Chapter 6
Chastity Belts and Bundling Boards
Todd was sitting there feeding Kaden, “Mike, what are you laughing at? Are you laughing at my penis; is it showing or something?”
I shook my head no, “No, it isn’t exactly visible, but yes I am laughing about you sitting here next me, displaying a nice package in just your briefs. The reason I was laughing though was that I was just at the Shoemaker’s house, and we were greeted by Mr. Shoemaker who was dressed just as you are. It didn’t seem to faze him that he was standing there talking to me in his briefs. I will have to tell you this though, that from what I observed, you could give him a run for his money.”
Todd started to laugh, “Mike, for a straight boy, you sure do talk a lot about the male anatomy. What was so important that you had to go take care of something tonight?”
The three boys were asleep in their carriers. I kicked off my shoes and leaned back against the sofa and told Todd what had happened.
When I finished, he smacked me on my arm, “Mike, you could have been killed, and then what would have happened to your sons?”
I looked at the grandfather clock and it was one o’clock. “I guess we'd better go to bed. It’s going to be a very short night.”
We carried the boys to their room and put them in bed. Todd surprised me, “Mike, please don’t do any more stupid things that could endanger your life. You have a lot of people who depend on you.”
He hugged me and kissed on the lips, of course, “I’ll take care of the boys tonight. I can always catnap when they’re sleeping tomorrow.”
I think I surprised him when I hugged him back and kissed him, “Yes, boss nursie.”
When I got to my room, I realized that I was absolutely exhausted. I just dropped my clothes on the floor and crawled into bed. I didn’t even brush my teeth. The next thing I remember was that I was being awakened by something stinging my stomach. I felt it again and I realized that someone was pulling up the waistband of my briefs and releasing it.”
I started to sit up; the triplets were sitting there in their carriers. “See, I told you, boys, you’re daddy was just pretending to be dead. You stay here and make sure he gets dressed, so he can go to work and make some money so he can afford to feed us. I’ll go fix his breakfast.”
I thought to myself, ‘What’s it going to be like when the boys can crawl and be all over me? I’ll need to wear an athletic supporter with a plastic cup to protect my genitals.’
I was just getting ready to go downstairs and was picking up the first two boys’ carriers when Todd walked in, “Breakfast is ready. I’ll take Kaden.”
The boys were asleep in their carriers when Mother arrived, “I’m sorry I’m late. What’s for breakfast?”
Todd got up and pulled a plate of the breakfast casserole that Gloria had sent out of the oven, “I figured you would be here, sooner or later.”
“I just got done delivering a baby. What’s new here?”
I didn’t look up, but answered, “Not much.”
Todd had just taken a drink of his coffee and he started to choke, “Don’t believe him, Doctor Naylor. Jill’s parents are coming to spend the weekend and Mikey was out playing Batman last night.”
Mom dropped her fork on the plate and glared at me, “You call that not much?”
She wasn’t done, “Where is everyone going to sleep while the Majors are here?”
Todd snickered, “The boys and I are going to go buy chastity belts for Mike and me and then go buy a bundling board for my bed. I need to make sure that Mike stays on his side of the bed while he’s sleeping with me.”
Mother wasn’t done giving us a difficult time, “Make sure that the chastity belts have provisions for going to the bathroom. You better buy one of those new fangled bundling boards that sets off bells and whistles if someone tries to climb over it. Michael, what is it that you were doing that would cause Todd to accuse you of trying to be Batman.”
After I told her what had happened at the police station, she looked at me, “Mike, promise me, that you won’t do a crazy stunt like that again.”
She looked at the clock, “I need to go home and get ready for the day. I’ll see at dinner time.”
After she had departed, I stood, “I guess, I need to go also. I need to kiss my four men goodbye.”
Todd looked miffed, “Mike, please don’t say something like that even in jest.”
I hugged Todd, “Todd, please be patient with me.”
He looked at me, “Mike, it is going to be very difficult for both of us the next two nights.”
When I walked into the office, David and Jeff were already there. David looked up from his desk, “Good morning, Mr. Naylor. There is a gentleman waiting to see you. He says that it’s very important.”
I turned to see who was waiting. It was Sheriff Patrick. “Pat, please come in. David, would you please bring us some coffee and juice?”
“They’re already on the side table with some sweet rolls, sir.”
I motioned for the Sheriff to sit down, “Pat is this about a personal matter or an official matter?”
The Sheriff took a deep breath, “Mike, it’s about a bunch of things. I’m so angry with myself that I’m about ready to resign. I should have realized what my officers were doing. They were able to keep it hidden from me because my deputy was involved in the prostitution operations. He just sidetracked all the paperwork that had anything to do with the ring.”
“You were absolutely correct when you suggested the operation was even bigger than you had imagined. Several things have happened since I saw you last night. First, I got the District Attorney out of bed and, needless to say, he was not very happy. He changed his tune after he heard the tape that Leonard and Hastings made of you talking with Aaron. When he confronted the two men, Hasting went into total meltdown and has been spilling his guts as fast as he can. It seems that he was spearheading the operation.”
