(Author's note. This story re-introduces Simon Kettlestick, a character from a story I wrote in 2005, a precocious though arrogant kid who was promoted to the rank of a senior servitor handler at the record young age of 17. So I decided to bring Simon back, now 32 years old and a seasoned professional overseer with over 15 years experience. A link is included at the end of this posting to Chapter 7 of my story, 'Boys Like You', the chapter in which Simon made his original appearance.)

Chapter 6

The two scrub boys at the 'experiments facility' of the Jackson County Social Services Human Subject Research Department, Amoro and Paulus, who gave Rex and Terrence their intake indoctrination baths, enemas, and shaves, and generally treated slaves like shit, were passed in the hallway by an elegantly dressed and well groomed 32-year old male wearing a badge indicating that he was a senior director of the facility.

The man with the badge nodded to the two scrub-clad boys, introduced himself as Simon Kettlestick and asked their names. Once the orderlies had responded, the badge man nodded, declared it was "Good to meet you", and passed on his way.

When once out of earshot of Mr. Kettlestick, Amoro whispered to Paulus, "Who in the hell is that guy? What an arrogant twerp!"

***

The first days of Rex and Terrence's indenturement in the Jackson County Social Services Human Subject Research Department consisted of rounds of exams, physical and mental, covering a range of topics as diverse as the rate of their hair and nail growth to their stress management levels.

On the sixth day of their indenturement Rex and Terrence were collected by Thomas Crotchet, their chief handler and disciplinarian, and taken to a room where there were gathered twelve other servitors.

On the stage, at the front of the room, along with the relevant facility governors and technicians, were the two orderlies, Amoro and Paulus, who Rex and Terrence remembered as the jerks who gave them their initial processing treatment.

But also on the stage, and alarming to several of the fourteen boys in the program, was Mr. Simon Kettlestick, a guy who was already something of a celebrity in not only servitor control circles, but also to the general public, for he was ordained as a precocious wonder kid who had achieved an advanced servitor's handler's degree at the age of 17.

Now, 15 years later, at the age of 32, Simon came across as one with an effusively charming and caring personality.

Thomas addressed the fourteen boys; "You fourteen boys have been selected to participate in an exciting research project designed to explore the human body's endocrine system more thoroughly than ever before, using the latest technology and medications in order to understand more fully how controlled metabolism rates affect sexual function."

"Several of you boys are newly indentured, and several of you have just finished up service in other experiments. In just a little while we will be taking you boys to Ward D where you will be housed for the next four years as you participate in this exciting and historic research project."

"Today will be basically a 'meet and greet' session with everyone gathered here on the stage, our team of physicians, biologists, chemists, lab technicians, nurses, and orderlies, who will be working on you in Ward D."

"After your visit here the orderlies will be prepping you for you're your stay in Ward D, but for now the lab team will be doing nothing more than comparing names to faces as they attempt to get to know you on a personal level as they review the results of your recent exams."

"I will continue to be your chief personnel officer and overseer, in Ward D, and I remain your contact person for any issues that you feel need to be addressed. Please feel free to come to me at any time. And please know that the technical staff you see gathered here on stage simply do not have the time or authority to deal with any personal issues which may arise, so please come to me and only me with any questions or concerns you may encounter with your life in Ward D."

Thomas paused, nodded to Simon Kettlestick, and gave a wide smile as he looked over the fourteen indentured boys standing in front of the stage. "Now it is my great pleasure to introduce you to a very special person. Standing next to me is Mr. Simon Kettlestick, the new director of the Kansas City Social Services Research Agency!"

Everyone on stage started applauding, which made some of the lab rats wonder if they should also be applauding.

Thomas was beaming as he continued, "Simon, as some of you boys doubtless already know, is something of a legend in the field of servitor control. By the age of 17 he was already a superstar overseer!"

As Simon gave a wide smile, Thomas continued, "Anyway, I'm probably embarrassing Mr. Kettlestick, so let me just shut up so we can all hear a few words from our new Research Agency Director."

Simon, still retaining most of the youthful charm, beauty, and exuberance, which, as a youth, won him over in the eyes of the public, was giving some of the older overseers and servitor handlers in the room moderate hardons just by standing so near to a guy who was an idol to them in their younger days.

Simon Kettlestick, smiling and looking like the perfect son every mom dreamt of having, began to speak with a calming voice, "What a privilege it is for me to be here! Some of you may already know of me, but most of you likely have no idea who I am. But my past is not important. What is important to me are you boys standing before me!"

"The thing I want you all to know is that I am here to do everything I can do in order to both make you boys as happy as possible in your service here as indentees of the state, and to help ensure that the experimentation process that is about to take place in Ward D is a super success. I will do whatever it takes. I want the public, the medical staff, the citizens, and, most of all, you fourteen servitors, to be assured that I will do whatever it takes to make sure that we are all a success in our endeavors!"

Simon then directed a more intense gaze on the fourteen servitors, "You boys are admirable because you are sacrificing yourselves for the betterment of all humanity. Now, I don't mean 'sacrificing' yourselves in the old use of the word, where sacrificing meant putting your life on the line. No! What I mean is that you will be sacrificing perhaps a small part of your dignity, because I'll be honest with you; an awful lot of people will be examining you - prodding and poking at you in the days, months, and years, ahead. You will be hooked up to strange looking machines. You will be forced to do various exercises, and get into embarrassing positions."

"And as a lab that is funded in parts by the county, state, and federal governments, there will be many inspectors and personnel agents from these various government departments visiting, reviewing, and inspecting, us on a regular basis. There will be a lot of people needing to come through who are not in the medical experimental community. So some of you may on occasion find your dignity compromised."

"But your lives will never be put in harm's way. You will never face any life-threatening danger while housed in Ward D!"

Simon blew out a breath, and pointed his arm at a table on the far corner of the room, "Boys, over there on the table are a bunch of goodies I have ordered for you to enjoy at your leisure throughout this 'meet and greet' session. But I must warn you, the table is loaded with a lot of junk food goodies, things you will not be getting while you are housed in Ward D. So just relax, enjoy yourselves, and enjoy the snacks!"

All fourteen boys, at the mention of all the snacks they could eat, felt a momentary flood of relief; not only because of the snacks, but because Mr. Simon Kettlestick seemed like a really nice guy.

As Rex and Terrence stood in line to hit the goodies table, a servitor from Ward D, Steve Schmals, who overheard Rex tell Terrence that he was feeling better about things now that Simon Kettlestick was the new director of research operations at the facility, touched Rex on the shoulder, and whispered a warning, "I heard what you said to your pal. I want to warn you, don't trust Simon Kettlestick. He is one sick bastard!"

To be continued...
