Chapter 10

After three days of having been hooked up to their 'milking machines', and after having been continually pumped, electro prodded, needle pricked, bled, force fed, anally pumped and irrigated, the fourteen boys of Ward D thought they would be facing welcome relief and a nice change once they were removed from their milking pods and moved to the exam gurneys in their stalls.

Thomas Crotchet informed the boys, "Every three days we take you off the 'expro' machines for a partial day of exams, exercise, and recreation."

None of the options - exams, exercise, and recreation - however proved to be palliatives for the gurneyed boys of Ward D. The guinea pig boys in Ward D just wanted to be free, go home, and get back to the life they once knew.

Thomas began by reminding the boys, once again, that they were under constant surveillance and that any defiant behavior or protestation concerning their treatment could end up as a negative mark on their servitude record, and any such negative remarks could thus result in extended sentences of indenturement.

Thomas also made a point of reminding the boys in Ward D of the level of control the program had over them. For example, should a boy in the experiments lab program refuse to swallow what he was being ordered to ingest by an orderly, and resisted force feeding, the orderly would then summon an overseer and a unit nurse, explain to them the problem, and the nurse, at the discretion of the overseer, would then simply reach under the boy's high chair and insert an electro probe up the problem boy's anus as an inducement towards proper behavior.

Once a boy was anally plugged and electro-prodded, most boys immediately swallowed, within an instant, almost any substance that they had previously refused to ingest.

Thomas then, once again, reminded the boys of the experiments program's grand benevolence; a negative mark would be entered on a boy's servitude record only if a boy refused to follow orders after an 'inducement procedure' had been administered.

Jacob Bartlett, director of Missouri's Jackson County Social Services Agency, took a quick sip of Scotch before he invited into his office Thomas Crotchet, head of servitor personnel at Social Services; Simon Kettlestick, the new director of the Kansas City Social Services Research Agency; and a newly employed orderly at Social Services, Benjamin Simms.

"The reason I've invited you three employees here is because of what has been going on in Ward D: the technicians and physicians are telling me that they are getting nothing but a total lack of respect from the lab rats! The boys in the experiments program in Ward D are putting up a super fuss with every little request, freely insult the lab personnel, and are having their parents and their parents' lawyers contact the state for the mildest slights."

"While I don't know this for a fact, it appears that the trouble makers are led by Terrence Finley and Rex Dalton!"

"As you all know, we can't have our experiments program compromised by a bunch of low-income, trouble making, losers, and their family and friends. Such sabotaging of our endeavors has gone way beyond the pale!"

"So that is the reason I shall soon be having Joshua Millikin, one of the servitors in Ward D, brought here into my office so we can give all the boys in Ward D a demonstration of what they can expect from us should they ever step out of line and decide to start making trouble. For what is about to happen to him here in this office should send a clear message to him and to all of the boys in Ward D of what they can expect should they decide to engage in troublemaking."

Thomas Crotchet cautiously interrupted with a raised hand and asked, "Sir, Mr. Bartlett, I don't know what-you are proposing, but why exactly has Benjamin Simms been invited here? He has only just begun his employ here as an orderly two days ago?"

Mr. Bartlett was annoyed, "Are you questioning my judgment, Mr. Crotchet?"

"No sir, I am only thinking that what you have just proposed is something that should have been discussed with the company directors and senior employees of Social Services beforehand."

Mr. Bartlett just shook his head in sarcasm, "Well maybe Mr. Crotchet I just may have a reason for inviting Benjamin here; a reason that does not concern you, and should be none of your business!"

Thomas was embarrassed, and Mr. Bartlett's alcohol-induced short fuse induced him to continue his rant,

"Let me tell you something, 'Crotch Happy' Crotchet! I know something about you that you may not want revealed!"

With the room stunned into silence by what sounded like threatening remarks, Mr. Bartlett suddenly realized that he had probably said something he shouldn't have.

In an attempt to collect and calm himself down Mr. Bartlett went back to the thing that most likely caused him to reveal too much in the first place, his bottle of scotch.

The assembled watched in silence as Mr. Bartlett poured himself some more scotch, drank it, ran a napkin over his lips, and then continued his comments in a forced effort to appear sober, "Listen everyone, all that I want from all of you here in this room is that we are all on the same page. I can't reveal, right now, why I have invited Benjamin here for this little special event."

"But Thomas, please forgive me for getting a little bit snippy. All that I want for all of us is that we remain strong as a team. I just want us all to be happy. And to be happy we all have to work together."

The room was silent as Mr. Bartlett got on the phone and contacted ward nurse Susan Costen, "Susan, we're ready for Joshua Milliken now."

Mr. Bartlett hung up the phone and gave a nod to Simon Kettlestick, "Simon, would you please remove your dress jacket, tie, and shirt."

