Jeff asked, “Gary, what did you do with Beau and who
is that handsome young man with you?”
Beau sparked and grabbed Jeff’s face and said, “Jeff, it’s me.”
Jeff stood and said, “I guess I’ll just have to go look for Chip and Beau.”
Both boys grabbed him and said, “Please don’t leave us.”
Jeff reached for his wallet and gave the guys each a $20.00 bill and said, “Give
this to Renee and Gary while I go pay the bill.
The next stop was the shoe store. Mr. Tomlinson came to them and said, “Good
evening Mr. Wilson. How can I help you?”
“First, my name is Jeff, and my Dad isn’t here. Beau here, needs a pair of fancy
sport shoes and a nice pair of loafers.” Jeff answered.
Mr. Tomlinson measured Beau's foot. He left and returned with several pairs of
sport shoes and some loafers in different colors. Beau looked at the shoes and
asked, “May I try these two pair?”
Beau tried them on and said, “Jeff, I like both these pairs of shoes.”
“Good.” said Jeff. “Now, how about we get Cub here a pair of sport shoes with
Velcro straps and a pair of loafers?”
Mr. Tomlinson measured Chip’s foot and brought back several pairs for Chip to
choose from. Chip tried the shoes on and said, “I like this pair and that pair.
They don’t hurt my feet.”
“We’ll take these four pair, but why don’t you guys throw your old shoes away
and wear your new sports shoes home?” Jeff asked, as he paid the bill.
The guys joined him wearing their new shoes. They left for the boys' department
at the Target store. He looked at clothes for Beau first. He found a green
sweater that matched Beau's eyes. He grabbed a yellow dress shirt and another
pair of khaki slacks and a nice belt.
Jeff turned to Chip and said, “Now, Cub, let’s get you taken care of.” Jeff
picked out a brown sweater, which would complement Chip's dark brown eyes.
Chip questioned Jeff, “Why am I getting a brown sweater when Beau got a green
one?”
Jeff held Chip’s face and said, “You will look better in brown, because it will
make your brown eyes sparkle, and Beau has green eyes.
Chip accepted that. Jeff led them to the dress pants and asked, “Chip, you are
four but when will you be five?”
“My birthday is next week, on February 2nd and then I’ll be five.” Chip
answered.
Jeff’s mind triggered and said, “Wow, you are almost a man.” Jeff grabbed two
pair of khaki slacks, and two dress shirts, one of which was yellow. He also
grabbed three pair of brown socks and a belt. Chip chose a package of superhero
briefs. They collected their things and went to the checkout area.
Jeff looked around and saw Joey and they pulled into his lane. Jeff said, “Good
evening Joey. We have purchases for each of these two handsome dudes. Could you
package them separately, but I will pay for it all.”
Joey rang it up and each guy was carrying their own things. Jeff drove to the
Dairy Queen and they each had a hot fudge sundae before going to the Baxter
house.
To be continued...
Editor's Notes:
What a nice day. Beau is so adorable, isn't he? That is amazing, considering all the stuff that has happened to him. Jeff seems to bring out the best in people, doesn't he?