“He has identified all the officers who were involved in the operation and all of the young people that they use, to service their clients. They only targeted young people between the ages of sixteen and eighteen. Most of the targets were young men, but there were a few young women that were involved too. They needed to make sure that the targets could drive to their appointments. The scary thing is that many of the young people they recruited have gone off on their own and are some of the people we see walking the streets at night.”
There was a knock on the door. I looked at the clock and it said nine o’clock, “Come in.”
David opened the door, “Sir, your nine o’clock appointment is here. Would you like me to cancel it?”
“No, I need to talk to Mr. and Mrs. Lauck today since we have a court date on Monday. I need to get some additional information so I can be ready. Do I have any openings today?”
David shook his head, “No sir, the only free time is from 11:45 until 1:00. Otherwise you’re booked for the rest of the day.”
“Thanks, David. Pat, why don’t you meet me at my house for lunch and we can discuss your problems further? The only persons who will be there are the boys and their nurse.”
Sheriff Patrick stood, “Thanks Mike, I really need to discuss this with someone I can trust. I’ll meet you at your house at 11:45. Please don’t go to any trouble for lunch, I won‘t be hungry. I‘m a nervous wreck.”
I walked Sheriff Patrick out of the office, “Pat, everything will work out; just give it time.”
I went the Laucks and shook their hands, “Why don’t you go on into the office and I’ll be there as soon as I talk to my assistants for just a second?”
“Jeff, please call the boys and their nurse and let them know that we will be having a visitor for lunch.”
Jeff nodded, “I’ll take care of that, sir.”
The rest of the morning went by quickly, and I kept passing Jeff and David notes to decipher and type. As I was leaving for lunch, I realized that I hadn’t seen Gloria all morning. Where is Mrs. Hawkins, is she is ill?”
David looked at me and giggled, “Not exactly, sir, the Hawkins were going to apply for their passports and had an appointment to talk to a travel agent about cruises. She has only called about every fifteen minutes to make sure we weren’t screwing things up too badly.”
“What are you guys going to do for lunch?”
Jeff smirked, “We packed lunches since we ain’t got paid yet. We figured we’d lock the doors and make our own dessert.”
I laughed the entire time I was driving to the house. When I walked in, I was confronted by Todd, “I thought lunchtime was to be your time with the boys. Why are you inviting someone here and who is he or she?”
The doorbell interrupted the conversation and Todd went to answer it. Todd and Pat walked into the kitchen laughing. Pat looked at me, “Mike, you didn’t tell me that the boys’ nurse was queer.”
Todd wasn‘t intimidated, “Look, Patrick Patrick, I had nothing to do with your oldest son being gay.”
I interrupted the proceedings, “I gather you two know each other?”
Pat answered, “Yeah, Todd was the presiding nurse when our three youngest sons were born. He even babysat for our boys on a number of occasions when we had to go to some functions before Tim was old enough to take care of them.”
We sat down to some nice sandwiches and iced tea that Todd had fixed. I looked at the Sheriff, “Pat, there were some other things that you wanted to talk to me about. Todd knows most of what happened last night.”
“This morning, as I was getting ready to go to work, Tim came to me and told me that he had met Aaron at the roadside rest stop. He also was accosted by one of my deputies too. Tim had the foresight to tell the Officer that he would need to check with his Dad, Sheriff Patrick, before he could agree to do anything. Tim said the officer disappeared as if he were a genie. I took Tim to the office this morning and he identified Officer Peter Hargraves. That was no big surprise, since Officers Hargraves and Office Hastings many times worked as a team.”
My question to you, Mike, is, “What legal action should I take?”
I took a deep breath, “Pat, I think that you should just let District Attorney Howard do his thing. I don’t know anything about the officers who have been involved, but I’m guessing most of them have families. It is the families who are going to suffer the most for what these jerks did. Would you please give me the names of the officers who were involved?
Pat challenged me, “Why?”
“Pat, I would like to check some things. It is just a gut feeling that I have. I don’t know District Attorney Howard and his staff very well, because I don’t usually get involved in criminal cases. I don’t know how seriously they will look at these heinous acts perpetrated by your deputies.”
“Are you saying some of the D.A.’s staff might be involved?”
“Pat, I just want to make sure that all of the people who were involved receive their just reward.”
Pat pulled out a list of everyone he knew about, so far, that were involved, and handed it to me.
I looked at the list and there were about fifteen names. Pat looked at me, “We’re going to be working a lot of overtime to cover for these people. It will take us at least six weeks at the earliest before we can get these people replaced.”
I was watching the time, “Pat, I need to go. I have a 1:15 that I really need to meet with. I have a very good feeling that you are going to come out of this fiasco smelling like roses. I will be there to support you in any way that I can. Now, I need to kiss my guys and get back to the office. Perhaps we can get together over the weekend. Jill’s parents are coming in tonight.”