In an instant the eyes and mouths of Simon, Thomas, and Benjamin, opened wide in stunned disbelief.

Simon let out a bewildered, "Sir?"

"You heard me Mr. Kettlestick, remove your jacket, tie, and shirt, now! Let's just see if you are able to follow orders."

Simon and Thomas exchanged bewildered looks.

As Simon gazed at the floor wondering what was going on, Mr. Bartlett addressed the room, "I intend to find out just how well our so-called 'senior staff' is able and willing to follow orders."

Simon, a bright professional, spoke with polite assertion, "Sir, this is not a normal professional request."

Bartlett smiled, "It may not be, but you are one of the brightest young hotshots in the business, and you have already signaled to me your interest in becoming the 'number two' guy here at Missouri's Jackson County Social Services Agency. So do what you're told and just maybe I can make your dreams come true. Do you understand, 'Mr. fancy boy'?"

Aware that Mr. Bartlett had been drinking on the job, along with a few other bits of strange behavior, Thomas felt a need to voice his concern, "Sir, I think perhaps you may regret what you just requested of Simon. Please sir, perhaps you've had a bit too much to drink!"

Mr. Bartlett slowly raised his posture as if rising to victory, "Listen, you two! Don't think I don't know of your secret sins here at Social Services!"

Simon and Thomas froze as Mr. Bartlett continued, "Now I'm not going to say in front of anyone here what I happen to know about the both of you. I'm too nice a guy for that, but I do expect total and committed obedience from my senior staff! So if you care about your futures, you will follow the wise path, the path that I dish out: the path of total obedience!"

Looking to the freshly hired orderly, Benjamin Simms, Mr. Bartlett continued, "Nor am I going to say out loud what I know about you, Mr. Benjamin Simms, so don't go thinking that you are anyone special in this room. I happen to know some of the things you have failed to reveal about yourself during your interviews!"

Benjamin stammered, "But if you knew about them when you hired me that must have meant you considered them to be minor infractions."

"Nope, sorry Mr. Simms, but I only found out about them two days ago."

Benjamin's heart sank. He had been unable to find a job in the past for reasons of which Mr. Bartlett was obviously now aware.

Mr. Bartlett continued, "My recent discovery about Mr. Simms is the, reason, gentlemen, I have gathered all of you here today; because I now realized that a good part of my staff are professional perverts."

Mr. Bartlett wandered back to his scotch desk, took another sip, and resumed, "So to state the matter as simply as I can, I expect obedience from all of you if you want to keep your jobs and get the promotions you all thought you had in the palms of your hands!"

As Thomas, Simon, and Benjamin, stood unbelieving of the situation at hand, and quickly pondered the status of their positions, there was a knock on the door.

Mr. Bartlett gave a quick signal to Simon Kettlestick, who had just started to remove his tie, to stop him from doing so.

Mr. Bartlett called out asking who was knocking at the door, and the head evening nurse of Ward D, Susan Costen, identified herself and explained that she was bringing in Joshua Milliken from Ward D as he had ordered.

Mr. Bartlett beeped the door open, and nurse Susan Costen entered guiding a very scared looking little Joshua Milliken, the youngest of the fourteen boys from Ward D.

Mr. Bartlett gave a nod to Nurse Costen to proceed.

Nurse Costen opened her medical bag, took out a large syringe, loaded it, and approached the terrified Joshua while holding the syringe with its long needle in an upright position, "Okay little fella, I need you to let down the back of your scrubs so I can inject you. This is on Mr. Bartlett's orders, and it is something that will make you feel really good."

Joshua, no dummy, was quick to question, "What is that? Why are you going to give me an injection in this office?"

Thomas knew the importance of being reassuring to servitors in such a situation, "Don't be afraid, Joshua, I'm sure Mr. Bartlett just ordered a mild sedative to help ease your nerves for whatever he needs you for. It won't hurt, I assure you."

Joshua, although reluctant, was swayed by Thomas' gentle words, pulled down the rear of his scrubs and bent over.

Once nurse Costen had delivered the injection, she looked to Mr. Bartlett, "Sir, I can't work tomorrow night. My brother is having some problems and needs me to help out, so I need to be with him tomorrow evening."

Mr. Bartlett acknowledged her request and asked the assembled staff if anyone of them would be willing to take over her nighttime shift duties on the following evening.

Thomas was swift to raise his hand, "Sir, Mr. Bartlett, I would be happy to fill in for nurse Costen's duties tomorrow."

Mr. Bartlett, in a drunkenly gracious mood, thanked Thomas for his offer, and wished nurse Costen the best of luck with whatever she and her brother were going through.

Once nurse Costen had exited, Mr. Bartlett ordered Simon to continue stripping, and ordered Thomas and Benjamin to remove little Joshua Millikin's scrubs.

To be continued...
