Tributes by friends and family

Ed Walker:

I have known Ed for about the last 5 years.  Initially it was by reading his excellent stories and then corresponding with him via email.  Because he was living in Nebraska, when I went back home to Nebraska for visits, I was also able to 'break bread' with him.  His strong military career as an Intelligence Officer (he flew with several Presidents as a Military Aide) was followed by a strong education career for another 20 years teaching first graders about a 1/2 block from his home.  I will miss my visits--both via phone and email--with him and I send my most sincere condolences to his son and family!  We will all miss ED.

Farewell great writer. I can only adapt the following
which is taken from ‘That’s OK’
one of E Wark’s last (unfinished?) stories.

You Can Shed Tears That He Is Gone
 ‘Anon’

"You can shed tears that he is gone
Or you can smile because he has lived.

"You can close your eyes and pray that he’ll come back
Or you can open your eyes and see all that he’s left.

"Your heart can be empty because you can’t read him
Or you can be full of the writing he shared.

"You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday
Or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday.

"You can remember his writing and only that it’s gone
Or you can cherish the memory and let it live on.

"You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back
Or you can do what he’d want: smile, open your eyes, love and go on.

I miss my friend and sounding board Ed.  His stories got me through my bad days of Chemotherapy.  His emails provided me support and comfort.  He always had a good word and a prayer for me.   He was a great person and a real friend.  His stories always had meaning to them and most of the time it was “Family is the Best”.   I miss being able to talk to him and to hear his voice.  I have not been able to remove his number from my phone or his E-Mail address from my computer.  I catch myself dialing his number to tell him something and realize he is no longer here.  I know Ed is watching over us now and will help as he can.  I just wish more people knew the true Ed.  I kept telling him he should write about his time in the Service but he said no one would like to hear about that.  His life was here to help others and that is what Ed would do.  I pray that his family keeps his love he had for them in their hearts as he loved them dearly.

I just had to write and tell you how wonderful a person we lost, and hope you will find someone as good as Ed to replace him.  Thank you for listening.  Jim F...

'So long' for now, but never 'Good-bye.'