I kissed the three triplets and mouthed later to Todd.
When I walked into the office, I looked at David and Jeff, “I trust you had a chance to enjoy your dessert.”
Jeff looked at me, “Mr. Naylor, we may have to quit. We haven’t even had a chance to eat lunch yet. The phone has been ringing off the hook. The newspaper and television stations have been calling to talk to you.”
“What are you guys smoking? Why would they want to talk to me?”
David looked at me as if I had lost my marbles, “Boss, District Attorney Howard had a news conference with Mayor Lynn. They emphatically stated that a prostitution ring in this city had been uncovered by one Mr. Michael Naylor who was protecting the rights of one of our local residents. Both the District Attorney and the Mayor’s office have called several time asking to talk to you.”
Our conversation was interrupted by the first scheduled client of the afternoon, a Mrs. Clinefelter. I greeted her and told her to go into the office. I went to Jeff and handed him the list of names that I had received from Sheriff Patrick, “Jeff, would you go see what information you can find out about these people who work for the sheriff’s office.”
Jeff looked at me, “Mr. Naylor, I think you need to explain to David and me what is happening, so we can respond appropriately."
“Jeff, I totally agree. But I really haven’t had any time to do so today. Why don’t you stop by tonight and I’ll explain everything we know so far?”
The afternoon was a blur and poor David had to be working his buns off since Jeff was gone. I didn’t even have time to go to the bathroom.
Finally, the last client left at 5:15. I walked into the reception area and looked at David, “Let’s call it quits for today. I’m absolutely whipped.”
Jeff entered with a gentleman who I didn’t know, but who looked familiar. “Mr. Naylor, District Attorney Howard would like to speak with you.”
I walked up to the gentleman, “It’s a pleasure to meet you, Mr. Howard. What can I do for you?”
The man shook my hand, “My name is Ray, and I just wanted to meet the man who has caused me and my staff to be working all weekend. I met Jeff here while he was doing research on the list that you gave him and it seems that there is also some evidence that some members of my staff have been involved in the operation.”
I have a very personal interest in this case, because these people caused my son to commit suicide. I plan to make sure that all those who were involved are penalized to the maximum extent allowed by law.”
“Ray, calm down. While I agree that the people involved need to be severely penalized, I also think we need to consider the innocent children and spouses who will also be affected by what these people have done. It should be done as quietly and quickly as possible, to avoid as much adverse publicity as we can.”
Jeff interrupted, “The media is downstairs waiting to talk to you when you depart the building.”
Ray looked at me, “I apologize that the Mayor and I inadvertently implicated you without your knowledge. The Mayor was trying to save face, and I guess I was so involved in a personal vendetta that I wasn’t thinking.”
I looked at everyone, “Let’s go, so I can face the music and get it over with. I’ll think of something to say while I ride down on the elevator. Please give me a couple of minutes to compose my thoughts.”
I made sure the office was secure and made my way to the lobby which was indeed totally mobbed, “Ladies and gentlemen, I’m pleased that I had the good fortune to be able to help the authorities uncover the prostitution ring that has be operating in our city, however, I will have no further comments until the authorities have had an opportunity to complete their investigation. Thank you for coming, but that is all I have to say at this time.”
The media people followed me as I walked to my car, but I refused to answer any questions. I took a circuitous route home, in case someone was trying to follow me. I sure didn’t want anyone bugging me at home.
To be continued...
Editor's Notes: It looks to me as if Mike is going to be seriously involved in the investigation surrounding this case. He is a very intelligent person and I strongly suspect that with his help, everyone who was involved in the ring will find themselves in deep trouble.
I am very glad that he didn't end up getting hurt or killed while he was playing Batman. That was not really a sensible thing to do. Having said that, however, it needed to be done by someone, and if it weren't done, then and there, it would have been a lot harder to stop what was happening, once and for all.
It has always amazed me to see how closed mouthed many police departments are when it comes to the involvement of their people in corruption. It seems that the officers will often do whatever is necessary to cover for their fellow officers.
Chicago was and is quite a hotbed of corruption in terms of their Police Department. I understand, however, that the current Police Superintendent has, in fact, cracked down considerably on some of the hanky panky that was so deeply ensconced in the system for so many years. I certainly hope he is successful in ridding the department of the rotten apples that are there.
I personally know a couple of police officers, where I live. They are both very good men. They take their jobs seriously and are certainly what I think of as "GOOD COPS". They are there because they want to protect people from the bad guys.
All too often, however, I see Police officers who are out there looking to use the power they hold in their hands to lord it over citizens and show everyone who is the boss.
It is people like that who end up getting involved in the corruption and graft that so often find their way into Police Departments. I think I am going to stop my rant right now, so I don't end up making my notes longer than the story.
I AM ready for another chapter of this story, though, so please, let's see some more!!!
